30.41% Supernatural: The Great Hunter System / Chapter 56: Ward Of Obviation

Capítulo 56: Ward Of Obviation

While Sam and Dean do their usual work finding a monster or a monster's nest, Irwin had instructed Detective Sloan and the doctors to keep Ansem heavily sedated and, at no point in time, have any person enter his room without any of the federal agents in sight.

Of course, that was not the only measure they've taken to ensure his protection. Sam and Dean created multiple Devil's Trap in every corner of the room, while Irwin tested his first system-gained spell on the room.

The Ward of Obviation.

Until now, Irwin had nary the opportunity to engrave sigils, but, fortunately, Ansem's dangerous powers were the perfect excuse to at least get a feel for the spell. After all, he would be using the spell once the garden park in Lisbon Valley was finished in its renovations.

Thankfully, he had the mind to gather two sets of ingredients used for the spell. But, first, he needed to review the spell.

▪︎Ward Of Obviation▪︎

Level: 01

Type: Automatic

Classification: Sigil; Ritual; Pagan

Invocation: N mchrz l hrtz hzs nkh mfvlshm… My yytn vhrvch tnchh tchm… H'zv lhchns lrtznv vl'mvd vfn chvrvn / Fr lfr, vk lvk… F dm l yrh, f dm l ychvl lshmv, f dm l ychvl lg's… Sn ltzl h'vlm lh'v l d'sm shl rvm

Components: A piece of the world's shadow (Moon rock), pure rock salt, dried Venus flytrap leaves, caster's blood, black cat's skull, mortar and pestle seasoned with Holy Oil

Procedure:

(1) Season the mortar with fifty (50) grams of pure rock salt until salt is ground into sand.

(2) Add five (5) dried Venus flytrap leaves and one (1) black cat's skull, grind until turned into dust.

(3) While chanting the invocation, add in one (1) gram of Moon rock. The invocation will turn the rock brittle enough to turn to dust.

(4) Once all ingredients are ground to powder, draw ten (10) milliliters of fresh blood from the caster and drip until the solution turns into malleable paste.

(5) Inscribe the recommended number of sigils while chanting the second part of the invocation.

Effect #1: Caster can currently engrave four (4) sigils per ritual creation. Each sigil can ward up to ten (10) meter radius. If any sigil is within each other's radius, it will link up and combine its radii to that of the sum of all linked sigils. Adding more than the prescribed ingredients will not create more sigils.

Effect # 2: The sigils can be activated by a thought from the caster. Before activating the sigils, the caster could imprint up to three (3) individuals that would exclude them from the sigils' effects.

Once activated, the sigils will act as one ward that would telepathically release a subtle mental command into any intruders that are within the ward's range. The command will dissuade any intruders from entering or moving closer to the center of the ward's radius. The intruders, instead, will either turn back or circumnavigate around the ward's radius. The effect will be subtle enough not to be regarded as an active spell.

The effectiveness of the spell is dependent on its level, number of linked sigils, and actively supplied magical power.

■■

Unlike that of his previous spells, the Ward of Obviation was, quite frankly, 'detailed as fuck'. As expected of the first spell he had bought and learned.

When he had first learned of the ingredients for creating the ward, Irwin thought that it was worthy of being a trade of an extremely powerful werewolf. Just the acquisition of the moon rocks alone costs quite a fuss in their contacts.

It took two weeks before Archibald's 'friend' in NASA's upper management could steal five grams of moon rock, and the bastard had the balls to sell it to them at the whooping price of $1,000,000 per gram.

If not for Archibald adding another 30 million to his investments and his winning bet in the next few months, Irwin would have likely stolen the rocks from the 'friend' or, most probably, teleported to the moon and grabbed a few boulders.

"I probably should, if I only have five chances at this shit." Irwin shook his head, limbering up for the spell-casting ahead.

Without further ado, he pulled out the mortar and pestle out of the briefcase and began the ritual. He ground the salt for a minute or so before placing the leaves and cat's skull, which he crushed and scraped against the smooth stone.

Next came the precious moon rock. Irwin gently placed it atop the mountain of green and black sand, before proceeding with the incantation. "N mchrz l hrtz hzs nkh mfvlshm… "

The grooves on the mortar glowed dim purple as the moon rock was crushed alongside the other ground ingredients. Following the next step, Irwin, still chanting the invocation, took out his Iridium knife and sliced his wrist.

"My yytn vhrvch tnchh tchm…"

Blood dripped fluently, nearly filling the mortar, before he patched it up with a quick first-aid bandage. He returned to his spell soon after, finishing it with a flourish of purple illumination.

"H'zv lhchns lrtznv vl'mvd vfn chvrvn."

Irwin felt a sudden drop in his body, not in the physical sense, however. It was as if a leech of indeterminate origin had sucked off a vital piece of his essence as his magical power lowered until it nearly dried up. He had felt like this before when he was first testing out Brimstone Blow.

Thankfully, he was more than prepared for such an occasion. He took out a Manna Replenishing Salve, worth 20 credits, and poured it into his mouth.

Irwin felt like a newborn baby as soon as that potion hit his stomach, refreshing his very essence and his magical power before a sudden extreme exhaustion hit him like a freight train. Unfortunately, the potion had a side effect of consuming his stamina, much like Paracelsus' Alchemical Concoction.

But he pushed through and began engraving the four walls of the room with sigils that were inscribed in his brain the moment he learned about the spell. What was peculiar was that he could never seem to forget it. Even if he actively did, the moment he needed it, the sigils' diagram would always resurface in his memories.

"Fr lfr, vk lvk… F dm l yrh, f dm l ychvl lshmv, f dm l ychvl lg's…"

With each sigil he created, Irwin would place a piece of hair from Dean, Sam, and Andrew, so that the warding would not include them from its effects.

Thankfully, the creation of the sigils did not take too long, his magik working through his hands as his fingertips, stained by the paste, dug a shallow mark on the walls.

"Sn ltzl h'vlm lh'v l d'sm shl rvm…"

Five minutes later, four large sigils scrawled into the alabaster white walls emitted a dim purple light. The light illuminated the room as its barely visible tentacles formed a sphere in the middle of the room, linking up the sigils and creating the Ward of Obviation.

He stretched his sore muscles as he picked up his phone and called Sam to check their progress.

"Hello?" Sam answered on the first ring. "Yeah, it's Richard."

"How's it going over at your side?" He asked, unceremoniously crashing down the couch.

"Well, Dean found one about an hour ago." Irwin could hear Sam's frustration through the call. "If he didn't get waylaid by some women."

"-londe twins in yoga pants!"

"Yeah, yeah." Sam scoffed at his brother's reason.

"As much as I adore your banter, our mission is more important." Irwin admonished with a chuckle. "Do you have it?"

"Bobby sent it through, so it'll take a few hours," Sam gave a weary sigh. "But, yeah, we have the blood."
