Capítulo 13: Education [5]

Kito stared with mouth agape at the scene before him. His opponent was pouring blood out of a fist sized hole in his gut, and yet talking so nonchalantly. When he saw the man's eyes he froze. An instinctive terror from his very soul told him that he would not survive if he did not flee immediately.

Kito gulped and pushed down that terror. Before he could retort, he blinked. Why was Palin's head in the man's left hand? When did that happen? Where.. where is the rest of Palin?

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Hrm? It seems there is an extra three cervical vertebrae in this one. How fascinating." A nonchalant voice awoke Kito from his stupor.

"I need more research material." Sage's eyes turned to Kito.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The fiery madness burning in them made Kito's every instinct scream to run away, but he stood his ground. A man of Conquest didn't retreat. The man before him seemed to cast a shadow like the entire mountain range, but he stood his ground. Only if he held his enemy at bay could his Captain land a lethal blow. But hadn't he already done so?

While Kito's mind was racing, the man before him blurred. Kito summoned all his skill and courage to bring his sword down a sweeping blow aiming to split his opponent in half. He felt his sword connect and jolted in pain simultaneously.

Kito widened his eyes. His sword had been 'blocked' by the man's left arm, and the man's left arm was mangled beyond repair. Bones were jutting out in the wrist and upper arm, with his hand split clean down the middle. Yet, the man's face didn't even twitch as he pulled back his right hand violently.

Kito vomited blood immediately. He looked to see the man's right hand had 2 fingers broken back to the palm, while the thumb and other 2 fingers were holding a torn piece of meat that kept quivering…

The last thought Kito had in this world was 'is that…part of my heart?'

"Hrm, it seems they have an extra aortic rib."

Sage felt regret he didn't get the entire heart, but he could always try again. Wisdom is built on a mountain of experience after all. And no one had more experience than him killing.

It is why he was known as the Sage of death. He destroyed more lives than he could count. But he made sure that each death was valuable. He learned how to more efficiently destroy lives.

"It seems that this experiment is about to end. I shouldn't be too dissatisfied, a trial run is always necessary before clinicals get approved."

If one closed their eyes they would think they were listening to a calm doctor discussing a pharmaceutical trial. But the mania in the burning eyes of the man standing on the mountainside would tell a much different story.

An arrow peeled by Sage's scalp, but he did not move even as it furrowed his flesh atop his skull and ripped the skins off his head. Blood cascaded down his face once more as he opened his mouth into a rictus grin.

"It seems the final exam is here. I hope you are prepared as I am very enthusiastic about education."

Baofa was terrified. When he saw the 'ears' of the 'Huli' peeled off he thought he had a critical shot. When a mane of black hair glistening red with blood came into his view he was stunned. He realized that this…thing… was no Huli.

He had wondered why it hadn't used a single Glamour. It had its weapon growing out of its body, and it seemed to have changed from a skillful warrior into an inexorable…Death…God?

"Shi..shi..shi..shinigami?!?" Baofa croaked. His throat dry as the last of his saliva fled out his mouth in prayer for a denial of his thoughts.

"Oh? You know me after all? Well, I suppose that a man's wisdom spreads from the mountain tops while his folly is hidden in the valley below."

The calm voice edged with madness confirmed Baofa's worst fears. He ran. If he could just get out of the valley, if he could just get away from the Holy Ground that he Profaned…maybe the Death God would spare him. Using all of his Gene energy to reinforce his legs, he sprinted as fast as he could.

"Tsk. Do not speak to fools, for they will scorn your prudent words." Sage grumbled to himself as he calmly reached his hand up into his broken left shoulder and grabbed his own Humerus. With a sharp tug he ripped out the entire bone. He didn't blink as he threw the bone with the force of a cannon.

It screamed through the air before piercing into the back of Baofa's skull and smashing him facefirst against a tree.

"Class is over." Said Sage. He collapsed into a heap of viscera and blood on the ground.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Luna's heart was pounding out of her chest. She had felt hope when a fellow Huli seemed to sweep to her rescue, but as he was pressured, she began to realize that despite how skillful he was he just couldn't keep up with so many foes.

Luna's grief had spiraled out of control when the unknown Huli was struck with a sneaky arrow the size of a spear. She thought he was dead, and she would join him without ever knowing his name. Then, everything changed.

When he stood back up, the impression she had was that this man…was the incarnation of death. His brutal dispatch of the rest of the Ipili would make the boldest warrior weak in the knees, and then he just calmly acknowledged his job was done and he…collapsed?

She rushed over to him and was terrified of what she saw. There was no saving him. She didn't know if she should do a Huli funerary right since he wasn't a Huli, but she didn't know what he was. Up close she realized he had small round ears and didn't seem to have a tail. The only races like this were the Enga and Lunga, but he didn't have the ugly skin of a Lunga or the feathers of an Enga.

Luna suddenly heard a quiet little sound. <Help him!> Stunned, she looked around for the voice but couldn't see anything. It sounded like…it came from the man in front of her? So why was it feminine?

<Yes you dolt, here! Get their cores and give them to him, quickly!>

Luna shook out of her stupor and rushed around to grab the cores of the fallen Ipili. If she could use their core energy to heal, maybe he could too. It seemed like a distant hope but she had to try. She would worry about who that voice was later.

"What do I do?" She asked hesitantly. He had no tail to wrap the cores in, and he was unconscious so he couldn't swallow them like an Ipili would do.

<Just shove them in a hole. He's got plenty right now. This Noona will take care of the rest.>
