  Rot.

And lots of it.

Rotten smell.

Rotten flesh-

Rotten world.

"This smell is driving me nuts…" Al said, stepping out of the carriage.

The pungent odor of rancid meat and oil irritated his nostrils, sending down a nerve signal of utter stenchy-ness. 

Nothing much in sight for kilometers.

Nothing other than decaying stuff beneath their feet that was.

Muddy land. Not with water but with blood and gut juice and maybe pus.

Rotten gut juice.

Bones here, bowels there- meat and rot everywhere.

Which did make Al wonder- "Where in the world is all this even coming from?"

Clear sky, barely any clouds, and a big moon. Quite comfortable but also slightly freezing.
