After changing into the mage set armor Cyrus felt the immense magic boost the armor provided. Seeing Onyxia about to launch a breath attack toward the girls as they dispatched the whelps and dragonkin she was summoning, Cyrus charged a Frostfire bolt in one hand and a Lava Burst in the other aiming it directly for her mouth.
Timing his attack just right he launched it just as Onyxia's head moved back to launch the fire breath Cyrus launched his own.
The Frostfire ball and Lava Burst combined halfway to its target reacting violently with one another threatening a massive explosion.
Cyrus used every once of concentration to keep both spells active and hoped he could combine the two attacks. Unlike melee attacks, spells were much harder to combine and took massive amounts of mana.
Just as Onyxia's attack formed just in front of her face the Frostlava Bolt slammed into, the resulting explosion engulfed the whole cave.
The concussion threw the cave into chaos, Alduin was launched into another opening in the cave wall while the girls were thrown to the other end of the cave.
Alexstrasza was the only one not affected by the force of the explosion and quickly put up a large barrier above them to avoid the coming fire that followed.
Onyxia was dazed by the attack, her brain was slammed against her skull multiple times due to the concussive force then by the expanding fire ball right after causing her to fall from the air.
"Are you trying to kill us all you bloody oaf!" Jaina yelled in anger at Cyrus after she quickly got ready to continue the fight.
Giving a smile, which was barely visible thru the opening in the hood and a shrug he too got ready to really kick it into high gear.
'I wonder how mad she would be if she knew that that was the first time I attempted that? Definitely something I need to explore more, I thought that since I could easily mix Paladin and Warrior attacks along with Rogue that I could do the same with spells just as easy but guess not. Well at least I found something to work on once we get back.' Cyrus thought to himself as he equipped his Paladin armor and activated his paladin boosters.
'Oh shit, why are we even fighting her to the death? Don't we just need to escape the cave with Alduin and it should end the scenario?' Cyrus thought to himself as he gave himself a mental kick in the arse.
"Marcella! Focus on the kid! Kite them towards the kid so one of the others can grab him, we just need to get out of the cave I think and if not at least I won't have to restrain the power of my attacks." Cyrus yelled and after equipping Forgestorm, one of his strongest one handed maces, as well as his Calamitys Herold shield he charged at the downed dragon.
Upon arriving he stepped into his swing to give as much power as he could to the mace hoping to keep her distracted to give time to locate Alduin.
His mace struck true and a few scales on Onyxia's neck cracked, the pain bringing her back to her senses. Just as she was going to retaliate the magic of the mace activated creating an explosion on the impacted area, completely destroying the scales on her neck causing her blood to begin seeping out of the area.
Without missing a step Cyrus spun on his heal making use of the warriors whirlwind attack to add more momentum to his next attack as well as using the shield as a counter balance to make sure the mace hit solidly.
Impacting the softer scales on the bottom of the neck this time the mace broke thru the skin causing dragon blood to gush out all over Cyrus.
Onyxia let out a roar of pain and anger and began to look for an escape route to get away so she could heal herself.
She had just barely been able to recover from her battle with the King and his men at Stormwind, which was why she didn't go looking for Alduin as soon as he ran to hide.
She was going to let him hide for a few days and once she regained her strength she would use him as a hostage when the warriors came to rescue him. By then she would've been in top shape and would have the advantage within her own territory.
Judging her next move Cyrus quickly used Blink to launch into the air just behind Onyxia's head where she couldn't see, while leaving a mirror image to distract her.
Using his Judgement of Light he hit the back of her skull which cause a loud crunch followed by an explosion due to Forgestorm procing its attack.
Onyxia crashed to the floor once again, her impact shaking the cave causing stalagmites to fall from the ceiling.
"Didn't Ulther teach you restraint! You have allies around you are endangering!" Jaina shouted at Cyrus as she dodged a large spike which landed atop a few dragon whelps crushing them in the process.
Quickly surveying the others he noticed many broken rocks scattered across the ground along with mangled bodies of whelps and Dragonkin.
"Hey, what else..." Just as he wanted to retort he was hit hard from behind by Onyxia's tail sending him flying.
Hitting the ground hard and at an angle his shield arm was dislocated as he had tried to use it to cushion his fall.
Feeling his bones and muscles mending back in place he slowly got to his feet.
"Arthas are you ok?" Jaina ran over after using an Arcane Blast which exploded her target into a mass of liquid blood.
"Are you trying to get me killed or what? Every..." mid sentence he felt a threat coming straight for them so he quickly decided to ignore her and shoved her out of the way while activating Divine Protection.
Not long after raising his shield did it get impacted by another tail swipe, causing him to slide to the opposing side leaving a deep rut in the ground as Cyrus held his ground.
Onyxia, who was now enraged due to the amount of damage she took in a short time, unleashed a large fire breath at Cyrus to try to hinder him from stopping her escape.
Feeling the hot rush of air signalling to Cyrus what was coming, he used Fire Ward and leaped forward directly into the flame to ensure the fire would be split enough to pass by Jaina so she wouldn't be hit.
His shield and leg armor became heated to an uncomfortable level. Knowing he could only take two more breaths before his armor became too hot to wear, he continued to charge forward thru the fire.
"We have him! Margaery is healing him now." Cyrus heard Daenerys muffled shout over the roaring flames that surrounded him.
Knowing he had but a few seconds left of his Divine Protection, Cyrus blinked behind Onyxia once again and equipped Shadowmourne and sliced a big gash into Onyxia's left wing.
Signaling the girls to leave without him, each shaking their head denying his request.
Daenerys and Marcella both began to launch their own attacks onto Onyxia as she roared in pain.
Fear began to creep into Onyxia's mind as her rage calmed due to the pain and the realization her biggest asset of flying was now gone.
Just as she was about to use her magic to summon another batch of whelps to distract the group a Shadowbolt and a series of Arcane Missles slammed into her open wounds causing the magic circle below her to shake and shatter.
Her magic backfired and engulfed her throwing her massive body against the cave wall causing even more damage to her cave system.
Large rocks began to fall from the ceiling and the cave rumbled causing what felt like an Earthquake.
"Go Now! It's going to collapse!" Cyrus yelled as load as he could over the noise of the cave slowly giving way.
This time the girls didn't argue and quickly made their way to the exit only to see that it had been blocked already.
Before they could notify Cyrus, Jaina had opened a portal back to Theramore.
"Come quickly. We don't have much time." Jaina motioned them to enter.
Seeing no other way they ran toward the portal, dodging falling debris as they moved.
Jaina seeing a large slab falling towards the group quick cast Slow Time on the slab giving the girls time to make it out from under it before she released the spell. The toll drained much of her mana due to the size and weight of it.
Looking for signs of Arthas, she began to frantically search after not being able to see him at a glance.
Then she saw him leaping with his large two handed axe over his head towards Onyxia. Before she could shout she was grabbed and pulled into the portal, the image of Arthas cleaving thru Onyxia neck gave was to a bright light taking her vision away causing her to shut her eyes.
Then the sounds of men shouting and metal boots marching in unison could be heard.
"Quick get the healers! Make sure they bring potions and bandages." A female voice was heard over the ruckus.
"Lady Jaina are you ok? What the hell happened?" Sergeant Amelyn asked as she quickly came to Jaina's aid.
Looking down and seeing splotches of blood on her robes, Jaina knew she had overused her magic a bit slowing down that slab.
Ignoring the question she began looking around for the others. Finally seeing the three women with little Alduin in Margaery's arms her eyes began to water remembering Arthas was still in the cave. Her portal no longer there due to being destroyed by the falling rocks.
"No, this is wrong. This is all wrong." Jaina mumbled to herself. Suddenly images began to flash within her mind of her life after Arthas left for Northrend. The wars she participated in, the short love affairs she had after finding out what became of Arthas after he took Frostmourne to try to save his people. Even her own journey into the Citadel in Icecrown and meeting the Lich King who had taken Arthas' soul and battling him in an attempt to free Arthas.
The memories of her and Arthas last night together before he left. It all came flooding back all at once. Her head pounding from all the information flooding back like a raging tidal wave, but that wasn't what hurt her the most. The emotional turmoil of having lost the man she loved, not once but twice overtook the physical pain and her tears she was desperate to hold back in front of others began to flow.
Marcella and Daenerys after checking Alduins condition finally took notice of Jaina and at how beautiful she was, but then noticed she was staring at where the portal used too be while tears streamed down her face.
"Don't worry, I'm sure he's ok. He enjoys putting on a show. I bet he's purposely taking his time so that when he shows up everyone would cheer." Daenerys said comfortingly as she approached Jaina and placed a hand on her shoulder.
"That does sounds like something Arthas would do." Jaina said as she quickly wiped the tears from her face with a smile.
"For sure, plus he still has Alex with him so even if he is hurt she'll bring him back." Marcella chimed in.
"Alex?" Then Jaina remembered the other woman she saw when she entered the cave and had come upon the group fighting.
She couldn't see the other very well but she did feel a massive amount of power coming from her and a vague sense of familiarity to her aura.
At the time she had gotten too caught up in helping battle the whelps and other subordinates to think of where she had felt that aura from before. She was more focused on Arthas and how his power was different from the last time she had seen him. He had even been using totems and magic spells no Paladin would be able to.
Now that the threats were gone she began to replay the events in her mind, which came easily for her due to her visualization training as a mage.
Then the image of the Frostfire Bolt and Lava Burst attack that he had used which was the start of Onyxia's downfall. Then the armor he was wearing at that time, a high tier mage armor. Then remembering the Lightbringer armor too that he wore, another high tier paladin armor.
Just as more questions than answers began to emerge suddenly the area darkened causing all the soldiers to collectively look up to see what was the cause.
Upon looking up an enormous red dragon could be seen descending from the sky, panic shouting from the guards began as they tried to form up to defend even tho they knew such a large dragon would decimate them before they could ready any kind of viable defense.
Suddenly a large black dragon head fell from the sky, landing with a loud thump onto the ground.
Then a fully armored man jumped down, landing much lighter on the ground than expected for a fully plate armored individual. His armor covered in dark blood that shined in the sunlight giving his armor a menacing look rather than the usual splendor it gave.
After seeing the three women run and tackle the man Jaina knew who this was, the person who has been on her mind for much longer than she would care to admit.
"Arthas." Jaina muttered as the tears once again began to fall.
