After Cyrus and his group had left Kings Landing, they stayed a few days to ensure the people knew that an attack was imminent and to make sure they left, they made their way to Orgrimmar after Cyrus set bombs around the city. He planned to take as many pitates as possible.
'There's no way Littlefinger won't come himself. He knows the chances of any gold making it back to him are slim to none. I hadn't realized he had so many hidden cashes.' Cyrus thought as he placed bombs and searched the city.
Cyrus handed Thrall the extra gold he had found thanks to his [Find Treasure] when he went around Kings Landing setting up charges along with accompanying fireworks.
The girls were shocked at the sight of Orgrimmar and the orcs. At first they were afraid of them, but after seeing them greet them and continued to work they calmed down.
After getting an update on the orcs military campaign, which wasn't up and running yet due to building Bladefist Bay and fending off some attacks from Tolos and New Ghis, they mounted up on Cyrus' [Time-Lost Proto-Drake] since it would be able to help hone in on the time rifts.
As Cyrus and his group were flying to their first time rift, back in Westeros Prince Quentyn Martell had just arrived with a group of five men to Winterfell. Many of the northmen chuckled at them as they passed, the group was looking worn out and many were shaking from the cold. Most Dorish didn't do too well in the north, considering they were used to deserts not the cold.
Everyone could tell the group hadn't really planned their trip very well. They were wearing a rag tag set of mixed equipment from Dorne and northern equipment they had purchased on the road.
Upon entering into the castle they were brought before Ned and Robb in the main meeting hall.
After introductions were made and learning that the young man before them was the Dornish Prince, Ned narrowed his eyes and studied the man.
Besides Quentyn his party included Ser Gerris Drinkwater, Ser William Wells, Ser Cletus and his cousin Ser Archibald Yronwood and a Maester by the name of Kendry. He knew from his friend Oberyn of Doran and his attitude towards his family, he didn't know how to take Doran's feelings about him. He didn't like that he was lumped together with Gregor Clegane, a knight with absolutely no honor, or Robert for that matter who relished at seeing the bodies of Elia and her children. But Ned also understood too, when he had thought his own sister was kidnapped and raped by Rhaegar he too had been one track minded and blamed many until he learned the truth. He had even left the bodies of his loyal bannerman at the Tower of Joy because he was so distraught over her death. He didn't mean to be disrespectful or to dishonor his men, he just had so much sorrow and worry it was the last thing on his mind.
So Ned gave the men Guest Rights, feeding them bread and salt and welcomed them. He got Kinvara to explain the rules in Winterfell, many of the Dornish were checking her out as she went over the rules. She was a very attractive woman and much more sensual than the typical northern women, she was from Volantis so she wasn't a natural northerner but had moved here to assist Cyrus to combat the darkness.
When she went over the information regarding the Hall of Champions the men stopped gawking at her and paid attention fully to her words. This was the first time they were hearing about classes and adventurers, they had heard the stories of what was going on north of the wall but they had disregarded most of it.
When they arrived in front of the Hall and witnessed many coming and going, some were training their class while others trained professions, they wanted to do it too but were stopped by their leader.
Quentyn himself found Kinvara attractive but he was a very cautious person, he doubted a lot of what he was hearing. After observing the northmen and women using the alters and asking questions, many of his friends were surprised by how articulate he was with Kinvara. Usually he wasn't as talkative in front of beautiful women, he was a very insecure person so he talked big to other men but when it came time to follow thru he wouldn't do so well.
Quentyn wasn't a very handsome man, he wasn't ugly either but rather plain. Even at the age of just over 18 he was a virgin unlike most in Dorne, he wanted to be like his Uncle Oberyn or foster father Lord Anders Yronwood rather than his own father.
Doran only had one wife, Lady Mellario of Norvos. Even though they married for love they didn't have a good marriage, half of it was spent arguing with one another. This was mainly due to different customs, Norvos didn't believe in fostering their children with others and that was what had ultimately led to her leaving Doran and going back home to Norvos. They were still legally married but she refused to speak or see Doran. Since then Doran hasn't been with any other woman or had any other children, which was the complete opposite of his younger brother Oberyn who had one main paramour but had many children with others.
That was what Quentyn wanted but his personality made it difficult. He was a solemn person and rarely smiled, but he was also a very earnest, sensible and dutiful knight but his fear of failure and death interfered with some of his decision making. Doran saw his sons faults and felt he needed a push which was why he sent him north, he knew his son was well-behaved and wouldn't act irrationally causing issues so far from home. He also knew that northerners were honorable men, unlike the southern lords, so he knew his son wouldn't have to watch his back. Northerners came from the front and weren't afraid to let people know it.
After getting all the information from Kinvara, the group made their way to the rooms they were assigned in the newly renovated and rebuilt guest towers.
Winterfell as well as many of the northern keeps were fully rebuilt to their original states thanks to the help of the Giants and Children of the Forest. Winterfell had closed down many sections of the castle and towers due to damage or disrepair, they couldn't afford to maintain the castles since they were spending so much just to put food in their bellies.
Seeing the richness of the north Quentyn and his group discussed whether they should take a class or not, they didn't like the fact that they would need to go further north where it was much colder.
After some discussion they had decided to go for it, who wouldn't want to become stronger, but they decided to write to their families and request additional funds. They had heard of the special equipment sold here and in Stormwind which acted as the final safe city south of the wall. The castles along the wall and bases set up beyond it acted more like staging grounds for groups to join together, or to strategize large incursions.
Very rarely would you find vendors or merchants beyond the wall, although some went to the bases for the amount of gold they could collect.
Cyrus made sure all knew that although they aimed for as much safety as possible in the camps and outposts, he made sure they knew that at any time those bases could be attacked and anything lost beyond the wall was lost, whomever found it was able to keep it. It was the simplest way to handle things, they take the risk and what they lose is on them. Their families or relatives had no stake in anything lost north of the wall except family heirlooms, such as Valyrian steel weapons or armor. They were easily identifiable and setting up a reward system for bringing any heirlooms made it highly successful.
Quentyn and his group were also planning on checking out the factions that had been set up due to being able to accept quests that were issued and be able to collect rewards, gold dragons or the new northern currency could be chosen or equipment of equivalent exchange.
The system was highly successful, even leading to the usual gold dragons value dropping compared to the northern currency used by the Bank of Winter. Ned Stark had even set up branches in other northern towns due to wanting to stick it to the Iron Bank as much as possible.
Not long after the coronation, a representative came to demand payment in full for the crowns debts. Ned just had them keep what was in the Stark vaults and even had the remaining funds distributed to the Lannister's account with the bank with interest along with a few other families that still maintained accounts there.
Tyrion had returned home to Casterly Rock, he had rented a flying machine from Ironforge so he would be able to return to Ironforge if things had gone badly.
Contrary to what he had expected, his uncle hadn't been power hungry and his homecoming was very pleasant, until he read the letter his father left him. Tyrion and Kevan had worked together to solve the incoming crisis of the gold mine being empty, it had left the two stunned that Tywin would hide something that would be detrimental long term. Tyrion didn't care for his fathers apology, it was a nice thought but after reading to the end and learning the mines had been empty all that appreciation went out the door. He felt he was left with a headache rather than a fortune.
Lannister's still had plenty of gold in their vaults, but Tyrion knew those gold dragons wouldn't last but a few generations unless they find new revenue. Tyrion was able to implement new systems within his lands which was able to slow the hemorrhaging of gold, he also decided to take a trip to Winterfell to try to restore their relationship with the Starks.
When Tyrion had learned of what his brother and sister had done not only to the Starks but everything else, he finally understood why his father couldn't survive it. They were probably only just above the Freys in reputation, the only reason they were liked more than the Freys was because Lannister's always paid their debts. So their word did still have some value.
If they were going to survive longer they needed to restore the damage, Tyrion knew he had to go North, back to Winterfell. He was thankful that the Starks seemed to not blame all Lannister's for what his family had done, he had heard news that his niece and nephew had taken shelter with the Starks and were even happy.
He had even learned that rather than renege on the loan they had with King Robert, they had paid in full with a bit extra. He was just saddened they paid in gold dragons and not Winter Coin.
Tyrion decided to go alone to Winterfell, he didn't want any risk from anyone he brought to try to use deception or offend anyone while there. He had dealt with many Northerners over the years, so he knew how to have a successful dialogue with them.
He had his uncle remain steward of Casterly Rock and left for Winterfell.
Cyrus and girls had made it to the Sorrows where the next time rift was located. The Sorrows was a ruined city which sat where the Rhoyne and Lhorulu rivers met, it was surrounded by fog and was infested with Greymen. It has been a lawless place for a thousand years, not since the fall of Chroyane during the Second Spice War.
As they made their way thru the fog, they were attacked by the crazed men infected with greyscale. Rather than kill them the group healed them, although some even after being healed had been infected for so long that their minds were completely gone. Those were the ones who had to be killed, otherwise if they made it somewhere civilized no one would know the monster within them till it was too late.
Once they made it to the ruins of the city they were no longer attacked. No pirate or stone men ever stepped inside due to fear of the curse said to reside there, many believed the fog was caused by the curse.
Once they arrived at the rift, which was hidden within a basement of a collapsed building, Cyrus discussed potential threats and what could happen. He wasn't sure if they would get separated or not so he made sure they each had protection, last time he went alone so he wasn't sure what would happen.
After they buffed each other, the group all approached the rift and were sucked in.
