As the weeks went by Petyr Baelish began to grow impatient, he had talked to the girls and Ned Stark many times but even though he could tell they were warming up a bit to him he could tell where their boundaries were. They were keeping him at a distance, he didn't take it personal due to him seeing them doing it to most everyone else. Save for the Dornish sisters and the Baratheon cousins.
Petyr had seen the snakes and wolves becoming close and he wanted exactly that. Petyr was even beginning to believe his plans were divinely inspired, and on the nights he screws his whore he got only for the fact she reminded him of his Cat he would tell her to call him God.
He wanted the North and Dorne together, he knew the hate the snakes had for the lion and he was trying to get the wolf and lion to fight. He felt it would help move everything faster. Even going so far as hiring an assassin to try to kill Bran with a Valyrian dagger in hopes the assassin kills Bran and then is killed or captured. He made sure the assassin would only be able to point to Lannister involvement.
So he didn't let the fact that none of the Starks really gave him much trust, it was only a minor inconvenience to him. Either way he would get his hands on them, he just had to be patient and when they are surrounded by enemies they would run to him, with open arms he would bring them to the Vale where they would think they were safe due to their aunt being there, but they would be very wrong. He could do as he pleases to them there and it would guarantee his Cat would come to him where he could keep her there under the pretense of her safety, by the time she emerged again all the Starks would be dead making her all his.
Petyr played his part throughout the time, but so did others. Regular meetings began to occur between Stannis, Oberyn, Robert and Ned Stark. Although when he began to tell them of the Others but using a different name the only one that really took it seriously was Stannis. Mainly due to Cyrus healing his daughter and asking him to keep an open mind when it came to the Starks. He was an honorable man himself, even though he too didn't truly believe he remained open-minded and did hope it wasn't real. But after seeing a man turn into a bird and fly away, it was hard to argue what was and wasn't possible.
Robert entertained it along with Oberyn due to the weapon designs and wanting to test them. Ned had a bag full of different model guns Cyrus had made, providing multiple of each along with the blueprints so that they could get parts made in Kings Landing while others were made by blacksmiths in the North. It was the only way they knew to keep the weapons out of common folk or anyone not of the military as best as possible. They knew the guns were bound to get out there but if the blacksmiths only knew parts of the whole, they couldn't make it unless they had the whole blueprint.
Due to testing them many of the meetings turned into hunts, the four growing closer as they awaited the tourney. Ned had told them Cyrus would be back by then with proof of the Scourge, so they also kept an open mind with full intent of enforcement of their wager: Regardless of excuse if no proof at the tourney, they had to watch Ned make another bastard. But after he readily agreed they really began to really question if it was really true they really existed. They knew his temperament and knew he wouldn't take that bet normally unless he was sure of winning, it was the reason they gave it as their price to keep an open mind. To test the man, they knew his honor and although it was well known he had one bastard already it wasn't uncommon for lords to have several.
Robert himself had more than a few handful worth by himself, especially since he became king. Even years later a full headcount couldn't be given but the numbers did reach well into double digits.
Tywin himself was dealing with multiple headaches during these past weeks. Tyrion was off sailing the seas, off doing only the Gods knew. He had wanted him to run Lannisport for him now that it was fully repaired but he never came back after the Wall, leaving from White Harbor in the North due to the pirates that frequented the waters. Tywin was just waiting for the day to receive a ransom letter for Tyrion.
But his bigger headache was his alliance with the two houses in the north. Barbrey got one of the most loyal knights under her killed in Essos by Cyrus Stark and both of the houses were wanting to kick start a civil war in the north now due to fear. He knew if they did so they would quickly be crushed by the other houses before the wolf even made a move itself. He was doing his best to keep them from going forward, he didn't know if the Starks could be joined in marriage to his house yet or not and he didn't want them to move unless he knew for sure. He much preferred the wolf then the flayed man. But he would take whatever he could get as well.
He had told them to sit tight till at least after the tourney in a few months because by that time if Tywin didn't get an answer from Lord Stark by then, he would be much more comfortable with being able to support the Bolton's better.
Meanwhile in Essos in the far eastern city of Carcosa, a man in a gown made of golden cloth which was adorned by green pearls and jade was excitedly pacing about his study. He had heard the stories of what happened in Pentos at the Red Wedding as the locals called it. Blood ran the streets for days and the smell of burned flesh and hair remained for weeks. He didn't believe most of the story knowing how common unlearned people exaggerated much but what he did know was magic was performed. Powerful magic. He knew magic very well. He was a Sorcerer Lord and God Emperor of the Golden Empire of Yi Ti and ruler of the Great Empire of the Dawn. Although once upon a time that was saying much, now it was a shadow of its former self. But don't be mistaken that they were weak.
Imagine an empire strong in military and magic, powerful like none before. Conquering vast lands and setting up multiple territories, similar to the Roman Empire. Over time it grew till one day it splintered much like the Roman Empire, although a strong military and foundation they were spread too thin. However, unlike the Roman Empire though the Great Empire of the Dawn consolidated its power to one city. Its knowledge kept and power strengthened rather than weakening although their power was limited to within their own territory no other force challenged them. They had magic and weren't afraid to use it. The yellow emperor had used artifacts to know it was real magic that the wolf had used, not the parlor tricks of the Targaryen's of old.
Sure they cast some nasty curses and had bred a bond with dragons using magic. It allowed them to harness more magical power, but they did nothing much with it. Most of the Westeros magic died out with Old Valyria and the dragons. Targaryen's were the weakest of the houses in Old Valyria when it came to magic, they specialized in 'Dragon Dreams' which allowed them to live since their house left before Old Valyrias destruction. But that's also the funny thing about prophetic dreams, most are self fulfilling and you trying to avoid the prophecy is what caused it. Such as House Targaryen, in order to avoid being destroyed with Old Valyria they in fact caused it themselves. Had they not moved the altar that contained Alexstrasza and took it to Dragonstone so that eggs would appear for them to use, Deathwing would've never destroyed Old Valyria. He had made a deal with them to entrap Alexstrasza allowing him to focus on other things only checking in on Valyria occasionally. No longer seeing her trapped he thought she escaped, in his anger he destroyed Valyria and remained within the Earth. What he was doing all these years was anyone's guess, many who knew what really happened believed he slept. Practitioners of magic knew the true cause of the Doom of Valyria, while others just believed it was the volcano erupting.
The Yellow Emperor now planned to go to Westeros while disguised. A deal had been made long ago between the Citadel and his Empire to stay out of Westeros. They didn't want magic in their realm, their realm being so small it was an easy price to pay for an easy peace with a small country so far away. They still traded with them but all dealing was in Old Town or Iron Bank. But now the 69th Yellow Emperor was cursing his ancestors for giving him trouble.
He was an Emperor and didn't like to hide, it wasn't like he feared the Citadel or even the Iron Bank who was behind them. It would be a minor headache. But he knew if he went openly he would be heavily restricted in who he spoke to and met. That's why he had decided to go undercover and he knew just the best way to do it. His new friend should be up for a journey far away, she has been searching for something. He met her in his travels and witnessed her skill and strength, he invited her to stay to sate his curiosity. She agreed but would exchange healing for room and board rather than as a guest.
A few moments later a woman wearing silver full plate armor and full helm and cleric hood covering the top of the helmet walked into his study, he had used his magic to call for her.
"Hey Julia, care to join me on a journey to a far off land? It would give you a chance to search a lot of areas on the way. You know if you'd tell me what it is you're looking for I may be able to help." The Yellow Emperor quipped, he was very interested in this woman. She was adept at healing saying she was a holy paladin, her magic interested him greatly.
"I've told you a thousand times, it's Justicar Julia Celeste or just Celeste. We aren't formal enough for you to address me by my first name sorcerer. As far as taking a journey, I don't mind I haven't found anything of interest of late and have been thinking of moving on anyway, but can't promise I'll return." She answered, purposely ignoring his question of her quest.
"Ah, such is life. Although I do hope to get to see what is in that helm before we part ways. The curiosity just deepens, come come we shall leave post haste. Death stalks the wolf while the wolf stalks the dead. The joining of Ice and Fire to combat the darkness's return, is threatened from its shadow cast by its own light's burn.
The Age of Heroes returns as do demons of old, we must do all we can for all life is at stake as foretold."
The Yellow Emperor gleefully sang the last part leaving to ready himself for the trip, while Justicar Julia Celeste just shook her head in exasperation at the sorcerer's antics and looked forward to what she may find.
