Capítulo 31: Chapter 31
After the trio fought a few times together, the first one was mostly all Cyrus while the two gawked at not only his warrior attacks but him commanding a bear, direwolf, shadowcat and eagle into battle as well. Even the occasional magic and holy attacks they witnessed continued to stun them, they had never seen or felt anything similar. They too worshipped the Old Gods so they knew the same myths of magic. They knew magic was real but it wasn't the same they were used to seeing.
Most magics used, in Westeros in the current age, were Wargs and Skinchangers. There were still Children of the Forest who could use Earth and plant based magic and knew powerful blood and sacrificial magics but those are hardly used anymore.
After seeing him continue on without them, they looked at the weapons he gave them before coming out of it and beginning their own attacks.
Tormund received a large two-handed axe [Burning Battleaxe] and a one-hand sword that was focused on doing holy damage.
Ygritte received a [Nesingwary 4000] for range and a [Mark "S" Boomstick] for mid to close range.
They began attacking the escorts breaking people out as they moved thru. Cyrus focused mostly on his warrior abilities because he has felt he hasn't been utilizing them most his life, he has usually just 'easy mode' any hardship but now knowing there would not be a good ending thinking he could do the same to the Lich King.
Night King sure, nothing a [Holy Fire] or two couldn't solve. He knew the Lich King was eternal, there was only sealing the helm and its horde to another dimension.
So as he progressed thru the undead he began wanting to blend similar attacks and incorporate them together. Slowly even without them realizing it Ygritte and Tormund were leveling up but they didn't know what it was, they just continued.
Meanwhile back in Kings Landing many were circling the Starks. Varys, Petyr and Joffrey each with their own reasons and their own targets. Varys sole target was Cyrus himself for Varys knew the Starks were needed as a whole to keep the north secure.
Littlefinger after them all, particularly the girls for he felt he could manipulate them to his benefit. He focused mainly on them, making sure to appear here and there talk of times with their mother, coming off as endearing and trustworthy. A friend of their mothers so therefore their friend.
Joffrey too like Petyr was after the girls, he wanted to hurt them. He didn't get what he wanted which was to watch the girls have to watch their wolf be slaughtered and enjoy seeing that pain. He knew the wolf would attack if he pointed the sword at Arya, he counted on it. It was the only reason he even asked Sansa to go for a walk, it was to cause as much suffering as possible, three for the price of one. He knew that Cyrus would be affected too and that was the main target, he was upset that he couldn't have his hound cause trouble the following morning after the feast.
Then after he had just one day shown up on the trip none of his offers to Sansa were accepted as readily and when he insisted they were accompanied by Cyrus and others so he couldn't try to make anything up.
He also had detected the change in Sansa after they had arrived in Kings Landing. By that time all the Starks knew of Jaime pushing Bran and Tywin's alliance against them.
Sansa had a mind a little more accustomed to the south, she did take after Caitlyn very much, she had used Obara, Nymeria and Tyene's interest in her brother to forge an alliance of sorts much to Oberyn and Ellaria's joy. They themselves have tried to meet Cyrus especially after their three daughters spoke of him that day they met. Amazed at the craftsmanship of the mechanical moving doll. Oberyn even found out they could be used for training really fast. First meeting in fact, when his daughters first walked in he saw them enter behind and thought they were under attack by little men.
They have only been able to meet with Ned so far but he had been polite and courteous to them both genuinely, which was a refreshing experience for the two Sand Snakes. Most families looked down on them: One, for Dornish being so open and their women did as they pleased the same as men. It wasn't uncommon or looked down on having multiple partners in Dorne for both men and women. Two, Ellaria's last name was Sand so she was a bastard and even though in Dorne bastards were not looked down on, in the other realms that wasn't the case.
Northerners were much like Dorne when it came to bastards, they gave you the respect you earned. Ned respected both of them, he has heard of their reputations for being skilled fighters. They also didn't beat around the bush getting straight to the point, embarrassingly so at times. Ned being invited to their bed chambers multiple times, him having to respectfully decline, though it was uncomfortable for him each time it can also be a good way to break the ice between people. You'd be surprised at how open you could be to someone after dealing with an uncomfortable situation.
They did become friends especially after Oberyn had seen some blueprints for the guns. Oberyn was not just a lover and fighter, he was also a scholar. He may not have his links like a Maester but he did study at the Citadel for a time. It was where most of his knowledge of poisons and antidotes came from. He also studied other subjects so when he saw the blueprints for something new, his and Ned's love of new inventions and ideas increased their time. Having talks of his sons different inventions they quickly became friends. Not very close but definitely where Ned actually did enjoy conversations with, unlike the many others. Petyr Baelish and Varys regular visits due to the king wanting to hold a tourney, he didn't enjoy those conversations always having to watch what he says and how he says it.
Even though Ned wanted to strangle Robert and his Master of Coin after he found out how indebted the crown was, six million gold dragons; four going to the Iron bank and the other two to the Lion. He would've shoved Petyr's head up his friends arse had he not needed to use the tourney as a means to easily gather the lords.
He could tell they both had ulterior motives, Varys he could tell wanted something either from Cyrus or Cyrus himself he wasn't sure which. As for Petyr, he wasn't sure on anything cause he did ask about Cyrus but also talked about Caitlyn and his daughters. He wasn't liking any avenue that did come to mind but they didn't make sense. He didn't feel comfortable around the man, he knew his feelings for his wife.
Plus Robert was pressuring an engagement with Sansa, which with everything that has come to light with Jaime and Tywin he has avoided the subject not wanting to hurt his feelings. He was trying to figure out a way to get at least Myrcella and Tommen safely away due to the fact that he has seen neither of them display any signs of madness.
It didn't take long for him to hear whispers of Joffrey and his tastes, especially for girls of similar looks as his daughters and even boys that looked like Cyrus of late since the return from Winterfell, Littlefinger made sure Ned knew. He was wanting to pit the wolf against the lion, it would bring chaos to the realm.
Ned didn't trust Littlefinger completely but that wouldn't mean he wouldn't take his claims seriously. It wasn't hard for him to find out what Joffrey did before Winterfell, it was quite known amongst those that worked in and around the keep. He also had confirmed for himself thru his own men and so he had decided Robert could have the boy and his mother.
Arya was also causing some issues around the keep, she had improved greatly as a rogue. She was practicing her [Stealth] and getting good at it. Scaring most staff and guards by appearing out of shadows. Grand Maester Pycelle even had called her demon for her ability to sneak about so silently it became her new moniker amongst the Kingsguard and others around the keep. Silent Wolf.
Sansa after finding out about Joffrey and what he had been doing before and after he returned from Winterfell caused her to put in more effort not only in her meditation to sense her mana she also began to redouble her efforts with the Sand girls. She knew she could trust them, she was selling her brother to them ever so slowly date by date and kiss by kiss after all. She didn't feel bad, she would enjoy the show when they went to collect.
Her mother always told her knowing what a person wanted was key to getting what you wanted. She used the girls as a shield, they were famous for being beautiful and deadly so by selling off her brother she got free roam around Kings Landing shops and city. Even throwing in bonuses if they did run into trouble.
Cersei and Jaime were keeping their eye on Ned to see if he followed in Jon Arryns footsteps of looking into their children's heritage since it would tell them if Bran woke up. They knew he would need proof to back up the claim. They didn't know he already knew but just hadn't found the right chance to keep the innocent safe. Ned felt even if all three had potential they were cancerous for the realm.
King Robert had actually cleaned up a bit, he was still whoring with no slow down but his drinking did. He had seen Ned training and witnessing his brother improve so much since he had last remembered, it motivated him to get back into shape.
Stannis too made regular visits with his wife and daughter to see the Starks. Shireen quickly became close to the girls, Arya even gifted her with her old [Jeeves] since she had the [S.A.V.I.O.R] the only difference between them was one could fly and the other couldn't since Cyrus had upgraded the [Jeeves] they had until he was able to give them the better model. So the first [Jeeves] girls were born. They took to being able to talk anytime anywhere like a dwarf takes to triple strength alcohol.
Shireen especially, since for so long she feared interactions with people due to the reactions they gave to seeing her. Now she no longer had a scar, now she would still get reactions but due to her beauty rather than seeing only the greyscale. She too was curious about their brother, he distracted her and healed her before she knew it. It wasn't till after her emotions had settled along with her mothers that she had realized he was gone. She had then decided to dress up to finally see him at the feast to celebrate and finally get a good look at him. She didn't think he would've been able to heal her and was afraid to look at his face for fear of seeing his reaction to her face. She was disappointed when her parents told her he had to go and was sorry, so he wouldn't be joining. When they then told her he turned into a bird and flew away her eyes sparkled with interest making them tell her everything. She too wanted to learn if possible, she had been cooped up in a room all her life. If she could turn into a bird she could see the world.
