Enid drove to Jessica's house, who was sitting in the backseat of the car next to Ethan, who had his head resting on her shoulder;
He looked weak, as if he had suddenly become ill. It was pale and cold.
Jessica hugged him and tried to warm his hands on the fur coat she wore as they walked back to the house.
They started to approach Jessica's house. She placed a warm kiss on Ethan's cheek and quickly got out of the car as they pulled up in front of the house.
Jessica thanked Enid and hurried inside.
Upon arriving home, Enid noticed that Ethan was freezing and looking sick.
"Ethan, are you feeling okay? Do you want me to take you to the hospital?" She asked her son, worried, while looking for a hot water bottle to warm the boy.
"It's okay, I'm just too cold." He said, coughing and trying to cover himself with his arms.
Enid helped Ethan into the bedroom and covered him with some blankets. After a few minutes, she handed him the hot water bottle, along with some cold medicine and a glass of water, and sat on Ethan's bed, stroking his head until he fell asleep.
Ethan began to feel his own body warm with the covers, however, with the feeling of energy entering the boy's body. She went up slowly, because the boy's mother had let in a crack in the door.
Ethan was exhausted, as if he had run a marathon, not normal for what had happened. So, in a matter of seconds, he just closed his eyes and slept soundly.
Hours pass and Ethan wakes up desperate, as if he had had a nightmare. He looked at the clock and there is still 1 hour left for him to get up.
At the same moment, all the memories of what happened the day before come back to Ethan, who puts his hand on his head at the same moment and feels the bandage that his mother made while he was sleeping. Strangely, the bruise doesn't hurt when he touches it.
Before he could think about it too much, he remembered Jessica and hurried to get the cell phone that was still in his pocket.
There was a message from her:
"Hi Ethan. I'm sorry about today! I hope you're okay. I didn't mean to cause that. Don't be mad at me, please! I promise I won't bother you anymore. Please message me when you see this. I am very worried about you :( ".
Ethan's heart sank as he read that. Jessica wasn't to blame for anything that had happened.
"Jes, it's okay. I am not angry with you. Just take care, all right? I don't want anything to happen to you!" Ethan answered.
Ethan got up and took off the bandage in front of the mirror, to try to see how the wound was, and he was startled when he saw it. There was nothing on his forehead. No injuries. As if nothing had happened.
It was then that he began to reflect on what had happened. Yesterday, he felt a different sensation besides the thick smoke. This time, he felt shocks throughout his entire body.
- But why? It was like I was being electrocuted with every blow... And that made me so angry and nervous - Ethan thought, still holding the cell phone. - And that guy... How did I do that? I simply looked at him, but it clearly wasn't just a look. -
It was then that things started to make sense.
- Anger... I felt anger... And I've never felt so angry in my life. It intensifies my power, of course! Darkness improves my skills, but rage uses all my power in one skill! - He thought, getting up from the bed, excited and renewed. - That's why I got so sick afterward... -
"I used my current maximum." Ethan spoke loudly.
"Ethan? Already awake?". Enid called from downstairs, heading up the stairs.
"Oh yes, mother. I'm going to take a shower". Ethan yelled back, running towards the bathroom before his mother could find him and see the healed wound.
"Let me see your wound. I need to know if it got better!". Enid said, walking to the bathroom.
"No need, no! I already feel great!" Ethan yelled, locking the door.
"Hurry up, Ethan. Stop bullshit. Let me see!". Enid said, trying the handle.
"Oh, I'm naked!". Ethan shouted a warning.
In the same instant, the doorknob stopped moving, and he heard his mother laughing and going back down to the first floor.
He sighed in relief and took off his clothes to take a shower. Looking in the mirror, he noticed that he was no longer pale, and he didn't have any bruises on his body. Apparently, the darkness not only charged his energy, but also regenerated it. Maybe it wouldn't regenerate serious injuries yet, just minor bumps and cuts. He wouldn't risk testing that for now.
After his shower, Ethan bent down to find a bandage in the cupboard under the sink. That's when he found his mother's medicine box.
There were some bandages lying around, along with some common medicine.
Ethan took them and placed them where the wound would have been, so his mother wouldn't have to find out it was healed.
He went back to his room and put on blue jeans, a beige shirt and a waterproof coat, since it looked like it was going to rain that day.
Ethan went downstairs and found his mother having a cup of coffee while watching television.
"How are you feeling? Let me see your wound." She said, as she reached over to hold his head.
"No need, I already made the dressing. I'm feeling good". Ethan replied, pulling his head away from his mother's hands.
"You look fresh. Isn't that medicine really working? Enid said, while picking up a medicine box that was on the kitchen table. "But anyway, you better take another one to make sure it doesn't get worse." She completed, going to get Ethan a glass of water.
Then his cell phone rang again.
"I'm relieved to hear you're okay! I almost didn't sleep today, worried." Jessica sent it to him.
"Lol, don't worry about me." He replied, with a small smile on the corner of his face.
"Is it that girl?". Enid asked, approaching with the glass of water and medicine. "Don't think I forgot, okay? I want you two today, after school, at the police station!"
"I haven't forgotten, either." Ethan answered and then took the medicine.
"Go get your breakfast, so I can take you to class. Or do you think you are not well enough to go today?" Enid asked, taking back the cup of coffee she had been drinking.
"Nah, it's okay. Yes, I will!". Ethan answered.
"Hm, how strange. You always prefer missing. Then fine…". Enid replied, frowning.
After eating breakfast, Enid drove Ethan to school, still dropping him off at the school corner.
Ethan walked to class and saw Jessica from a distance with her group of friends, who were asking her a lot of questions.
Meanwhile, he noticed a strange movement. Everyone seemed to be looking at him and whispering to their colleagues about Ethan. He straightened up, a little uncomfortable with the situation. Everyone was probably aware of what had happened last night.
Ethan tried to ignore the stares in his direction, but he had a strange feeling, like he was ashamed, but that feeling didn't seem to belong to him. It looked like it was the body's former owner's feelings, shy with so many looks.
