Capítulo 128: Fading Warmth

The sight of Axiolypito and Faceless Lord sitting at the same table was very much a humorous one.

On one side, Axio, garbed in the attire he had worn for most of his life looked most regal and distinguished, but his feet didn't reach the ground and the chair looked too large for him, leaving enough space for two others of his stature to seat on each of his sides.

Meanwhile, opposite to him, Faceless Lord was wearing absolutely nothing, he had to bend his knees and lean forward to meet Axio's gaze with nothing, since he had no eyes, he was so thin that five of him would be able to sit down while barely touching one another.

The goblin chief, called Asshole by everybody, had his anxiety from earlier completely replaced with the urgent need to laugh out loud but not wanting to be converted to nothing but a memory, he kept a straight face, struggling to keep his facial muscles from forming even the slighest of smiles.

'Stay strong, stay strong, there is nothing funny or amusing, you cannot see anything, you are blind...' he constantly thought loudly to distract himself.

'...'

'Why did they give him a cup also?!' he still couldn't help but wonder.

For some reason, Faceless Lord had been given something to drink.

'Faceless Lord! It's in the freaking name! He has no mouth!'

The goblin was left to his own struggles as the two ministers spoke to one another, none pointing out the ridiculous nature of their exchange.

Both maintaining their conversation as casually as ever.

"So that's that, nothing too mysterious on my side, how about you?" Axiolypito had just finished retelling his humble beginnings with only some slight modifications.

Faceless Lord stayed silent for a few moments, his head move down, as though he was staring at his reflection in the cup, which couldn't be the case since he was as blind as a eyeless bat.

'Well, I don't remember much of my early life, no that's not it, I remember it vividly but it was simply the same thing for years' he began explaining in his usual tone.

'I was born in darkness, I had no sight at all, I couldn't sense anything around me at the start but I only knew one thing, I was afraid'

'I was afraid and something was missing, at first, I was scared but there was warmth, a soothing warmth but it soon began to go away, I curled into a ball to preserve some heat'

'Even after all of the warmth was gone, I simply couldn't resolve myself to get away from where I was, it had gone cold but it was still soft and soothing, I liked it here'

Axio remained impassive as he listened closely to this bizarre story, not noticing any signs of any emotions from the empty face of the monster, nor did he move in any unusual manners.

'Time went by, I must have stayed in there for years since I had grown much bigger than at the start, my safe haven was beginning to grow cramped for me, still, I refused to move'

This time, Faceless Lord made a movement, rising his head up at the ceiling, pointing up with one of his stumps.

'The cocoon I had stayed for all of my life up to that point began to break, I felt the light of the sun on my skin for the first time and its warmth lured me outside'

'Surprisingly, I was able to stand and walk in little to no time, I stepped out of my birthplace for the very first time and the world around me suddenly became clear, I could finally feel what I couldn't see'

'I was at the very bottom of a deep chasm, the sides seemed covered in something dark, seemingly burnt by something, from the very top to the very bottom, everything had been burnt, everything but me and the cocoon I had finally emerged from'

Silence befell the room for what seemed dozens of minutes.

None of the two monsters made any noise or moved, the goblin had long taken his chance to leave, only Axiolypito and Faceless Lord remained.

'The cocoon had been my mother all along, the warmth and its disappearance had been her corpse growing cold...'

'The rays of light reaching had only been due her body finally beginning to decay, even in death, she had nurtured and protected me'

'By the point I had learned to feel the things around me, she had rotted away too much to be recognisable, appearing as nothing but a slug of rotten flesh with bones piercing through'

He put his two stumps on the table lightly.

'And so, I cried and screamed until my mouth was sealed shut by my own skin, when it happened, I felt all of the sorrow vanish away and I was able to see what was left'

'I had cried for so long, that not even her bones remained any longer, so I left the chasm and wandered aimlessly until I was found by her majesty, the Obsidian Queen'

He sounded at peace speaking of the queen.

'I felt the same soothing presence from her than I had from my mother, it couldn't be a coincidence, so I followed the queen and aided her in every single thing possible, for me, it is just lending a hand to my mother, it does not matter whether we are conquering nations, slaughtering civilisations or anything else'

'As long as I am with mother, life is as it should be, don't you agree, Axio?' he suddenly asked, making Axiolypito straighten his back.

"I don't know, I dont' think anyone other than you amongst the ministers can claim to share such a relationship with the queen, but I must asked..." Axio closed one eye as he looked at Faceless.

"You are like family, so why is it that she hasn't given you a name like for me?" he asked, feeling like this might make the minister a bit sour.

Surprisingly enough, it didn't seem to bother Faceless Lord in the least.

"She only grant names to those that she knows the true names of, only you and Cradled Lich have had that luck" he simply explained.

'Cradled Lich huh?' thought Axio, he hadn't known that.

He supposed that Faceless was right, Axio's otherwise silent system had repeatedly mentioned that he had found his true name when the queen spoke it aloud.

'Still, I feel like I learned something important here' he smiled devilishly in his mind.
