Before anyone could even exhale, Axiolypito was already swimming away with Nartak right on his tail.
Axio's idea to make the snake move was very simple, he had first intended to find and desecrate the queen's grave and bring back her skull or something, to rouse the serpent's wrath.
As a friend of the king, Nartak should also place a high value onto the king's 'peace of mind'.
It seemed only natural in Axio's eyes and he had been right, simply holding her crown had earned him the guardian's full attention.
Although, it had had even greater effects than expected...
"Why are you shining?" Axiolypito threw this question at the serpent as he did his best to avoid the attacks thrown his way, in the stagnating waters, Nartak was still faster and more agile than Axio.
Indeed, the bloated beast had begun emmiting a bright glow, a truly brilliant light that shined even through the filthy ocean.
The monster that had been decaying alive was looking less and less dead, the bloated bits of his body slowly grew smaller and smaller, his scales regained their vitality and the holes covering his tortured body closed one by one.
Axio wouldn't be able to pull his trick of escaping through one of the gaping wounds anymore, he would better avoid being caught between Nartak's jaws.
The stagnating water closest to the body of the beast seemed to be purified for as long as the snake remained close-by too.
The wretch didn't know why this was happening and he didn't care for the semantics of it all, all that mattered was that he could see the marine creature he had left as a landmark.
Wriggling like an eel, he ordered the beast to charge to its death toward Nartak and simply put his back up against the ceiling of the ocean, the needled monster was converted to nothing but little specks of blood in no time, barely even slowing down the hadal serpent.
Nartak most certainly noticed the fact that Axio's action was strange, but his thoughts were clouded with utter rage and indignation, he felt no fear right now, he only thought of killing the wretched pest.
He simply charged forward, not opening his maw, simply smashing his head against the wretch, breaking right through the ceiling of the ocean and into the cave above.
Axio was perfectly fine as per usual, blunt force trauma had never been much of an issue, especially when the enemy had no finesse in their attacks.
He shrunk his body and quickly sped away, out of the serpent's sight.
Such blatant cowardice made Nartak hiss but this sort of display should be expected from a grave robber.
The snake wondered what course of action to take next, should he go back to the entrance of the cavern or should he still attempt to give pursuit?
He felt the former was more appropriate but couldn't shake off the irresistible desire he had of crushing Axio.
However, now so deep into the monster's ploy, Nartak had no choice to make as he felt something slamming into the side of his skull.
He had been too focused on Axiolypito, he hadn't paid any mind to the human present in the cave, the old hunter had been exactly where he needed to be for Axio's plan to work.
He had thankfully not moved from his position at all and being the hunter of monsters that he was, witnessing Nartak poking his head in there had sent him onto a new hunt.
Nartak moved his head away from the axe before it could find its way any deeper, the sudden movement demolished a great portion of the cave, leading to a great collapse.
The venator whistled as he could feel the sheer amount of destruction as he casually dodged the rubbles falling on him, whilst Axiolypito didn't bother to avoid anything, bidding his time.
The once small cave system was no more, now an enormous dome replaced a great portion of it, small bits of rocks continued to fall for a few seconds, falling to the rocky ground or into some of the many holes leading into the ocean below.
In the center of the now gigantic room, the hole Nartak had barged in through was the largest and separated him from the venator.
Axiolypito had expected that Nartak would simply go away at this point, the wretch hadn't expected all of the destruction and such but nothing changed for him.
Nartak shouldn't have any business with the old man, however, instead of slithering back into the ocean, he stood tall and looked down on the hunter.
'He wants to fight?' wondered Axio, feeling perplexed, the idea was to simply get Nartak out of the water for a few moments, since Axiolypito would be faster than the serpent on dry ground, he would have been able to put his plan into execution.
But instead of turning back into the water below, Nartak remained up here and seemed ready to take down the hunter, for some reason.
'Huh, now that I think about it...' Axiolypito found himself looking the snake up and down while rubbing his chin.
It had never occured to him before, but...
'Nartak doesn't have any of the features of a sea snake'
Indeed, he hadn't paid attention to the discrepancy before since was ludicrous to not believe that the hadal serpent wasn't a sea born but seeing him out of the water, it was obvious.
He lacked the shape to trave efficiently under water, he had the features of regular snakes, monsters were strange but from an oversized creature, Axio would have expected some coherence.
Nartak cut his train of thought short as he let of loud hiss, baring his fangs at the hunter, a great mass of toxins suddenly escaping from his open maw.
The old man sidestepped the projectile and began running in direction of his foe, the place he had been moments ago melting away.
Nartak did the same and moved forward, the two of them would soon clash.
