-Great Plains Of Roderst, Surrounding The Royal Castle-
The sun had been high, the day had been bright, exceptionally bright in spite of the current situation throughout the kingdom.
The passing of the seasons, neither the weather cared for what was happening, massacre, genocide or whatever horrors held no meaning to this silent force of nature.
As such, it didn't bother to foreshadow anything and thus, when an army of monster was warped in a tight formation facing the main gate protecting the city, the royal castle lying in its very center, overlooking the whole city with its regal structure.
The orderly sea of monstruous figures was spearheaded by two beings whose aura couldn't be mistaken with any other.
"Jareld, any brilliant idea?" the king, watching the unmoving and silent formation threatening his people and himself asked the captain of the silver knights, also the advisor strategist.
"It would seem like they await someone to converse with them" replied the tanned man, his silver helm adorned with gold resting under his arm.
"Monsters wanting to negotiate? I find that hard to believe..." responded the king back, it was ludicrous but witnessing monsters that would normally ravage without clear thought staying put like obedient dogs was certainly putting a dent into his beliefs.
"I was told that the monsters all suddenly appeared after 'reality bent and warped', they can appear wherever they want at anytime I presume, they could have appeared in your throne room or at least within the city" he shook his head.
"They could have already slaughtered many but didn't, I don't know what they have to say but I would be a fool to say that I would refuse their demands..." seeing the battle maniac thinking this way made the king shuffle uncomfortably.
"Though... It depends on what it is that they want, what is your decision your majesty?" Jareld leaned forward, eyeing the two figures standing in the front of the formation.
On the left, a lanky featureless monster that seemed to be about three meters tall, definitely the most unsettling of the two, with his limbs that got skinnier as if forcefully elongated ending his stumps appearing as natural as they could get.
Despite being able to see his ribs pushing against his skin, it was impossible to decipher any breathing or twitch, akin to a corpse standing.
On the right, a much more mundane sight but no less worrying, a green-skinned orc with two large tusks protruding from his mouth, much more lively than the other by an immeasurable margin.
Striking his bare chest with his fists repeatedly, making an unnaturally loud sound each time, it seemed like he found little usage out of armor as he was only wearing pieces on his legs and midsection, leaving everything above without protection.
His head was free of any hair but he sported a long white beard decorated with rings made out of various materials.
Two identical axes were planted into the ground.
Tied around his waist, a piece of dark, torn cloth could be seen flowing through the calm breeze, a never seen before emblem etched on its surface in white, the very same emblem was tatooed on his chest and back.
The emblem of the Obsidian Queen.
His eyes had that look of barely concealed madness and thirst for combat, a simple look would make nearly anyone have cold feets.
"Send anyone of your choosing, be sure to tell them to not elevate the hostilities" ordered the king with a forlorn expression as he stared at the block of monsters.
"Very well, I will not disappoint you" calmly spoke Jareld, making his intention clear as he headed toward the gate by himself.
The advisor didn't bother to go through the gate, without an ounce of hesitation, he got up on the rampart and jumped down, walking up with calm steps up to the two leaders of the orderly horde.
He slightly looked up at the towering lanky figure before lowering his gaze to the orc after seeing no reaction.
The orc was just a slight bit taller than him, his demeanor was calm as he nodded his head, as if inviting him to speak first.
"I am Jareld, advisor of Roderst, who am I speaking to?" he asked respectfully as he stayed at a good distance from the two leaders.
The orc cleared his throat and closed his eyes as if to think about his next words.
"Undying Prophet, yet to be named, Second Minister of her majesty, The Obsidian Queen, also known as The Monster Queen" he grinned while spreading his arms.
Jareld felt his heart sink as he heard this, it was to be expected but getting the confirmation still made him shudder.
A lord of monsters? This hadn't happened in forever, so far back that little information about it was available.
Still, one would have to be a fool to not understand the danger this sort of being could pose.
One entity ruling over all sorts of monsters alike, with so many and diverses troops ready to do all of her bidding, it wasn't insane to liken the power a monster lord held to be akin to that of a god.
'We can get in at any time with as many forces as we wish, however, our queen has a greater plan in mind than annihilation' another voice suddenly crept into Jareld's mind.
'Prepare all of your forces right here and there, the queen wants it to be perfect, so take your time, just be aware that if you attempt to buy time, we will know and not appreciate' with this thinly veiled threat, Faceless stopped speaking at once.
"This little army was just to have a civil discussion" added the orc with a toothy smile.
None of the two ministers elaborated on what this was all meant to accomplish, not because they wanted to be mysterious but because the Obsidian Queen had kept it all to herself for now.
Although most had a clear idea of what this was supposed to accomplish, a fair battle most likely to show their strength to the other nations and crush their spirit before they would even be able to think about fighting.
Despair was a powerful tool, for those that were caught in its web would only be that much easier to control and eliminate.
"Why not do something else?" without fear, Jareld spoke up, his eyes ignited with a keen glint that deserved attention.
"Mmh?" Undying Prophet was interested, his muscles stiffening up instantly, he appeared so riled up that Faceless Lord brought one of his arms in front of the orc as if fearing that he would go feral any second.
"I do not doubt your army's superiority, I will not claim that we people are stronger than the monsters, you both have overwhelming force and incredible numbers on your side without a doubt..."
"So why not demonstrate your temperament by pitting our bests against one another in duels?" he said, knowing that the first option meant certain loss and the death of thousands, it would be meaningless.
The Second Minister seemed thrilled by the idea but he still didn't dare to agree without the approval of the queen, this was why he turned to Faceless, who quickly warped away and back.
'Her majesty applauds your daringness and subsequently agrees to your proposal, you will need to find seven worthy souls to be pitted against each minister, the fights will be decided at random, however, the monster activities will not be paused in the country, you have much time, do not waste it nor back down, lest her majesty choses to demonstrate her strength personally'
After informing the advisor, both of the ministers and the army vanished as everything twisted, leaving Jareld all by himself but with a big smile on his face.
Even if much things hadn't been clarified, he was still content to have avoided the worst case scenario.
'Only seven will have to die at most...'
