Capítulo 12: Chapter 12

Two young men, both with enhanced speed and strength, sparred in the dense Monserrat forest. They moved so quickly that their forms were nothing more than blurs as they darted around each other, exchanging blows and testing their abilities. The sound of their punches and kicks echoed throughout the forest, accompanied by the snapping of branches as they moved through the trees.

Khai jumped from a high branch, landing on Elliot's shoulder, effectively knocking him down. The leaves and twigs of the forest floor were crunching beneath them as they grappled and rolled, each trying to gain the upper hand.

In a blink, Khai held a pocket knife against Elliot's neck while restraining him in a chokehold. Elliot tapped out, signaling that he lost as he pushed Khai's hand off of his throat.

Khai spread out his limbs as he lay on the forest floor, closing his eyes and focusing on the his breathing. Elliot spat out some blood as he scowled at Khai. Austin leapt nimbly, from rock to rock, finally settling on one, close to his friends. He pulled out a flask and handed it to Elliot after taking a swig.

"What are you?" Austin asked, with disbelief in his tone as he looked down at Khai.

"What is wrong with you?" Elliot joined Austin on the rock. His face was red and he was drenched in sweat. He took another sip from the flask and ran his fingers through his blonde hair.

"I thought we'd have it easy before training" he muttered bitterly. He noticed his friend had been in a restless mood for the last three days and wondered what was bothering him so much.

As Khai tuned their bickering out, his mind drifted to shades of green with bursts of brown and gold that radiated from Anaya's eyes. He was scared he would forget them if he didn't see her again. His legs twitched as he fought the idea of climbing to her window to catch a glimpse of her. He didn't want to scare her, but she was taking too long to step out of her darned room.

"Man, I'm beat. Let's head back and get some rest this weekend. Khai, I refuse to spar or train with you until classes start on Monday." Austin declared as he jumped from rock to rock disappearing from the clearing.

Elliot squatted next to Khai, cocking his head before flicking his friend's forehead. Khai's brows furrowed as he opened his eyes and glanced at Elliot.

He pushed himself up, grabbing the flask from Elliot and emptying it's remains in his mouth. Elliot got up and threw an arm around his shoulders shaking him playfully.

"Let's go to Natalie's party tomorrow. I'll make it worth your while." He said. Khai nodded, scoffing at himself internally. A party would fix nothing, but he was willing to welcome any distraction at this point.

Anaya stood next to Meghan, staring at their reflections in the mirror. Meghan had two outfits in her hand and she kept switching them in front her, trying to decide what to wear for the night. Anaya scrutinized both outfits with a critical eye before she spoke.

"Definitely the crop top. Sexy, but casual. Pair them with the embroidered floral denim and you're totally making a statement."

Meghan nodded seriously, agreeing with her friend. As if on a mission, she turned to Anaya with a serious look. "Let's get ready." She said.

The girls broke out into excited grins as they frantically ran around the room, trying to gather everything they needed. Meghan held the curler like she was holding a weapon as she walked to Anaya. They burst into giggles as Ana sat in front of her.

After an hour a curling, primping, blending and smudging, two stunning reflections stood next to each other in the mirror. Anaya wore blue jeans with her dramatic pleated white crop top. Her eyes were dusted with glitter and her cheeks held a natural blush that matched the color of her nude pink lips. The waves fell loosely on her bare neck and shoulders, accentuated in the nineties bombshell blowout that Meghan gave her. A thin line of eyeliner hid behind her long lashes, emphasizing her huge eyes.

She bent down to zip her white ankle length boots and did the same with Meghan's boots as well. They wore matching boots on Meghan's suggestion. "Like sisters." She grinned.

Meghan looked like a movie star who didn't have to try as she puckered her lips to spread her lip gloss evenly. Her red hair fell into loose curls that danced on her back and the snug white top hugged her figure in all the right places. Pleased with their efforts, the girls walked out to meet George downstairs, conveniently ignoring the huge mess behind them.

George's jaw dropped as he saw the girls walk towards him. He should've been used to this by now, but every time the girls decided to dress up, he felt like a frump. His white t-shirt and black shorts made him look severely underdressed. As he held the car door open for both Meg and Ana, he realized that nobody would even pass him off as their driver.

"Why don't you guys shop for me?" He complained gloomily. "Walking with you girls makes me stick out like a sore thumb."

"A. We love you for who you are, your taste in clothes included. B. Minimalism becomes you, Georgie." Ana snickered.

"Only you can pull this off, babe." Meghan chimed in. "Besides, I think it's obvious by now, isn't it?"

"What is?"

"We don't care what you wear." Ana and Meghan spoke in unison before bursting into giggles.

George started the car with a resentful scowl, wondering why these girls always chose to gang up on him.

They drove out of the school gates with the high beams turned on. It was close to 10 PM and a lot of students had already left to the party. Chelsea spot was a small exit into the forest while driving from Arcane to Monserrat. One could easily miss it if they didn't know what they were looking for. George simply followed all the cars ahead of him. Their whole year was heading to the party, so he wasn't worried about going to the wrong spot.

As they drove into the exit, several cars were parked on either side of the road as students walked up to a large clearing in the forest.

The secluded forest glade looked like something out of fairytale. String lights hung from lower branches on the trees, adding more light to the party. A large bonfire blazed in it's center, filling the air with a scent of woodsmoke. Students sat on large logs placed in parallel sets of two around the bonfire with aesthetic purpose, holding red cups in their hands.

Several beer kegs were placed at different parts of the clearing for students to fill their cups. Sounds of chatter and laughter filled the air, mixed with chill house music that played from 2 large speakers on either sides of the clearing.

"She really knows how to throw a party." George said. The three friends stood at the beginning of the path to the clearing, staring at the sight in front of them in a trance.
