Capítulo 12: SS 1 A Kitsune's Talk with the Kamisato's Chief Retainer

3rd POV

While Ayaka and Akira were conversing...

Thoma looked at them with a happy smile, seeing that Ayaka was going to have another person she could consider as a 'friend.' Evident with how much she enjoyed talking with Akira.

When he had heard them switch to calling each other by names instead of honorifics, Thoma was elated. After all, the fact that Ayaka, who was mostly hesitant with her own opinion and thoughts was able to call someone not by a title bestowed or one would know was a step in the good path. And from the short time Thoma had been able to converse with Akira, he knew that the Disciple of the Lady Guuji was actually quite distant to strangers. If he had to say his impression about Akira as a friend, it would be:

"To strangers, he can be quite distant. However, to the people he considers as friends, he can be a mischievous and carefree person probably something that he gained due to his Master, the Lady Guuji. He is usually serious though so it would be rare to see him act in such a way."

If one thought about it, Thoma's impression of Akira sounded like one of an old friend's, even though it was only recently he had even met and conversed with him, and even more recently he had been able to be friends with him.

Maybe it could be the perks of being such a sociable and trusting guy? Who knows?

As Thoma was thinking about such things, he had heard a voice that came from behind him.

"I've heard that you've become a friend of my Disciple in a short amount of time, isn't that great?"

The voice was gentle and even soft as it spoke but for Thoma, it felt somehow terrifying, as if gaining Akira as a friend was a trap.

Thoma, of course, immediately identified who was the person behind him.

Akira's Master, Guuji Yae, the head shrine maiden of Inazuma's Grand Narukami Shrine.

This was of course not the first time he had met the Guuji, but this time... Hearing her speak like that, he wanted to bolt away. But due to the kind of person Thoma is (A/N: A Chad in all honesty), he had instead faced the Guuji with his signature kind smile, hiding his uneasiness at the Guuji's tone.

"It is, Lady Guuji! Akira can be quite the thoughtful person."

Thoma said. However, maybe too quickly for a person who is supposed to be 'calm.'

"Oh? What's the matter? You seem to be speaking in a hurried manner. You had even addressed me not by what you usually with. How strange, isn't it?"

Yae Miko says as if curious and ignorant as to Thoma's predicament. And before Thoma could reply, she continues softly and gently as she had spoke the first time, all of course with a 'kind' and 'gentle' smile on her face:

"Anyway, I'm sure you understand the importance of trust in any sort of relationship. So, you must also understand the importance of friendship, to a reserved person like my Disciple as well, no?"

Understanding what Yae Miko is hinting about, Thoma quickly replies:

"Of course, Lady Miko. I would never betray Akira. While me and him have only been acquainted for a short amount of time, I find him as even a brother."

While yes, Thoma quickly replied, what he said was the truth. He did see Akira as not only as a friend, but a brother.

Hearing Thoma's reply, Yae Miko nods a few times satisfyingly. She then says with the same tone and smile:

"That's good, it seems like you understand what I mean. Well then, I hope you can keep this talk of ours a secret as well, okay? After all, this is also a manner of trust."

Thoma readily replied, which made Yae Miko hum and excused herself since she had to do something important.

A weary sigh came out of the retainer, dreading the future of having to encounter the Guuji more to be able to converse and meet with Akira.
