Capítulo 97: Taking over part 2
Max waited for some time while sitting and having some food and drinks. The rest of the troops and the commander figures were on full alert mode. They saw that their force was winning but the final outcome was not clear. After some time Alexandria's forces started to come back with exclamations of victory. The soldiers on the gates cheered for the people that defended the capital with their flesh and blood. Many people that came back were carrying wounded soldiers. Some of them were with cut limbs or a sword, spear or an arrow stuck in them in different location in the body. Max saw Valeria and the troop that were also coming back. When he saw that his elite troop did not have any losses he heaved a sigh of relief. They were good enough to not die by the hands of apprentices at least. Max ordered: "All troops except the ones that are guarding the walls rest well this night. We still need to free the cities of our country that were taken by the enemy. Tomorrow morning we will send forces to take over the different cities of Alexander's country. You did a good job! Today the cooks will prepare a special meal for you! Dismissed! Valeria, Alisher and Peter you come with me!"
The night at Alexandria was very lively. The people prepared for a long war where they will maybe need to starve for food for days. Suffer from cold and maybe even some diseases like their parents told them happened in the wars they heard about before. In their case they won the fight and from their relatives that were the soldiers of the army that took part in the fighting made sure to explain to them that the enemy will not come back because most of the enemy forces were annihilated by them. Some were burned to death, some were shot or killed by a sword or other way and a lot of them were just chased until they fell in battle.
Those people got a lot of respect from the citizens. Citizens gave those soldiers food and other small presents to thank them for their hard work. When people face the danger of death different people feel a connection that is much bigger than in normal times. Also there were stories around the capital talking about the king ambushing the elite knights of the enemy force and after that using different magic skills to kill the mage apprentices from the enemy force. After that his elite force brutally decimated everything that stood on their way. A lot of soldiers confessed that if they did not accompany those groups of elites they would died or got injured in much higher rates.
At morning Max gathered Valeria, Peter and Alisher.
Peter and Alisher congratulated Max: "Your majesty, congratulations for your glorious win yesterday!"
Max shrugged it of and said: "If they could not win with such advantage then all of my resources spent on those people were for nothing. Alright I don't really know the different cities of the country. We need to send forces to those cities to take them back. I don't want the enemy to do some crazy shit over there. We can keep those guys there. I can just create another elite troop here. It will be less big but it should be good enough. Can you tell me the names of the bigger cities?"
Alisher as the army commander said: "We have 8 main cities at the country: Manchester, Ironhold, Stormwatch, Emberfall, Starhaven, Crimsonport, Silentwater, Ravenholm. Around those big cities there are different villages and smaller cities. I advice to take the army and take over the one by one. It will give us the least amount of losses."
Max shook his head and said: "No. We will take 100 elites with one more thousand of knight apprentices from the elites there should be three wind and fire mages and two earth and water mages. All the rest should be knights. There should not be a problem to take over the cities. We destroyed most of the elites of those countries already. Those soldiers should go and take over the cities and ensure that those cities are protected and the law is reinforced. Those forces should stay at those cities. They could take watch and continue with their training and wait for reinforces. We need to have a message received from those cities after a successful capture and another one every week. Is it possible?"
Alisher said after some thinking: "Well with mail pigeons it is no problem."
When Max heard about the pigeons he smiled and said: "Then there are no problems. I need the 900 best knights that were after the one I chose to come to the gaming club today to get them to the knight rank. You both should train at your free time and be able to defeat the level one copy of yours. It is the bare minimum you should be able to do."
"Yes, your majesty." Said both commanders before departing. The capital returned to its normal operation. People came in and left freely with only a check at the entrance gate. The only thing that changed was the fact that the people that stood at the gate were not knight apprentices but knights and on the three city walls of Alexandria there was always a fire mage present inspecting. This change caused a lot of shady people to calm down after a few incidents where some adventure teams tried to go forward in line or other criminals tried to make some trouble at the entrance when the guards wanted to check them. It happened in one of two ways. The instructions for the elite forces were clear. If anyone does things against the law give them one warning if possible and than act. If its not possible than act without any warning. If there no real danger for other citizens it is better to arrest those people, take a hefty fine from them and throw them away while putting them in the black list of the city. They will not be able to get into the city in the future. Some percentage of this fine will go to the guards that protected the city walls in this shift. The black list will be sent to the other cities and those people will be blocked from the other major cities as well. As for the city protection. There will be a force of 100 elites patrolling the city in shifts with lower ranked knight apprentices at all times. Those people will have a special uniform and citizens could come and ask for their help. Also if citizens see that those people act in a barbaric way they could come and tell about it to the authorities and those people will be punished harshly. Abiding the law was an important thing to Max. After giving the command to do the same things in the smaller cities when they will be taken back to Alisher with exact commands Max told all of this to Alexandria's citizens to make the people that are connected to criminal acts to calm down and lower their heads. The citizens were happy. There will be a lot more safety around. Max emphasized that the people that will break the law will have to suffer the full consequences if they are nobles or commoners. Everyone are the same before the law.
Some people thought that it was all said to make the people happy but when some of the prideful nobles that tried to enter the city with no check at all were detained and had to pay huge amount of gold coins to not get blacklisted and other high level mercenaries that were not used to being checked made trouble for the guards were killed before the eyes of everyone and some of them were burned to death by fireballs shot from the city walls by the mage apprentice located on it people really started to get the point. Max was not joking and the powers he put into making sure his commands were followed were not joking as well. At the next morning groups of 100 elites with 1000 knight apprentices were sent to take over the 8 major cities of the country under Max's control.
