We scattered like bugs, hoping that no one saw us with Christian. Unfortunately, we weren’t so lucky. Someone saw us and called the police—lucky us.

Even though Dad said to act natural, that was easier said than done. Ever try to act natural when the police discover a dead person with whom everyone had an issue? That wasn’t happening.

There was a knock at the door.

Mom answered it. /"Officers? Can I help you?/"

/"Ma’am, we have a report that someone saw your husband and daughter at a crime scene,/" an officer told her.

/"Say what now?/"

/"Is your husband and daughter home? We have a few questions for them./"

/"Hang on./" She gave them a sweet smile, then turned and yelled, /"Mackenzie and Isabella! Can you come here?/"

I came out of my room with Andrew. Dad came out of the kitchen. We stopped as soon as we saw the cops.
