Chapter 131: The old war
Oren chuckled.
"I merely took what little was left alive on this island and gave it a chance to thrive in this hostile territory. They also serve as guardians of my island. They are programmed to hunt down any intruders."
Before Vivi had a chance to start yelling at her, she started talking again.
"They made us believe that they were sharing those weapons with us, for our protection…how foolish my grandfather was…" She lamented.
"Your grandfather was the kind-looking man with a mustache. But then…"
Vivi recalled the young blonde girl that was always at the ruler's side, like his granddaughter. She looked at the screen and for the first time, noticed that the beautiful emerald eyes on the old lady were the same ones.
"You are that cute blonde girl?!" Exclaimed Vivi.
Oren laughed loudly.
"I was quite striking, huh? I did receive my fair share of compliments back then…"
"But if that was you…" Vivi looked around but that other girl was nowhere to be seen.
"Who was that other girl? the one that was here before?"
Oren gave her an intense glare.
"You know what my specialty was…what do you think?"
Vivi did not have to think much, the answer came immediately.
"You made clones of yourself?... that's why you called her a doll."
"She is a failure, unfortunately. All of them are… They all look like me, but there is always something missing. They are just empty husks that only work on direct orders. They have no autonomy and are incapable of doing anything by themselves. That's why they are failures…"
"I see…" Vivi did not know what more to add.
Oren cleared her throat.
"Let me continue the story, we are almost at the end. 1000 years ago, the King of the Lunarians, a tall and strong man called Ubal, decided that our full cooperation and access to all of our runes and magical knowledge was not enough. They wanted to know how we made the God Tree. They planned to make one for themselves…"
"They wanted to make a God Tree?"
"Of course! Who wouldn't want to have their own God protecting them? But we refused their request. The formula to create the God was promptly destroyed after its creation." Explained Oren.
"Why would you do that?" Asked Vivi.
"As I said before…creating Shaddai was our greatest accomplishment but also our most terrible deed. I don't know the details since there weren't any remaining documents about the formula used. But I do know that a magical ritual was used for its creation. A ritual that involved a lot of sacrifices" Oren looked distressed while telling this.
"You are talking about human sacrifices…" Said Vivi with horror.
"A lot of ritual sacrifices…both humans and Ix, killed in most horrific ways… that's why we refused to let the Lunarians know about it."
"And since they could not get their hands on the tree, they went for the fruit," Vivi concluded.
Oren nodded.
"That fruit was meant for me. I was chosen to be the next ruler. I learned everything from my grandfather and was ready for the job…but they took that from me, and you have seen the rest."
Vivi nodded.
"The King and many of the other Lunarians died. The wife activated Uranus and destroyed the castle, killing most of the people."
"Yes, they turned those weapons against us. But we were not defenseless. Neptune managed to get away, Pluto was destroyed by our war golems, and Uranus…well, you saw what it did. At least it cannot shoot very often. We still lost that war…" Oren lamented.
"What happened then? were there many survivors?." Asked Vivi.
"I and some of my most loyal soldiers came to take refuge in my private laboratory, where you are right now. As for the rest…I don't know. I'm sure that some of them ended up escaping to some other islands. At least some of them ended up in Wano since they created more poneglyphs using our runic magic and language."
"The rio poneglyph was created by the survivors of this island?... that's quite something. But none of this explains how you ended up in my world and brought me here".
"I spent the next few centuries preparing my revenge. I did not have the power of the God Fruit, so I had to resort to my knowledge of science and magic to keep myself alive. I did things that I'm not proud of in the name of revenge…but, after 500 years, I was finally ready."
Vivi did not know what things Oren had done to keep herself alive. But there was no further mention of the guards who went with her to the lab.
"I savaged what was left from our old Kingdom and used it to repair a group of war golems. I had been keeping an eye on the Lunarians from a distance since the war, using my little spy insects. They had settled up on top of the red line and created a huge city there"
"Shouldn't there be humans there at this point? The World Goverment was founded 800 years ago" Vivi pointed out.
"Indeed…I did not know about this at the time. I was too worried about being found out so I had to keep too much of a distance while using my spies to get a real close look at what was going on inside that city. I only knew that the Lunarians got there first and created it." Explained Oren.
"Since the World government still exists, I have to assume that the attack was a failure," Said Vivi.
"It was a disaster…I had truly underestimated that little bitch!" Oren spat with disdain.
"Who are you talking about? The Lunarian King's wife?" Asked Vivi.
Oren shook her head. "The daughter of the Lunarian King and the most dangerous being in this world…Imrah. She is the true ruler of this planet and a self-proclaimed Godlike being."
