Capítulo 65: Chapter 65: "The Cursed Treasury: A Story of Adepts, Dragons, and Treasures"

Several small carts had been separated by the various forks in the tunnels. As the most senior staff, Pull Ring and the other fairies were in charge of the deepest part of the treasury, where the most important items were kept.

A fire dragon was staring at the fairies. Its massive body was covered in scales, but the long years of imprisonment underground had caused these scales, which should have been tight and bright, to become pale and loose. Living in darkness for a long time had caused the dragon's originally blood-red eyes to degenerate. They were turbid and slightly lifeless, a sickly pink. Its two hind legs were shackled by heavy chains that were connected to huge stakes driven deep into the ground. Its wings, which were covered with spikes and could be used as weapons when necessary, were kept on both sides of its body. If they were unfolded, they would likely fill the entire room.

The dragon glared at the fairies with resentment, but it was of no use.

The fairies took out some small metal tools from their bags and shook them, producing a loud and clear clanging sound, like a small hammer hitting an anvil. The dragon, which had been fierce a moment ago, immediately quieted down when it heard the clanging sound. It cowered and retreated, its body trembling slightly.

Who said adepts didn't understand science? Wasn't this just a use of conditioned reflex? The fairies inflicted painful punishments on the dragon when it was young, and the clanging sound triggered the dragon's psychological trauma when it reached adulthood.

Even so, the dragon's hoarse roar out of fear still shook the fairies until they felt dizzy. The fairies slowly made their way to the door of the vault. One of the fairies placed his finger on the wood, and the door of the vault disappeared, revealing a cave filled with rare treasures from floor to ceiling.

Needless to say, there were piles of gold coins, pure gold wine cups, standard long swords and armor, furs of strange animals with spikes or drooping wings, and all kinds of precious magic potions of unknown uses. It was said that after the rebellion of the fairies was suppressed, they lost the right to use wands. A flicker of fluorescent light was enough to solve problems. Now, they had to use lamps to illuminate the dark places.

But in reality, this was a case of neglecting the essentials and focusing on trivialities. Gifted people like them often didn't need to rely on wands to cast spells. But now, they may have almost forgotten about their own talents.

The leader of the goblins looked at them and said, "Old rules. Pay attention to the other parts of your body and don't touch these things. Otherwise, you all know the consequences." After saying that, the goblins took out a pair of gloves and put them on.

For these valuable treasures, it was very necessary to add another layer of protection. Every object here was imbued with the Fire Curse and the Duplication Curse. When the two curses were combined, their power increased exponentially. If someone tried to steal wealth that did not belong to them, the hot gold or other valuable objects would endlessly duplicate and grow. Then, the thief would be left with two ways to die: being burned to death or being crushed to death.

The fairies, who had been dealing with these items for many years, had specially made many special gloves for this purpose. The gloves were covered with strange patterns, and the unique craftsmanship and materials of the fairies could prevent the activation of incantations, making it easier for them to manage these items.

Pull Ring looked around. Almost at first glance, he saw the small golden cup that Draco had described to him. "Two finely processed pure gold handles. The body of the cup is carved with exquisite symbolic carvings. There is even a badger carved on it."

"You don't need to bring it to me. I only need you to 'destroy' it." The difficulty of bringing it out and destroying it was completely different.

Even if they managed to bring it out in a moment of chaos, as every business of Gringotts was recorded in the records, they would definitely be exposed in the subsequent investigations.

Draco had only one request: "Let the liquid in the bottle touch the golden cup." Pull Ring didn't know what the liquid in the bottle was, but he knew he had to do as Draco said. If he said it was revenge, then it was revenge. It was said that this vault was the collection of the Lestrange family. These pure-blood families were too intertwined, so Pull Ring couldn't be bothered to care.

Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Pull Ring couldn't move. He could only slowly count the treasures and wait for the right time to act.

The golden cup that was shining under the three spotlights represented Gryffindor's sword in Pull Ring's eyes. Pull Ring tried his best to control his breathing to prevent the surrounding fairies from seeing his nervousness.

Even if he didn't take it away, he would still be damaging the employer's belongings. He couldn't do it openly. Moreover, who knew what was in the bottle? He had heard of something called a liquid bomb in the Muggle World.

Pull Ring, who had already decided to act, became even more cautious. He still had to try his best to stay out of it. He didn't want to lose this job.

Time passed, and the items Pull Ring had to check were getting fewer. He didn't have much time left. But the more time passed, the more he knew that he couldn't be anxious. He still maintained the same efficiency as the other fairies, carefully counting the treasures.

Suddenly, an idea flashed in Pull Ring's mind. "Travers, oh my god, look at the gold coins under your feet. You touched them." Pull Ring suddenly threw the wine cup he was counting to the ground and said in a panic.

"What?" Travers was also startled when he heard this. With a quiver, the gold coins in his hand that he was counting dropped onto his trousers. Disaster began to happen. "No!" Travers watched in despair as the gold coin began to replicate itself. Ignoring the pain from the burning, he tried his best to shake off the replicas from his trousers.

Other than Travers, no one knew if there were gold coins under his feet. It was obvious that he was in a terrible fix and couldn't care less about all this. "Let's go! We'll come back after the effect of the spell ends." The leader of the fairies made a prompt decision and was the first to rush out of the door.

If Draco was present, he would definitely "praise" this fairy for having the same behavior as the man with the surname Fan.

"Don't leave me behind!" Travers shouted in despair as he saw his former colleagues running out of the door mercilessly. He hoped that someone would help him. The place where the gold coins fell was his trousers. At this moment, he couldn't tell how much fabric was left as it had been completely melted by the high temperature. These impractical gold coins seemed to have taken root on his legs. Clattering sounds echoed. This was the sound of gold coins falling to the ground. But every time a pile of gold coins fell to the ground, more gold coins would be produced.

The blazing high temperature scalded Travers and caused him to scream. Billowing heat waves spread from his surroundings. No one was willing to save him because they might lose their lives. In the blink of an eye, apart from Travers and Pull Ring, no one was in the room. The gold coins continued to fill the empty room like a roaring wave. Travers, the pitiful fairy employee, was about to lose consciousness from the high temperature.

Pull Ring's face revealed a look of reluctance. His eyes were filled with hesitation and struggle. But at this point, the arrow on the bow had to be released!

Pull Ring fished out the glass bottle that Draco had prepared for him. After aiming, he threw it at the gold cup. The clattering sound covered the crisp sound of glass shattering. The pitch-black basilisk's venom immediately seeped into every part of the gold cup.

Pull Ring felt like he was hallucinating because of the high temperature. He heard a despairing and sharp howl. The bone-chilling coldness caused him to tremble violently. Even though he was currently in a terrifyingly scorching hot zone, he could still feel the curse and unwillingness that penetrated his soul.

Pull Ring stumbled towards the almost unconscious Travers. He used his thin body and slender arms to slowly drag this innocent victim out of the sea of gold coins. His undying conscience urged him to save this victim. Ten meters. Five meters. One meter. This distance was enough to be called the distance between hell and heaven for the two fairies.

At this critical moment, a few sprites who were slow to react finally reached out to help them. They pulled the two of them out of the original cave and quickly closed the entrance. "Huff huff." Pull Ring, who had survived, clutched his chest and gasped for breath. "We have to quickly report this accident to the president." The leader of the fairies seemed to have just recovered and hurriedly ran out.

The other fairies looked at the one who had been rescued with disdain. He had run faster than anyone else, likely feeling embarrassed to stay with them. The remaining sprites were enjoying their moment of survival after the disaster, but the dragon at the entrance breathed out a mouthful of turbid air and yawned, mocking their attempts to cover their heads and scurry away like rats.

Suddenly, a crack appeared in the cave entrance behind them, rapidly expanding. Through it, they could see a dazzling golden light. 'No, damn it!' the fairies cursed in unison, frantically crawling and running for their lives.

Fortunately, they had discovered the crack early enough to escape. But as the last fairy left the underground, the crack in the door suddenly expanded, releasing a golden torrent with an irresistible might and monstrous heat wave that rushed towards the tunnel. The giant dragon, who had been rejoicing in the fairies' misfortune, could only use its own flesh and blood to withstand the impact. The fairies did not offer to help it unlock the door. In that moment, the giant dragon likely hated gold coins more than ever before.
