Capítulo 31: Smart

"There are always rules that must be followed. Laws by which one should and shall abide, if they know what's good for them."

Those were the words that Vlad spoke to Enid after he was able to get her calmed down from her frenzied bout of expression.

"But you don't know what this means! I can feel it, D! I can feel it!"

As Vlad watched Enid grab and grope different parts of her body, he could not help the creeping thought that perhaps he was too hasty in his gifting of his blood to the little wolf. While he considers himself to be one of the greatest listeners in the world, that did not mean that he was prone to actually doing it and no matter how charming the girl was, she certainly knew how to talk once she got started.

Well, not his problem.

"Pay attention, Enid," he spoke out to her, grabbing her attention away from her fondling. "I understand this is a new sensation for you. In every way. That connection you have to your wolf will take some getting used to. Give it time, and grow to fully understand that part of yourself that you previously could not access."

He took a step closer to her and put on his serious face.

"However, understand this - you are now one of the few beings on this planet capable of doing what you will be able to. No other wolves that you've ever known, have been able to connect to their existence in such a way. Not your mother, father, nor your siblings and their pack. Only you." He was now standing directly in front of her. His head tilted to look down at her. "You are different. More powerful. Embrace it, but no matter what happens, do not believe yourself to be invincible. Always know, that there are stronger beings in this world than you...but fear not, there are none stronger than your Alpha." He finished with a wide predatory smile spreading on his face, that somehow still looked exceptionally handsome.

"What does that mean? Do I have to fight? Are these stronger "beings" people I need to be on the lookout for? Can I tell my mom that I can probably shift..wait...DEFINITELY SHIFT!!" Enid yelled at the realization that she just discovered. "As soon as I thought about shifting, I could feel it! It was like if I just flipped a switch, I would be able to become a wolf! How is that possible?! It's not a full moon! OMG! am I a badass!"

Vlad once again found himself watching Enid jump up and down, as he processed each of her rapidly fired questions.

As she fell back down to the floor, he reached out and grabbed her arms to hold her steady.

"It means live freely. There is always a fight to be had, in one form or another. Whether they are stronger or weaker, underestimate no one. Tell your mother what you want, though feel obligated to tell her nothing, you only answer to me. True werewolves can shift whenever they choose. You are now a true werewolf. You are stronger, faster, and your brain is far more efficient. Thus," he released her arms and took a step back. "You are a badass."

He could not help the small smile that played on his lips as he watched the excitement broiling up in Enid, as he prepared to watch her once again bounce up and down. He always knew her mind moved quickly. It would appear that getting used to dealing with her thoughts moving at a pace that she could not yet consciously match, would be no problem for her. No doubt due to her having grown accustomed to having very little chill 90% of the time. The term manic-pixie played on his mind...though, he discarded it. No need to label the excitable wolf.

With that matter done, he turned to his lovely one.

Their eyes met and he could see the cogs at work behind hers. Her thoughts a steady river, with a very smooth flow. The girl was a beacon of control, unlike her opposite, who was currently celebrating her newfound badassery.

Whatever thoughts flowed through Wednesday's mind were her own, and she did not seem to feel the need to inform the audience. Vlad watched as she went from contemplative and thoughtful to focused and decisive.

"To answer your question, it is not the fact that my father might have murdered someone, it is the fact that they sent me here uninformed of that fact." Immediately, he realized his mistake in thinking that he and his paramour were thinking along the same lines. The girl had her priorities. "As if I would not learn of the matter. Now, I. want. answers." She spoke with determination. He had to admit, he really enjoyed her look of single-mindedness focus. It was so very close to a pout that his incredibly imaginative mind could easily overlap the images.

"If its answers you want, then its answers you shall have." Vlad flourished his right arm out to his side and then brought it at a bend in front of his waist and did a bow. "Good luck." And then, he was gone.

Wednesday stood there for a moment, looking at the spot where her Vlad had just stood. For a brief moment she thought that he was about to say he was at her service, however she was fooled by his elegant bowing.

Nonetheless, she readjusted her perspective and then her direction and looked at her friend who seemed to be excited about rubbing something in her mother's face, though she was speaking too quickly for Wednesday to care enough to give her full attention. She had her own matters to rub into the faces of others. Specifically, - she looked down at the sheriff report in her hand. Her own matters, indeed.

Wednesday, without a single waisted movement or really even a conscious thought, flawlessly spun around and took the few steps back to her desk, where she sat down and began making notes of all that she knew about the case.

~ Her father had allegedly killed a boy with a sword. Unlikely, in terms of his character, but not in terms of skillset.

~ Despite being caught red-handed, her father walked free and clear. Suspicious, given the reaction she saw from the sheriff and the apparent hate he had towards her father. He did not seem to like the idea of her father walking free, so it is unlikely that he was bribed or knew of a bribe.

~ The fact that she was sent here, despite her father's not so illustrious circumstances with his attendance, can only mean that they either underestimated her ability to find out, also unlikely, or they did not care if she found out, still unlikely. The most probable circumstances would be that they simply sent her here and then decided to just wait and see what would happen, the most likely.

As Wednesday thought on the matter at hand, she could not help but stop and think for a moment, about how easily she was able to extract and organize different logical conclusions in her mind.

She had always been capable of deduction and logical reasoning, however it was only now that she realized that, while she could think logically, it would often be hindered or guided by her own subjective conclusions, rather than looking at a matter objectively and following all the information provided. Essentially, once she saw the most likeliest string, she would follow it completely, while disregarding the less obvious choices.

She allowed herself a moment to mourn her less than ideal conclusions she drew about her previous detective mind and chalked it up to her learning and growing.

Now, with that done, she began once again, examining the report and gathering her facts, while at the same time creating nexuses to the conclusions that were unlikely, but could not be completely discarded. She decided she would need to do something to thank Vlad for his assistance. Even if it was indirect. Maybe he would be interested in performing an autopsy on a body? Or hunting a criminal? Thoughts for a different time.

As Wednesday focused on her chosen objectives, Enid had finally calmed her ass down, and noticed the fact that D was gone.

'When did that happen?'

As soon as the thought was brought to her mind, her thoughts were off on the hunt for the answer.

She saw the events in the room rewind, as her mind supplied her with everything that her eyes saw and her ears heard, while she was hyped.

She saw D vanish in his super cool way. Then, saw him bow with his back to her, and was able to get a good look at that sweet ass. Then, she was able to see him looking at her in amusement, before turning he turned to bow and make his exit.

Her mind told her that those events happened about 46 seconds ago, while her nose examined the scents in the room and confirmed what her mind supplied.

She sat down on her bed. Her eyes wide and a little dazed.

"What the fuck!"

She yelled out, gaining the attention of her pig-tailed goth pack member.

She looked at her steady roommate who seemed to be consistently thinking on some overly complex matter and knew she found just the person to understand her current dilemma.

"Wednesday," Enid said seriously, "I'm smart as hell."
