Before Emilia's body plummets downward, she feels someone sink their teeth into her scruff and pull her out of danger. She opens her eyes and sees Dietrich's black wolf form standing in front of her with squinted eyes. She acts without thinking and licks his cheek as a sign of gratitude. Dietrich stumbles backwards with wide eyes and a shocked expression.
Emilia shifts back as Isaac catches up to them. "Wh-what happened? Where did all the b-bears go?" He asks while trying to catch his breath. Dietrich shifts and gives Emilia a pointed glare after regaining his composure. "Your sister tricked them into falling over the cliff. At the risk of her own life, of course." He adds with disdain. "What would you have done if I didn't get here in time to pull you up? Let me guess, allow yourself to fall and die." Dietrich growls angrily. "I'm sorry.. I was just trying to get them away from the manor, I didn't think-..." Emilia gets interrupted by Dietrich. "Exactly! You didn't think!" He scolds her.
Emilia doesn't speak as she turns away and runs back toward the manor. "Dude… She was just trying to keep everyone safe. Why so harsh?" Isaac asks. "Because she nearly got herself killed! Who cares if the bears had gotten into the manor, at least we could've fought them off. But no, she had to play the hero and nearly lost her life for the sake of playing that role!" Dietrich shouts back. "Dietrich, she may not have been raised as a royal, but she does have the mindset of one. You know better than most that our duty is to protect the civilians, even at the cost of our own lives." Isaac points out.
Dietrich sighs, feeling like an idiot once again. He runs after Emilia with intentions to grovel and beg for forgiveness, again. He follows her scent, expecting for it to lead to the gates of the manor. However, her scent shifts and mingles with the smell of another and disappears thirty feet away. He stops and looks around but nothing else seems amiss excluding. No signs of a fight or struggle. So where did Emilia go and what happened to her scent?
He listens carefully for any sounds that may lead him in the right direction. That's when he hears it, Emilia's angry voice yelling and shouting in disbelief. Who is she talking to though? And what about her scent vanishing right after mingling with another's? He approaches the direction of her voice with caution.
"No Jak, you need to tell me why the hell you are here! Why does it seem like everyone from that pack is suddenly losing their minds and stalking me?! Can't you all just leave me alone?" She shouts. 'Jak…Why does that name sound familiar to me?' Dietrich asks himself as he inches closer. "Emi, listen. We can talk about all of that later. Let's just get out of here first, okay?" Jak pleads.
"I thought I heard a rat squeaking, turns out I was right." Dietrich says as he reveals himself. Jak seems taken aback and scared as he sees Deitrich. "Don't worry about him, Diet. Let's just go home." Emilia says as turns away from her ex-boyfriend. Jak grabs her wrist without thinking, resulting in a warning snarl erupting from Dietrich's mouth. He releases his grip on her arm and backs away a little. "Come on Emilia, this isn't your home. You barely know these people. You know me though, I'm your boyfriend and best friend. Remember?" Jak insists. Dietrich's fists roll into balls in preparation to punch the other man if he says or does one more stupid thing. "EX-boyfriend, Jak. You dumped me, remember? Now I have enough going on and you made it very clear that all of these things that are happening to ME are too much for YOU to handle, so leave." Emilia says as she grabs Dietrich's hand and leads him back to the manor gates.
Jak follows them from a distance, obviously not getting the hint. Emila decides to just ignore him and carry on with her objective. No doubt that Winston informed her family of the bears and the near invasion, she knows she should probably go explain the results. Dietrich, on the other hand, is following along with a mix of excitement from holding hands with her and fury from being followed by his mate's ex.
Emilia releases Dietrich's hand the moment they enter the mansion. She runs into her father's office and leaves Dietrich standing outside with Jak. Jak looks over to Dietrich and sweat drips down his forehead as he shakes with immense fear. Dietrich watches the smaller male and laughs to himself. 'Pathetic pup.' He thinks to himself as he watches Jak quiver with fear and anxiety.
"Father, I've come to give you a report on the bear situation. I led them over a cliff on the other side of the woods. I'm not certain if the fall killed them all but I figured that it will at least slow them down enough for us to come up with a defense strategy as well as an evacuation route for civilians who are unable to defend themselves in case of the bears returning." Emilia explains. Dimitri's eyes shine with pride as he listens to her. "You did an amazing job dear. Are you alright though? You aren't injured are you? No offense darling but you smell of blood…" Dimitri says while wrinkling his nose. "I'm fine, just nicked my hand during the chance but it's nothing serious." She responds back.
Dimitri gives her a look that says he's worried but is not going to overstep. "If it's alright with you, I'll go clean the wound and have Vira take a look at it for me. Better to be safe than sorry, right?" Emilia says with a wink. "Yes yes! Absolutely, you're right Emilia. That's a great idea." Dimitri says, trying to hide his relief. "Oh umm, another thing. We seem to have another visitor from the Snow Pack. I'll send him in on my way out, do with him as you see fit." She says as she walks out of the room.
Emilia directs Jak and Dietrich to enter Dimitri's office and then heads upstairs. Dietrich gently grabs her hand to stop her. She looks back at him, her eyes swirling with an unknown emotion. Dietrich opens his mouth to speak but no words come out. She tilts her head and a strand of black hair falls into her face. The way he stares at the stray hair makes it obvious that he wants to fix it for her.
"Don't even think about it. That's way too cringy, even for us." She laughs and turns away. "Emilia, we still need to talk about that thing." Dietrich hints, not wanting Jak to know what he's referring to. "Do we? I thought we had already come to an agreement that it wasn't going to happen." She replies with a bored expression.
Dietrich releases her hand and watches her ascend the steps, retreating to her bedroom. What did she mean by that? It isn't going to happen? 'Does she mean to say that she's going to reject me after all? Or maybe she didn't know what I was referring to? This woman doesn't make any sense, one second she's sweet and the next she's like a robot devoid of any emotion.' He thinks to himself as he walks back towards the office.
Emilia returns to her room and plops down on her bed. "What am I supposed to do? What does he honestly expect me to say? Yes Dietrich, I am sexually attracted to you? But I'm not. Am I..? No, I'm not. It's just this stupid bond making it seem like I am. I don't feel anything for him, except maybe gratitude for helping me out of all these messed up situations." She thinks aloud to herself.
The sound of the door opening and closing makes Emilia jump up from her bed. She settles down when she sees that it's just Patrick. "What do you want?" She grumbles. "Well I was walking past and happened to hear you talking to yourself in here. Thought I might as well come inside instead of eavesdropping at your door like some lunatic stalker." Patrick shrugs. "You say that as if you aren't a lunatic stalker." Emilia quips in response.
Patrick rolls his eyes and sits next to her on her bed. "You know, just because you're frustrated about not being capable of understanding your own feelings doesn't mean you should take it out on me. Now tell me honestly, you're trying to figure out if what you're feeling towards Dietrich is because of the bond or your own feelings? Then why don't you just do a little test to find out?" He offers. "What kind of test?" Emilia asks while sitting up. "Well, that new guy is your ex, right? And I'm assuming the split is pretty fresh since Dietrich said it hasn't been long since you left your old home. There should still be some kind of feelings there, yes?" He asks.
Emilia stops to think. "Well, honestly all I feel towards Jak right now is anger and pain. He hurt me a lot. And what's worse, he did at the moment where I needed his support the most." Emilia explains. "I see, then it's pretty simple. Make a move on Jak." Patrick suggests. Emilia smacks him on the back of his head. "You're stupid. How would making a move on Jak tell me whether or not I have legitimate feelings for Dietrich?" She asks. "If you feel guilty about it then you have feelings for him. If you don't feel guilty then you don't have any for him." He points out.
"Also, stop hitting me damn it. That shit hurts, especially since you obviously don't know how to control your strength." He adds. Emilia rolls her eyes. "What if this plan of yours backfires and I get back with Jak?" Emilia asks. "Then I get to watch the Northern Prince writhe in pain from his mate's betrayal. It's a win-win situation no matter how you look at it." He chuckles. Emilia glares at him. "Sounds to me like you're the one who wins in every scenario while someone else loses." Emilia says with suspicion. "Tomato tomato." Patrick shrugs and leaves the room.
Emilia lies back down on her bed and thinks about her options. 'I mean, I guess I could do that. But then… Wouldn't I be doing the same thing that I just got mad at Dietrich for doing to me? Well, I didn't actually get to take my revenge on him for that yet. This could work. If he asks why then I can just say I'm leveling the playing field.' She thinks to herself.
She stays in her room while thinking of the best way to go about enacting this devious plan. A knock at her door startles her as she jumps out of bed. "Yes?" She shouts. "Miss, it is time for dinner. His majesty has asked the entire family, guests included, to join him at the dining table since lunch was skipped during the ruckus." Says the voice of an unknown male from the outside of her room. "Alright, I will be right down." She shouts back. She listens as the man's footsteps recede and then begins getting ready. She doesn't have much time so she changes into a simple grey t-shirt and some new shorts and then heads downstairs.
Emilia enters the dining hall and sees that everyone else is already seated. Only three options were available for her. The question is, does she begin her plan now and sit next to Jak? Or does she wait and sit next to Dietrich? Or avoid both of the men in question and sit beside Patrick? She looks between the three men and makes her choice quickly, sitting in the seat by Patrick.
"Coward." Patrick whispers in her ear. "Shut up, it's just not the right time for that. I'm going to do it, just wait." She whispers back. She looks up and notices Dietrich giving them an amused look. In his eyes, this probably looks like a wholesome sibling thing, sharing secrets with one another. If only he knew that this was actually part of a plot against him and not a sibling bonding moment. "You're strong physically but you're a weak wimp when it comes to facing your emotions." Patrick whispers, poking at Emilia. "Will you just shut it and let me enjoy my first meal with our family?" She pokes back. Patrick closes his mouth and sits straight, rewarding Emilia with the victory for now.
