“Distract me.”

Wishing Nyx would fuck me so I could forget all the intrustive thoughts in my brain, I knew that wasn’t an option right now. If only for a moment I could think of anything, everything else. But all my thoughts seemed to process was how much I wanted Adriano in my arms, thankful he was alive and well.

I was sick with worry about Adriano. How could I have let this happen to him? If we had only been faster, maybe we could have spared him a little bit of the suffering I’m sure he’s endured.

What if he was dead?

What if we were too late?

What now?

Adriano being taken by the other family and being questioned—being interrogated by the mafia—couldn’t be a walk in the park. I’m sure he was scared, even if he wouldn’t admit it. The unspoken truth between the four of us was Adriano was being tortured and there was nothing we could do about it.

This plan had to work. We had to save him.

But what did I know?
