Chapter Thirty
Nearing a week later, we’ve followed close to the shoreline, but have stuck with the safety of the trees. I have no idea what I did to anger Silas, but he’s been avoiding me this entire trip. Alek has been friendly toward me, but we’ve barely spoken with each other. I feel like the seriousness of this trip is getting to Silas. He’s been quick to anger and withdrawn. Alek has been acting as a buffer between us, which isn’t the best option.
On our last night, Alek is sitting next to me by the fire. He’s checking my stitches while I hold onto Kia’s head to keep her from trying to bite him. “Well, it looks like you’re healed. I’ve taken them out, so you’re safe for your swim tomorrow.” Alek informs me.
I turn to face him, catching sight of Silas staring at us. “Thanks. Hopefully, that’ll be the last time I need to have sutures removed.”
“What happens after this?” Alek asks, looking at Silas.
