I walked into the study and I found my uncle sitting near the burning hearth with a book in his hand, but he wasn’t alone. The Moon Priestess, the one who had presided over Gawain’s funeral back in the States, was sitting across from him.

“Ah, nephew,” the Laird Alpha said as I was let in by a guard. He gestured to a seat near them. “Have a seat. You remember Priestess Mother Alva, yes?”

The old woman smiled and gave a polite bow. I smiled and returned the bow.

“Of course,” I replied. “Greetings, Mother.”

“Well met, young wolf,” she replied warmly.

I took a seat and regarded them both with an attentive gaze. It was Mother Alva who spoke first.

“I have brought the results of the blood sample from your human mate’s hemoglobin analysis that you requested.”

She held a couple of papers in her hands. She didn’t hand them to me outright, which was good because I never understood the scientific mumbo jumbo.

“As it turns out,” he began. “Your mate possesses wolf DNA.”
