Capítulo 1: Yet Another Day.
Jason Sharp massaged his scalp and let out one more sigh. 'It truly is tiring' he thought, as he glanced at the mess of papers strewn haphazardly all over his workspace. The glaring light of the early morning sun, peaking through his window, did nothing to ease that everyday ache he felt.
It had already been 7 years since Jason earned his license to practice law, and that was all he had done. After the countless hours, he sacrificed to graduate at the top of his class and get a fantastic job, he was already weary of this dull routine. Now that didn't mean Jason had nothing that he had going for him. He was seated in one of the fanciest law offices in downtown New York, with secretaries and paralegals at his every beck and call. He had a fancy mansion and an expensive car. Moreover, as an excellent acclaimed civil rights lawyer, he supported and helped many families that required his aid. It was nothing short of the dream every child had as they grew up.
What Jason was tired of was the stale humdrum of the world. Nothing gave him satisfaction anymore - not the wealth, the admiration from his peers, nor the victories he earned in the courtroom. He was simply bored. All of his cases required complete devotion, so he never had time for anything else. He didn't have a partner waiting for him at home. He didn't have a good relationship with his father - his only family. He was missing something from his life.
Jason grew up in an abusive and low-income household. His father turned to alcohol after, his mother's passing and grew more violent every day. He learned of adversity and hardship from young and always kept the lessons he learned at heart. He ignored the physical and mental pain he suffered continuously and strived to become someone who mattered. His struggle with poverty, abuse, and neglect only served as steps to help him reach the position he had today.
Nonetheless, unlike the other unlucky children growing up with similar circumstances, Jason did not have much emotional baggage. He even believed that if he hadn't suffered so much, and rather grown up in a loving and tight household, he wouldn't be the person he was today. Yet, after 34 years he started to feel the challenge of the world slowly expire. There was no more struggle that egged him on - he felt little purpose anymore. His situation could be summarized with 3 simple words, ' he was bored.'
The current case that he was working on was basically done, all that was left was the decision by the jury.
With little else to do, he slowly slouched over to his bookshelf and browsed through the titles on their spines.
"Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," he murmured and picked it up. He wiped off the dust and had a slight smile as he remembered all the wonderful memories that this series provided him.
The Harry Potter series was one of his greatest memories. It was his one true abode as a child. He recalled the sound of his drunk fathers' faltering footsteps, the familiar embrace of the dark closet that he hid in, and the books that let him escape his reality into a wonderful world of fiction. He remembered some of his cringe-worthy memories as he used to place a book under his pillow and wish he would enter the world of wizards and witches in his dreams.
Jason sat back on his chair and slowly flipped through the pages. The cool gentle breeze from his sky-high office window perused the room. It was early morning and although he had woken up hours ago, he felt his eyelids become heavy. The slow drowsy atmosphere pervaded the room. It was only a few hours later that Jason was quietly snoozing atop the book on his desk.
