100% Mastering mind magic in Harry Potter / Chapter 11: Visiting muggles

Capítulo 11: Visiting muggles

The fourth and last thing of importance that happened before my seventh birthday was something I needed to explain my knowledge of everything muggle.

I asked to go to the muggle school.

I argued that it was boring to stay at home all the time, and that I wanted to learn about the 'weird stuff' the muggle could do. I also said it would be fun to report about muggle things in my newspaper. That, if anything, seemed to make my father smile.

Of course made it happen for Luna too, she needed to be with her favourite bro. In the end I didn't really need that much convincing considering it would allow my mother more time for her experiment without having to monitor us (and thus, distract her). She also realised it would give us some basic education in various subjects that she did not necessarily know well (science was not really her thing, even if she understood the concept).

I also managed to convince my parent to falsify my birthdate so that I could be in the same class as Luna. Honestly, they couldn't care less. So from the point of view of the muggle administration, Luna and I were twins.

When the Patil twins learned of our new plan, the sisters wanted in too. After all, it would allow them more time with us, and it was better than stay at home playing right ?

Ginny tried to come with us too, but well... Molly Weasley happened. For someone of the 'light' faction she could be pretty bigoted against muggles.

So Ginny would only play with us during weekend or after school.

So for the following year (it was decided to go for one year first and see if there was a point in continuing) we would all go to 'Garden Suburb Junior & Infant School', in London.

This is why every schoolday morning, Padma and Parvati would come to our home so we could all go to school together.

Needless to say, the muggle culture hit them and Luna like a 'horseless carriage'. It was also hard for me to act surprised to various stuff. But after a few weeks, I just needed to say 'I read it in one of the muggle books' and I was good to go.

Still, the muggle school was a good thing. Education in the wizarding world is surprisingly light. The parents are responsible for teaching their children to read and write, some basic maths, and that's it. Everything else is a bonus.

It didn't really come as a surprise when I learned that family history, etiquette, dance and a social activity (singing, playing an instrument, ...) while not mandatory, is also expected to be taught.

On the other end, science is a no go, as well as muggle history. I was pretty surprised that my parents knew very little about muggle Britain, or even muggle Europa history. They knew about the two great war in passing, but only because there was an impact toward wizarding community.

There were some history books in the library, but they were pretty light, and nothing about the 17th century and later. Why you may ask ? Simple, the statute of secrecy happened in the beginning of the 17th century.

So this is why I was REALLY happy to go to school and to be taught what I considered the basics.

*** Kid's Playground - issue 12 - muggle section ***

Hello, it's your favourite newspaper editor, Aelius Lovegood !

As you all know if you keep reading my articles, it's been two weeks already now that my sister Luna (and your bestest favourite reporter and illustrator), and my two friends Parvati Patil and Padma Patil have infiltrated the muggle 'Garden Suburb Junior & Infant School' and created this new section on muggle things.

Once again, we discovered weird stuff and it's my pleasure to talk about it. While last time we talked about the pen that can alter between four colours (I still find it funny) and their surprisingly big choice of 'car' (I still don't get why there are so many different kind, but fear not, for I am looking into it), this time we will be talking about an entire branch of teaching.

Muggle have an entire subject taught in school were they learned why thing happened the way they do, it's the so called 'science'. For example, we learned this week that the reason we breathe air is to gather things for our body, and when we exhale, there is less thing in the air. I won't go into detail but it's pretty interesting.y

This subject is divided in various sections. There is 'medicine' which is a muggle version of the healing arts, there is 'physics' which is about the world natural laws, 'engineering' is about making muggle contraption like 'cars' and 'plane' (we are too small for this yet but I learned what is was by asking) and lastly 'informatics' (at least I have yet to find more for the moment). The last one was very complicated but if I understood right, they have some kind of contraption called a 'computer' that can do lots of things (I'm looking into it for more details) and 'informatics' is about learning to talk to it (because apparently they created something that don't speak English, but they speak 'binary' and 'C').

Most of the thing I mentioned is pretty important in the muggle community and they all learn at least the basis of it all. And while I'm interested to learning some of it (if only to understand what muggleborn will talk about when I meet them at Hogwart) I realised something very important in my opinion : they ALL learn the basis of healing art.

Muggle kids our age, learn the very basics about the human body (and will continue to learn about it more during their schooling from what I was told by my muggle teacher), but we, wizards, only learn about healing if we take an apprenticeship at St Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries. That means we only learn about it after we're 17 ! That's super old.

At Hogwart, they only teach how to brew potions, but not how to find which one you need to take, or even what does the potion do.

Why don't we learn this at Hogwart ? I mean... It seems pretty important right ? And if muggles start learning about it at 6, we can at least start learning it when we start school at 11 right ? Or are we more stupid than muggle ?

Thank you for reading !

Unlike what I had expected, I did not write at all during my holyday for a simple reason : I was sick as fuck. It was so bad I did not even eat the chrismas dinner :'(

So no bonus chapters, sorry.
