The two vampires stared at each other for a long time. Only the sound of the crackling firewood in the fireplace was heard, as wild fire danced inside their eyes.
The first one to break the silence was the younger one.
"You are not a person who would do that, Grandfather," Ryan said softly.
Who knew his grandfather better than him? Ryan was probably the only vampire alive at the moment who spent more than a hundred years by his grandfather's side.
The severity of Lord Marcus Caldwell's speech by far exceeded the manner in which he acted against those who displeased him.
"I will do it if it means saving my grandson's life," Lord Marcus Caldwell pointed out. "Don't test my patience, Ryan."
Ryan shook his head.
"I do not mean to. My feelings for him are genuine, Grandfather."
"No one is questioning your feelings for him," the elder vampire snapped in displeasure. "But I do wish that your feelings were as shallow as the garden pond outside."
