Capítulo 10: SCP-3288: Part 10, Survivors

Limbs locked in place. Wanting to move, but unable to as The Empress skulked slowly towards her pray that seemed more like a deer stuck in the headlights rather than a hardened veteran anomaly hunter. Top felt a cold droplet of sweat slowly crawl down the skin of his face as gravity relentlessly pulled it to the ground.

She came closer, slowly, sniffing the air, savouring the final moments before she run her knifed fingers through his tough flesh and spilled his soft guts out over the uneven floor.

"Wakka, Wakka" came a soft hushed whisper over the almost still air within the cave from Top's radio.

The Empress froze, her eyes darting from shadow to shadow, her pupils in vertical slits trying to see her new pray. Top didn't move, unable to comprehend what had happened.

The voice came again, slowly and more deliberate, a bit louder.

"Wakka...Wakka..."

Top couldn't help but let the smirk slowly spread across his face as hope filled his heart. Wakka Wakka was a code used by S.C.P. M.T.F.'s when entities were in hearing distance of a member and another member needed a clear shot, and Wakka Wakka meant that someone, behind or in front of Top had a shot on The Empress, but Top was in the way of the bullets path and the code was telling him to move and keep his mouth open like pac-man to equalise pressure inside him from the bullet type they were about to fire.

Muscles in his legs began to twitch and quiver. Life at last! Movement! Top painfully forced his protesting muscles to push himself to the left but his strength left him and his body crashed to the hard jagged floor, and the familiar sound of the gunshot echoed through the darkness, the flash came from behind where Top had been stood, and an electrical round slammed in to the skull of The Empress and burst in to sparkling light as lighting erupted and consumed her life force. Her smouldering and smoking corpse slumped to the uneven floor and twitched once, and then twice and then remained still forever more.

Top's ears rang from the shot that was deafening in the close confines of the stone hewn corridor, he never heard the scrapes and patter of feet against the floor edging closer to his prone form. Slowly, two dark hunched over figures crept closer, They could see Top's chest moving up and down, but nothing else showed motion.

"Hell Born?" came a whispered question from the lead shadowed figure.

Top simply made a strange noise, the best his throat could manage.

"Mandrake?" came the whisper again, bearing a small note of grief.

The mere mention of his team sent a surge of tingling feeling through his limp and motionless limbs. Grief, loss, anger, fury, vengeance, whatever it was, it was fuel for his body and with new found energy, Top moved his fingers, then his toes, then a leg, bending his arm at the elbow and eventually working his jaw and voice box. His limbs spasmed in jerking motions and then remained still.

"Yes." a squeak was all he could manage when he finally remembered how to speak.

The two dark figures gathered around Top, their clothes as black as tar at night. The lead figure, who took to whispering lifted something from their face and a green glow erupted over their skin as they removed their night goggles from their seal. "Top? Good to see you alive, where are you hurt? Needles, check him over." the second figure obediently knelt next to the stricken form of Top, looking him over with their goggles still in their sealed lightless position, feeling his limbs and placing Top in to the recovery position. After a long moment, Needles eventually nodded to themselves and spoke for the first time, Her voice was so soft and warm in the cold bitter of the cave. "He has F.P., I just need to find the right nerve to sort him out. Here... hold..." she said warmly, Top felt the pang of shame and embarrassment as the medic turned him closer to the Rookies Team Leader; Bible, he thanked the abominations hatred of lights as it hid his reddening face. Fear Paralysis was something Top had mocked in his past, his past where he had taken on red skinned Demons, secured a zombie outbreak at Site-61, Hunted, Captured and Escorted SCP-096 and had even been present when SCP-106 was in containment breach, he never actually touched gloves with 106, but he saw the aftermath when it was finished with one of its D-Class meals. Fear was something he knew well, something he could control. What had this abomination done to him to force the paralysis on him? He could feel Needles jabbing her fingers in to the nooks and crevices of his bones and muscles, but he just couldn't do more than wiggle his fingers or toes, he had lost the ability bend his elbow as he had done previously

Fuck. I hope it isn't permanent.

"Hang... on... yep... oop!" said Needles to herself softly as she felt the muscles in Top's lower thoracic spine, just above his lumbar, she pressed her fingers in sharply and suddenly a roar of pain was upon Top's lips, and he brought both hands up to cover his own mouth to prevent a yelp echoing throughout the hostile cave. Top jumped to his feet, and backed away from the two soldiers, knowing they are friendly, but linking the current pain he was feeling to them, and distanced himself slightly from the two. "Thanks... i'll be fine, just... need a minute." he spluttered through gritted teeth. Needles took to her feet triumphantly and smiled "Another happy customer, I hope you have good medical insurance, because, I ain't cheap." she quipped amused at Top's reaction.

Silence filled the room, thick with anticipation as Top paced back and forth soundlessly. Only when he eventually spun his back from side to side and the bones let out an almighty crack was the silence broken and the sound of cracking bones bounced from wall to wall, echoing down the dark badly carved lazy corridor.

Crunch, crunch, scrape, crunch. The noise came softly at first, from where Top had come from, the corridor that led up to the house. Slow footsteps and the sound of wet material dragging against a hard jagged and sharp surface. Needles nodded to Bible.

"Needles, keep left, I'll go right, Top, you stay... there and cover us." Bible said whilst pointing to the decrepit rotting dining table. The lazy footsteps came closer, or was that the echo of the feet? A soft groan came from the shadows.

Top froze once more.

Needles and Bible moved in to their positions and readied themselves for the combat soon to ensue. Top could only just make out their dark figures in the darkness, but wouldn't turn his torch on as to keep himself hidden from any other eyes, he depended upon The Rookies night goggles to alert him of any skulking enemies. The groan came again and Top knew he recognised the voice.

"Jester!" he whispered harshly, hope swelling within his chest. Bible and Needles froze and they let the sound of Top's hushed voiced carry over the thick stillness of the air.

A long moment passed, it couldn't have been more than half a minute, but it felt like forever before a voice came back, just as hushed.

"Top?"

Bible and Needles surged forward suddenly as a staggering figure came in to their green view. Jester came in to sight holding his left arm, hanging lifelessly in its socket, he had a large clean cut across his chest, that didn't appear to be too deep, blood was turning his black uniform a darker crimson, but he was alive.

"I told you, like back when we hunted that creepy thing in the cult house, I'm too pretty for God to let me die." joked the weakly smiling Jester, Bible scoffed at the mention of God and placed his hand on Jesters shoulder to steady the wounded man. "Yeah, he works in weird ways like that. Shame he didn't think Halo was pretty enough to keep alive." Jester's smile faltered as he recognised the code name of the newest greenest member of The Rookies and nodded in understanding.
