Capítulo 6: Class F

Dax found himself at an old wooden cabin nestled away in the tree line. The sides of the building were overgrown with vines and the roof looked like it was on the verge of breaking. The windows were just open holes with no glass of any kind. Next to the door hung a sign. It was barely holding on as it only had a single nail holding it and it was vertical instead of horizontal. The sign read class F.

"When they said no resources, they weren't kidding were they?" A voice asked from behind Dax. He turned to look. It was an adult dressed in a professor's uniform, with short brown hair and blue eyes. "Welcome to Class F. I am your professor, Professor Teal."

"Hello." Dax replied.

"Now hurry inside." Teal said. "There are probably going to be a few more of you."

Dax made his way inside of the rundown cabin. Inside he found three more students. They all glanced at him as he walked in. The shame of their class assignment was still fresh in their psyches. Dax just quietly found an empty seat. He sat down with a heavy sigh. A few minutes later four more students entered with Professor Teal.

They all found seats and Professor Teal walked to the front of the class to talk.

"Alright." He said. "So, you are all class F."

The class just looked down hearted. They were all wallowing deep in their own depressed minds.

"So what?" The professor added. "You should be thankful you are in class F, not sad. You have been given the most amazing gift this academy can offer. If you manage to graduate, you will not only have proven yourself better than those who came before you in class F, but also better than those who were placed in the more elite classes.

Where they will get everything handed to them on a silver platter you will have a chance to outshine them through hard work and dedication."

"We are all going to be expelled." One of the students in the back said. She was a girl with long pink hair done up in pigtails. "It doesn't matter how hard we work."

"But it does." The professor replied. "Think about what the administrator said. If you mess up an assignment you lose points for your class and if you succeed you will gain points. You and class S are the two smallest groups in the school. It is harder for you to gain or lose points.

Class C is the most populated, and has its points value changed the most often. But, if you can manage to not lose any points and gain a few extras, it will be class A or C that get expelled, not class F. It is just a numbers game."

"Never lose points?" She replied. "We were placed here because we are failures."

"No, you were placed here because of whatever technology of the day did not agree with you." Teal said. "I hate to believe that is the best way to determine someone's worth."

"Are you sure you are a teacher?" Another student chimed in. He was a taller boy with short red hair and red eyes. "Isn't that kind of antithetical to the whole education system?"

"I get that." Teal replied. "No, I assure you I am a teacher. Just I think that we should judge people off of their work and not off of a computer."

"Humans are only capable of so much." The pink haired girl said. "The nanites enable humans to be more. We do not have that advantage. For all intents and purposes, we are just normal humans, we are nothing compared to those who can wield power."

"Did you know there was once a world without science?" Teal asked.

"Well, duh." The pink haired girl said. "But that was just people living in mud huts. I would hardly call that a life."

"Maybe, but there is a history even older than that." Teal said. "I'll teach you about it one day. The fabled legend of the Magi King. But that is for another day. Now let's get on with the introductions and then I shall give you all your first assignment. The assignment will be due in one week from today. Pink hair, why don't you start."

"I have a name." She replied.

"Yeah, and I don't know it." He replied. "That is why I want you to Introduce yourself.

"My name is Shell Ortag, my father is senator Ortag, perhaps you have heard of him." Shell replied.

"Good, now red." Teal said.

"Are you talking to me?" The tall red headed boy asked.

"Yes." Teal replied.

"Such nicknames are unprofessional; I still question your qualifications." He said. "However, I do see merit in identifying myself to eliminate any future worthless names. My name is Cali Front. My family runs an oil company. You may have seen some of our stores, they are Front oil. We are the largest producer of gas in the country."

"Alright whitey." Teal said.

Dax sighed. "I guess you mean me." Dax said.

"Good guess." Teal replied.

"I am Dax Caraway." Dax said. "My father is a minister in the government."

"Alright now you." The professor pointed to another female student with short green hair that had been held up above her head with gel.

"The name is Gee." She said.

"Any last name?" Teal asked.

"Just Gee." She replied.

"Alright…" Teal said. "Next." He pointed to another girl. This girl had long thick blonde hair and covered the sides of her head and her ears.

"My name is Elle Isik." She said. "My family provides food to most of the country."

"Okay, next." Teal said. This time pointing to a boy that was sitting in the back with jet back hair with his arms crossed and his feet on the desk.

"Pass." He said.

"Interesting name." Teal said.

"No, I am saying call on someone else, I pass." He replied.

"How about no." Teal said.

"Fine. My name is Al, but that's all you are getting." Al said.

"Friendly." Teal replied with a sigh. "Alright, how about you?" He pointed to another male student. He had a small build and pale skin with thick glasses. He had tightly cut brown hair and brown eyes.

"Kevin." He replied. "Kevin Gin."

"Okay. At least that is something." Teal said. "Last but not least." He pointed to the last remaining student. Another male, this one was large and muscular. He had a shaved head and a big smile.

"I am Alex." He said. "Alexander Coven. My family runs ninety-two percent of all the gyms in the country."

"Explains the build." Teal said. "Alright now it is time for your assignment."
