While saying that, Hui Mie stood up and went somewhere to arrange the things for Xu Shuang's and Ye Lingling's trial.
Meanwhile, Xu Shuang didn't know because of her interruption of the plot, a whole mess happened in the god realm, and a trial of a god-king is already waiting for her to accomplish.
Currently, they are sitting around a bonfire as they roasted big pieces of deer meat that Xu Jinshan hunted outside the sunset forest.
"Xu Shuang is it done yet?" Ye Lingling leaned on Xu Shuang as she asked while looking at the roasting meat with appetite.
"Wait for a while, it will be done soon." Xu Shuang replied with a smile as she rotated the meat and brushed an even layer of honey according to Sam's instructions.
A minute later, Xu Shuang took the meat off the fire and placed it on a plate as she took out a long knife to cut apart the roasted meat.
The roasted deer meat brushed in honey glistened under the flickering torchlight, its golden glaze shimmering like fairy dust. The succulent meat was perfectly cooked, with a dark caramelized crust that crackled at the slightest touch.
As the knife sliced through the tender flesh, a sweet aroma filled the air, like an enchanting melody that beckoned all who caught its scent.
The honeyed juices dripped down the sides, forming small puddles that sparkled like jewels in the dimly lit cave. With every bite, the flavors danced on the tongue, like a magical symphony that transported the eater to a mystical realm beyond their wildest dreams.
The three took deep gulps of saliva as they looked at the roasted meat, Xu Shuang didn't expect that she can make something like this, it looks like it came straight out of a fantasy novel.
But, it didn't feel so strange anymore when she thought of it deeper, Douluo Dalu is a fantasy novel so it has great ingredients that Earth doesn't have, and with her superior cooking methods from the modern era, she brought out the best flavors from the meat.
Enough with the nonsense, Xu Shuang thought as she divided the deer meat into three equal pieces, she then passed the plates to Xu Jinshan and Ye Lingling.
"Is this really something a human can cook?" Xu Jinshan asked as he tore a piece of the meat, and it came off surprisingly easy.
His eyes then lit up upon taking a bite of the meat, no longer being able to hold himself back, he quickly picked up a second piece, he didn't bother to waste time talking as he quickly ate.
Xu Shuang and Ye Lingling quickly followed seeing Xu Jinshan's actions, their eyes lit up as they took a bite of the meat, and just like Xu Jinshan just started to eat quickly.
Xu Jinshan quickly finished his plate, but he found out that there was no more food, and he was too embarrassed to ask for more so he just stayed silent.
A while later Xu Shuang also finished eating, she took a look to see that Ye Lingling was still eating, and looked like she was struggling to keep eating, so she asked.
"Lingling, if you can't finish it all, how about you give it to me? I'll finish it for you."
"No... I'll finish it myself." Ye Lingling mumbled as she quickly finished all the roasted meat and sat down in satisfaction as she rubbed her rounded stomach from eating too much.
Xu Shuang sighed in disappointment, but she was already nearly full so she also sat down on the grass while drinking the hot choco she prepared before roasting the deer.
While they were resting, two beams of light, one Green and one Purple, came down from the sky and struck them both, with Xu Shuang being struck by the purple one, and Ye Lingling by the green one.
Xu Jinshan quickly stood up to stop it, but it was already too late as the beams of light already formed a barrier around them, and no matter how he tried it was no use so he can only desperately hit the barrier while shouting.
But, the two people inside the beams of light didn't hear what he said as they were brought to a white space, or rather their consciousness was brought to a white space.
Inside the white space are two balls of light, one purple emitting a destructive aura, and one green emitting a healing aura. Just as the two were confused, the green ball of light lit up as it spoke.
"Don't be alarmed children, you were pulled here because you chanced upon a great opportunity." And without waiting for them to respond, the green one continued speaking. "You two are selected by two gods to be a candidate for being their successor."
"Successors?!" Xu Shuang and Ye Lingling were shocked and happy at the same time, shocked at what was happening and happy that they were selected.
But, Ye Lingling paid attention to one of the things said by the green ball of light. " Candidate? So does that means that there are other candidates as well?"
The purple ball of light lit up as it answered. "Yes, there are other candidates that will compete with you for the spot of the successor of a god, so do your best to achieve victory against them."
"What gods would be the ones that are interested in us to be their successors? Or at least be a candidate for one." Xu Shuang asked.
" I cannot tell you about that, but what I can tell you is that the two gods are a couple, so every competitor you have are also a couple, and the trials you will experience is needed to be done through the cooperation between the two of you."
"Now without further ado, I will be giving you the task you need to complete for the first trial." The two balls of light shot a beam of light into Xu Shuan and Ye Lingling as the two balls transmitted a stream of information to them.
Xu Shuang and Ye Lingling went quiet for a while as they processed the information given to them, they both looked at each other at the absurdness of this trial.
The trial is to hunt for their respective spirit rings, both rings needed to be from proper top-notch 10,000-year spirit beasts, after their hunt the ball of light will help them in absorbing the two spirit rings.
One can imagine the difficulty of this trial mission just by the words top-notch 10,000-year spirit beasts, those are at least equal to spirit saints even when they just advanced!
"How can anyone suppose to accomplish this task? Not to mention the question of defeating one, just finding one top-notch ten-thousand-year spirit beast is hard, let alone finding two!" Xu Shuang complained about the task.
"Don't worry, a door of light will open up in front of you after you two got out of this space, this door will lead to a top-notch spirit beast that is suitable for your attributes." The ball of purple light said.
"Well, are you up for the challenge?"
"Of course! What's life without challenges? Won't everything be bland and boring?" Xu Shuang accepted without hesitation as she indeed needed the challenge to see how strong she currently is.
"Hahahaha, well then, I'll send you out of this place, you can bid farewell to the guy outside, I'll wait for three days and then open the first door of light that will lead you to a plant spirit beast." The purple ball of light said as Xu Shuang and Ye Lingling got sent out of the place without any warnings.
When the beam of light that covered them went out, Xu Jinshan quickly walked up and checked if they are injured in any way, he sighed in relief once he found out otherwise.
"Are you two okay? What just happened?" He asked with worry evident in his voice.
