Olivia POV
I rose with the sun. A habit I’d gotten into when Hope was younger and needed attention at all hours. My internal clock adjusted accordingly, and it was rare that I didn’t see the sunrise.
Rolling onto my side, an arm extended, as it always did, searching for Ellis. My hand only found a smooth, cool sheet.
“Shit,” I cursed, my eyes still closed.
I opened them to be sure. As expected, Ellis was nowhere to be seen. He had come to bed the night before. The two of us stayed well to our own sides. I was mostly dazed by the FBI questioning and wasn’t up to much.
Ellis would never leave me without good reason. No matter what sort of terms we happened to be on.
The only thing that might make him do that, was the search for his older son. Whose name I couldn’t even bring myself to say.
