"All my efforts have led to this day..."
Leon began his graduation speech. You couldn't be more proud of him. He had been given the opportunity to give the speech and he had been agonizing over it to make sure it was perfect. You knew how hard he worked on it, it was just upsetting that Lena hadn't made it.
Everyone that loved Leon was present. His aunts, uncles, grandparents including Lillian had made it. You tried to catch his eye, hoping he wouldn't notice his mum wasn't there but it was unavoidable. He kept losing track of what he was saying and his eyes never left the empty seat.
You had tried calling Lena a thousand times, including calling her secretary but no one answered. You continued doing so all the way throughout the end of the speech. The graduation ended and still no Lena in sight.
Ignoring the looks they were giving you, you made your way to Leon. Hugging him and congratulating him on his hard work. He tried to seem happy but you could tell he was devastated. By the time pictures and congratulations were done, a limo parked in front of you.
Lena rushed out, practically out of breath as she reaches her family.
"Leon..I'm sorry.."
Leon forced himself to stop the tears and rushed to his car. He was sick of her excuses. They were always the same thing. Work held her up. She got distracted. There was traffic. None of that mattered. He felt stupid for believing that just this once, his mum would be there for him.
"Baby, I'm sorry. You have to underst..."
"Stop, Lena. I can deal with you ignoring me. I can deal with the late nights and all the excuses but this was your son. Don't bother coming to the celebration. It's not like you cared to come for his graduation anyways."
Your friends wanted to say something but kept quiet as they followed after you. You made sure to keep Lauren close to you as you got into your car and drove back to the house. Hoping to god that Leon hadn't gone somewhere else.
