Capítulo 36: 3.09

In the morning, Helena entered the new free clinic, payed by Izzie and created by Bailey. As she looked around, she was impressed by how fast it had been put together. Then again, it did cost her friend eight million dollars.

"Morning, Dr. Bailey. Everything looks great!" She told her resident.

"Thanks, Lena." She smiled at the girl, turning to all the interns. "Ok, welcome to the Denny Duquette memorial clinic. Baring any surgical emergencies, you'll be working here today."

"Working on... what?" Cristina commented, looking around at all of the empty beds.

"Right now, Olivia will be familiarizing you with the protocol for the flu vaccine."

Helena nodded, as Izzie turned around to find Alex playing with some equipment. "Oh, no don't touch that. That was seventy nine dollars."

"I have got to get out of here..." Cristina complained. "Burke has a bloodless pulmonary valve translocation flying in from Denver tomorrow, I should be preparing."

"Oh, you're not scrubbing in on that." The short girl told her.

"Why?" She asked.

"Cause I am." Alex told her, smiling.

As Olivia started showing the interns the flu shot protocol, Mark came through the clinic's door.

"Dr. Bailey! Congratulations on opening up the clinic. Morning, Lee." The man wished her, giving her a cup of coffee he'd gotten her.

"Morning, Mark. Thanks." The intern shot back, quickly taking the coffee and focusing back on Olivia's demonstration. Over the last week, the two had become closer, friends even.

"Someone's coming!" Izzie yelled, making Helena look back to see George and Callie walk through the doors. As Helena seemed to get excited, Izzie appeared disappointed.

"Oh, you guys are back!" She approached the couple, hugging them. "How was the vacation?"

"O'Malley, welcome back, you're late." Bailey told them.

"Seriously, what is it with everyone not greeting people they haven't seen in a week properly? I'm not asking for the hispanic two kisses, but a 'hi, how are you?' would be nice!" Helena mumbled to herself, soon noticing the couple's nervousness.

"Is O'Malley alright?" The Chief asked.

"We got married in Vegas!" He announced, everyone looking at them in shock. Helena's mouth opened slightly, not expecting the news. "We're married!"

At that, the brunette snapped out of her transe-like state, enveloping George and Callie into another hug. "Oh, congratulations! I'm so happy for you guys."

Callie's wide smile mirrored Helena's, as the intern hugged them on her tiptoes. "Thank you, Lena." The resident spoke up. "Means a lot."

"Dude, she's Callie O'Malley." Alex pointed out, laughing as the rest of the room remained quiet.

As Izzie talked to George, she must not have lowered her voice as much as she though she had, since Callie and Helena, chatting, could hear her.

"It's fast." The blond told him. "It's really, very fast." The Latina shot Helena a look, approaching the intern. "Are you even happy?"

"We're incredibly happy." Callie told her, pressing a kiss to George's lips.

"Oh, yay, great, yay." Izzie told her with a fake tone.

"Show them the ring." George nudged Callie, excited, the two interns turning to look at it.

"Oh, that's so great. Tiny diamonds are so great because you know no one will ever try to steal it." The blond said, a bitchy smirk on her face.

At that, Helena looked at her, slightly offended. "Well, I, for one, think it's beautiful and elegant. I'm not a the biggest fan fan of huge diamonds, if done incorrectly they can seem ." She shot back, Callie and George looking at her in gratitude.

After finding out Meredith's mother was lucid and in the hospital, Cristina and Helena were assigned to her, justified by the fact that the were the best interns.

As they preformed an echo, Ellis turned to Cristina. "You and Meredith are good friends. I can tell because you are afraid to look at me, as if I might ask you some personal question about her and you'll accidentally slip." She turned to Helena. "You, now, I haven't quite figured out. You're friends too, aren't you?"

"We are, yes." Helena told the woman.

"Has Meredith chosen a specialty?" The mother asked.

"That's a personal question?" Cristina asked.

"For surgeons, it's the most personal question of all. It tells you who they are." Ellis argued.

"My mother would want to know if I have a boyfriend." Cristina smiled.

"Your mother sounds like a frivolous woman."

"Mine would ask if I'm happy." Helena smiled at her.

" sounds sentimental."

"She is. She's intense too, though, ambitious." Helena told her friend's mother, charting. "She just believes that if you aren't happy, there's no point in unmeasured ambition."

"If I chose cardiothoracics what would that say about me?" The older intern asked.

"Heart surgeons are the know it all's. They're the most ambitious, the most driven. They want it all and they want it now and they don't want anything to get in their way." The woman answered promptly.

"What about pediatric surgery?" The short girl asked.

"Peds surgeons are often undermined. People tend to think because they work with kids, they are week or overly emotional. In reality, it's often the opposite. Peds surgeons are tough, strong and focused, it one of the most competitive specialties after all. All the peds surgeons I've met fall into one of two categories: they are either greedy and money-driven, caring more for money than the medicine itself or they are curious and compassionate, focusing on how medicine can help others." The woman looked at the short girl, almost looking through her. "Most surgeons I've met fell into the first category but I have a feeling you fit into the second."

The short intern smiled at the woman, impressed. "You're good."

"Meredith says I'm apart of an Alzheimer's research study. I want a neuro consult with the doctor that put me on the trial."
