Holly Adams POV:

More officers had arrived at the restaurant, and the patrons and staff had been detained for questioning. We also had paramedics standing by in case anyone suffered from any ill effects of the restaurant keeping a dead body in the freezer. King and I sat at a secluded table so I could interview him myself.

King sat with his hands clasped in front of him, with his eyes fixed on them. When he finally looked up at me, the first thing he did was ask a simple, reasonable question. “You’re a cop?”

“Corporal Holly Adams,” I finally introduced myself properly.

King took a deep breath. “So, all this time …?”

“I’ve been undercover,” I finished for him. “You can probably guess what my job was.”

“Yeah, I can.” King huffed a small laugh. “And here I thought it was my charms that kept you around An-Holly,” he corrected.
