"Oh, about that," Dante said flatly, acting as if the contract wasn't a big deal for him.
"That's it?" Scarlett immediately stood up and pulled Dante's shirt collar. "Dante Moretti! Do you know how important that contract is?!"
Dante, "It's just a marriage contract, not a contract that tells us to destroy a country. So, why do you have to be bothered by that?"
Scarlett smiled bitterly when she heard Dante's words. "You're still questioning that? The reason why I felt so bothered was that I didn't want to get married! Especially with you!"
Scarlett released her grip from Dante's collar, then walked back and forth in front of the man.
"Ever since I was a kid, they instilled in us the ideology that Lombardi and Moretti were mortal enemies who couldn't unite."
"Even when my grandfather was alive, he made an agreement with your grandfather to rule separately so as not to have frequent fights."
Due to an agreement decades ago, Lombardi ruled in the eastern Weisant, while Moretti in the western Weisant. Even so, the two still compete, although this time not physically, but economically and in terms of power.
Lombardi and Moretti both don't want to lose. Even if one of them is a little more successful, the other party will try desperately to catch up or destroy the other party's new achievement, so their position remains balanced.
The enmity and hatred between the two organizations were ingrained to the point that they had asked all of their newborn offspring to hate each other.
"But why am I finding this damn marriage contract now?!" Scarlett shouted at Dante, "Why is it that even though he's dead, my father is still trying to control my life?!"
Dante didn't say anything or perhaps didn't have the chance to speak because Scarlett constantly babbled and didn't allow her interlocutor to reply.
"His old lawyer even said, if I don't marry a son of Moretti, then I have to step down from the position of Boss! Bastard, how could I do that after three years of desperately running this damn organization!"
Scarlett then kicked the chair as a form of venting her anger. The subordinates around her didn't even dare to look at Scarlett because they were afraid she would also use them as solace for Scarlett's anger.
"No … no … I don't want to be ruled by that old bastard anymore." Scarlett gritted her teeth. "I'd rather shoot myself in the head than marry you!"
"Then do it," Dante said suddenly.
"What did you say?"
"Are you fucking deaf? I said do what you want. Shoot yourself, so we don't have to get married."
Dante's eyes were cold and emotionless. He only considers Scarlett's words as a worthless thing. He doesn't even care about her life.
If Scarlett wanted to kill herself, Dante would happily look forward to it. Because he also didn't want to be tied to the marriage, but just like Scarlett, he was threatened with having to give up the title of Don if he wanted to refuse the contract.
"How silly of you …." Scarlett let out a chuckle from her mouth. The laughter gradually grew louder and more uncontrollable until her voice echoed through the old warehouse.
"Instead of having to kill myself to escape the contract, of course, I'd rather kill all the male descendants of Moretti." Scarlett then walked over to Dante. "But how lucky I am, you happen to be the only male descendant left, so it's easier for me to cancel the marriage contract."
Scarlett took the gun strapped to her waist, then loaded her gun before finally pressing the end of the weapon against Dante's forehead.
"Don't feel bad, Honey. I killed you today to free us from our deceased father's restraints." Scarlett smiled. "The difference is, I will celebrate my freedom on earth while you are in heaven, but it seems you fit better in hell."
However, just before Scarlett pulled the trigger, she saw Dante flash a faint smile. From that smile, Scarlett felt that Dante had planned something.
Bang!
Gunpowder scattered when she pulled the trigger. However, there is no trace of blood, not even a skull with a hole.
Dante is still alive, not even injured at all.
It turned out that while Scarlett was talking, Dante had quietly removed his hands from the chains. Since the beginning, he only pretended not to be able to break free to let Scarlett's guard down.
When Scarlett pulled the trigger, Dante had already grabbed Scarlett's wrist and pointed the gun barrel up. In the end, the bullet pierced through the warehouse roof, making many wooden sides fall.
"The one who will celebrate in hell is you, not me." Dante gripped Scarlett's wrist tightly and snatched the gun from the woman's hand.
When Dante pointed the gun at Scarlett's head, her subordinates immediately took up the guns and prepared a position to shoot Dante.
"Stay away from Donna, or we will shoot you!"
Dante paid no heed to their words, his finger still on the trigger as if he was forcing Scarlett to bow before him. However, the woman showed absolutely no fear, her expression was as calm as a puddle of lake water, and her posture was still as relaxed as ever.
"Why don't you shoot? Didn't you want to kill me earlier?" Scarlett said, "But if you kill me, then I'll make sure you also go to hell with me."
Scarlett's subordinates walked closer and closer to Dante. They will also shoot Dante if Dante shoots, so both will die together in the end.
It was a dead end for Dante.
If the man shoots, then he will die. However, if he gave up, then he would also die.
Whichever choice Dante makes, he will die in the end.
Scarlett looked at Dante enthusiastically. She wondered what choice Dante would take to save his life. However, Scarlett didn't think the man would lower the gun in his hand and point the gun at his own head.
Dante said, "Scarlett, don't you ever try to fool me."
Dante's gaze locked onto Scarlett as he quickly pulled the trigger. Gunshots echoed once more, but neither bullets nor gunpowder came out this time. The only thing that came out of the gun was the wind.
Dante threw the gun to the floor. "You definitely wouldn't have loaded more than one bullet in anticipation of something like this."
"If I had shot you earlier, you would still be alive, while your subordinates would kill me."
Dante brushed back his wet hair with his fingers, making his heterochromia eyes visible. The green and blue colors in his eyes make Dante stand out from others, so he always becomes the center of attention wherever he goes.
"Scarlett, it took you a long time to kill me. Therefore, if you don't want to marry me, then you can die."
Scarlett chuckled. "You act like you want the marriage. Dante, do you secretly like me?"
Dante snorted, "Don't make me throw up. I'd rather marry a whore than you. However, the contract made by our father is inviolable. Even if they're dead, they must have a way of making sure we fulfill their final orders."
Their two fathers, of course, had many acquaintances who had significant influence in the underworld. Both the people Scarlett and Dante knew and the people they didn't know.
If Dante and Scarlett don't fulfill the contract and insist on being in the leadership seat, Dante is sure that they will meet death as the consequence.
"Then I must kill you tonight," Scarlett said.
Scarlett raised her hand, signaling her underlings to aim at Dante.
Instead of feeling scared, Dante chuckled and showed Scarlett a small black remote in his hand. "Who said I would die tonight?"
Scarlett's expression darkened immediately. She gritted her teeth while looking at the figure of her subordinate, who had previously hit Dante's head right after the man woke up. "Catch that bastard from Moretti!"
"Goodbye, Scarlett," Dante said as soon as he pressed the red button on the remote.
BOOM!
A loud explosion sounded from outside the warehouse. Dozens of small-scale dynamite exploded simultaneously, destroying several sides of the walls in the old warehouse so Scarlett could see the dozens of Moretti people raising their weapons at Scarlett.
Apparently, when Scarlett was talking to Dante. Dante's subordinates had secretly set up dynamite around the warehouse and planned to surround Scarlett when Dante pressed the button that would blow up the warehouse.
"Dante, my darling! You are amazing!" Scarlett clapped loudly when she saw Dante's underlings entering the warehouse.
That woman looks like a crazy person because she reacts with joy instead of fear when her life is threatened.
Dante then covered his wet clothes using a black coat, then lit the cigar his subordinates gave him. Ignoring Scarlett's words, Dante immediately issued an order in a low voice, "Shoot them all."
The sound of the loading of guns and the firing of bullets then resonated in the old warehouse. Dante took a few steps back, letting his subordinates finish off Scarlett and the mafia members from Lombardi.
"Donna! You have to get out of here quickly!" Scarlett's subordinates shouted.
They set up barricades around Scarlett while trying to push her to the secret escape area behind the warehouse. But Scarlett is so hard to ask to leave because it seems like that woman prefers commotion over running away.
"Donna! You'll die if you don't hurry up!" One of her subordinates dragged Scarlett by force while shouting to resuscitate Scarlett, "Donna!!"
The woman finally decided to leave after seeing more and more reinforcements from Moretti. "Back off!"
Before leaving, Scarlett shouted, "Dante! When we meet again, you will surely die in my hands!"
Dante raised his head, looking up at the starless night sky. He exhaled smoke and whispered, "It's not me who will die, but you."
