I Will Eventually Embark on the Path of No Return Called a Hero [Arc2] - 18. The Village Girl Retreats

"According to the information... by the way, how long are you going to keep mumbling?"
Cyd sighed, reaching out to pat Jeanne on the head as she mumbled things like, "It's not my fault I need sleep," and "Ah, I'm not complaining, Laeticia."
"Oh! Um... what were you saying?" Jeanne turned her head, feeling a bit guilty.
"You should just go back to sleep," Cyd said seriously.
"I'm already well-rested!" Jeanne protested, waving her fist.
"But we gather information during the day and act at night. If you suddenly fall asleep, it will be very troublesome for me," Cyd shrugged.
"I won't!" Jeanne's face turned red.
"By the way... what are you doing?" Cyd's eyebrow twitched as he grabbed Mordred's head, who had been trying to step on his shadow.
"It hurts! I was just curious if Medusa is really in your shadow!" Mordred whimpered, holding her head.
Cyd's strength was no joke, and Mordred felt as if her skull was about to be crushed.
"Sorry, she's just a child!" Sisigou hurriedly stepped forward to push Mordred's head down.
"Who's a child!" Mordred kicked Sisigou in the knee.
"I..." Sisigou's face turned pale as he slowly bent down, clutching his knee.
This pain was beyond just getting an arrow to the knee.
"Hmph," Mordred snorted at Sisigou's miserable state, not intending to help her master at all.
"You should already know that all the magicians around here are dead, right?" Cyd patted Sisigou's shoulder.
"Well, the support people are all gone," Sisigou rubbed his knee as he stood up, involuntarily glancing at Cyd's shadow.
Seeing Medusa naturally slip into Cyd's shadow made him realize the significance of the large shadow on that ancient stone tablet.
A monster from the Age of Gods was lurking beside this Hero of Pure White. Now, he felt like Cyd's shadow was watching him.
"My master says to stop looking," Atalanta said coldly, dressed in a hoodie and jeans.
Sisigou's mouth twitched. She really was looking!
"So, what should we do now?" Sisigou awkwardly changed the topic.
"Follow the Lord's guidance..."
Before Jeanne could finish her sentence, Cyd covered her mouth.
"Just wander around."
"What! At least check the bodies of those magicians!" Sisigou was surprised. He thought Cyd wanted to finish things quickly when he hurried here early in the morning.
"What's there to see," Cyd pointed to a censored photo in the newspaper, "They're definitely all cut to pieces."
"So how do we find this assassin?" Sisigou scratched his head.
"That's what you're here for," Cyd patted Sisigou's shoulder, "This assassin keeps hunting magicians for some unavoidable reason, probably because of a lack of mana. But now there are no magicians left in this city. At this point, a magician with considerable mana suddenly appears..."
"I'll be attacked naturally," Sisigou's mouth twitched. So he was called to be bait!
"Don't worry, master. I'll cut down this assassin with a few swings," Mordred confidently patted Sisigou's back.
"That's reassuring," Sisigou smiled wryly, "So instead of looking for the missing assassin, we should relax, right?"
"Actually, with the Lord's guidance, we can locate the Black Assassin," Jeanne suggested seriously.
"We can locate the assassin using the Ruler's authority, or at least my compass," Cyd flicked Jeanne's forehead, "Be more realistic."
"Why say that! The Lord is so great..." Jeanne or Laeticia couldn't help but complain. After all, their faith was being belittled.
"The gods are great," Cyd shrugged, "They bring bountiful harvests, ensure safe returns for fishermen, and bless families with smooth sailing."
"Don't forget, the Olympic gods you believe in bring more disasters than blessings," Jeanne squinted, "Their wantonness is outrageous."
"At least they truly exist, whereas you've never even seen your Lord," Cyd shrugged, "You probably wouldn't understand Him if you did."
"Impossible! I can hear the Lord's voice clearly!" Jeanne stood on her toes, unwilling to be looked down upon by Cyd.
"What did He say?" Cyd pressed Jeanne's head down.
"Eh?" Jeanne was stunned and started stammering.
"Study hard and make progress every day," Cyd rubbed Jeanne's head.
"I... I can't read..." Jeanne muttered after a long pause.
"Don't you have knowledge bestowed by the Holy Grail?"
"..."
After a while, "Jeanne" awkwardly touched her face, "Sorry, Jeanne doesn't want to talk to you right now."
She's been driven into seclusion...
"Oh, so you're Jeanne's host?" Cyd stroked his chin.
"Yes, I'm Laeticia, pleased to meet you," Laeticia bowed respectfully. After all, she was standing before a legendary Greek hero.
"Not bad, you don't have that stubborn village girl vibe," Cyd patted Laeticia's shoulder, "Being dragged into such a dangerous situation must be confusing, but don't worry. Just nod, and I'll kick Jeanne out of your body right away."
"No, I'm here willingly," Laeticia smiled bitterly and shook her head, "Also, Jeanne says please don't joke about such scary things."
"Ahem, so... how exactly are we supposed to wander?" Sisigou coughed lightly.
Laeticia instinctively hid behind Cyd when she saw Sisigou.
Sisigou: ...
Mordred pointed at Sisigou with one hand and held her stomach with the other, laughing gleefully.
"Sorry, I know you're not a bad person," Laeticia peeked out, full of apologies, "It's just... sorry!"
"Well, it's not the first time," Sisigou sighed, glancing at the laughing Mordred. Although he wanted to slap her on the head, the place where Mordred had bitten him still ached. It's better not to provoke her.
"Anyway, to prove how careless you are, please wander around without any defenses," Cyd shrugged, "Laeticia and I will follow you."
"What about me?" Mordred pointed at herself.
"Go play," Cyd took Sisigou's wallet and tossed it to Mordred.
"I..." Mordred looked conflicted.
"Go ahead, an assassin won't attack in broad daylight. If it does, the two Rulers will stop it," Sisigou pretended to be relaxed, "I'll use a Command Spell to call you if anything happens."
"Okay... make sure to call me!" Mordred clutched the wallet.
"Atalanta, can you check for any traces of the assassin's movements around?" Cyd looked at Atalanta.
"Mm," Atalanta nodded.
"One more thing," Cyd placed his hand on Atalanta's shoulder, his serious gaze making Atalanta serious too, "Can I touch your ears?"
"I'll bite you!"

"According to the information…"
Darnic set down the materials in his hand and looked at Vlad III on the throne.
"Currently, Red Saber is heading towards our Assassin's location."
"Oh? How powerful is Red Saber?" Vlad III tapped the armrest of the throne lightly.
"While we were intercepting Red Berserker, the Red Saber and their team infiltrated Trifas. However, after destroying some defensive golems, they were taken away by a woman, and we couldn't identify their Noble Phantasm," Darnic frowned. The thought of a Saber-class Servant infiltrating Trifas while their attention was on Spartacus made his scalp tingle.
"A woman? Interesting," Vlad III nodded. "Have we contacted Assassin's Master yet?"
"I told you from the start that hiring that third-rate guy was a bad idea," Gordes complained. "Now the situation he's caused is almost out of control."
Caules blinked.
Fiore sighed and handed a newspaper to Caules. "You should read the paper more often."
Caules scratched his face awkwardly as he took the newspaper. When he opened it, a huge headline caught his eye.
Jack the Ripper Reappears.
"I remember…" Caules' mouth fell open.
"Our Assassin is Jack the Ripper," Darnic sighed. "It's clear that they've completely lost control. All the magi in that city have been killed."
"If this disturbance is that big, it will definitely attract the Ruler," Caules closed the newspaper.
"The Ruler has already gone, and with Red Saber," Darnic rubbed his temples. "The Ruler mentioned before that as long as the secrecy is maintained, they wouldn't interfere. But now, Assassin's actions have gone too far. The Ruler will certainly intervene. If a conflict arises, they might deal with Assassin. Even if they don't, Red Saber won't miss this opportunity. This could be why Ruler and Red Saber are working together."
"Archer, what do you think?" Vlad III looked at Chiron, who stood behind Fiore.
"He will probably defeat Assassin without hesitation," Chiron scratched his face. "If we don't want to lose a Servant, we'd better go and support Assassin."
"Alright, then Archer, you go," Vlad III nodded. "The Master's safety is secondary. Just bring back Assassin. If you encounter Red Saber, defeat them if you can but avoid prolonged battles. Your main objective is to retrieve Assassin."
In Vlad III's eyes, Assassin's Master had lost all value, but losing a Servant over such a trivial matter was unacceptable.
"Understood."
Fiore patted her face. If she remembered correctly, Red Saber's Master was a seasoned necromancer. While she might have an absolute advantage in magical talent, in terms of combat experience, she probably couldn't even touch Sisigou's heels.
"Sister, I'll go too," Caules quickly said.
"No need, just stay here," Fiore shook her head.
"I'll protect your sister," Chiron smiled at Caules, then pushed Fiore out of the throne room.
"Ugh…" Frankenstein tugged at Caules' sleeve and pouted.
She was upset…
But Caules had no idea why.
"Caules," Vlad III tilted his head, observing Caules and Frankenstein for a while before speaking. "You should go too."
"Huh? Really?" Caules' eyes widened.
"You and Berserker tried to stop the conflict between us and the Ruler before," Vlad III raised his chin approvingly. "With Saber and Caster's golem defenses here, we'll be fine. If you want to go, then go."
"Thank you! I'll go pack right away," Caules bowed excitedly to Vlad III, then hurried out of the throne room with a still fuming but repressed Frankenstein.
"King, I don't understand," Darnic frowned.
"It's fine. If he wants to go, let him go," Gordes crossed his arms nonchalantly. "Why not send Rider too? Maybe they can take out Red Saber."
Darnic raised an eyebrow. Though Gordes's reasoning made sense, he couldn't shake the feeling that Gordes was hiding something.
Noticing Darnic's gaze, Gordes shifted his eyes away guiltily.
Trying to weaken others using Red Saber's power? Such a transparent man, Darnic thought with disdain.
"I do not underestimate any of my subjects," Vlad III lightly tapped the armrest with his fingers. "And I can tell that even if we didn't let him go, that man would sneak out anyway. Better to let him go openly."
"The King is right," Darnic sighed. He still didn't have high hopes for Caules.
Back in his room, Gordes locked the door, activated a soundproof barrier, and pursed his lips in dissatisfaction.
"Ugh, I was hoping to send out more Servants."
"What's wrong?" The homunculus peeked out of the wardrobe cautiously.
"Nothing, really. Just remember, if you hear me call you… emmm…" Gordes stroked his chin. "Come to think of it, I should give you a name."
"Hmm?" The homunculus tilted his head.
"Saber, name him," Gordes pulled out a can of nutrient fluid from his clothes and handed it to the homunculus. "This will have to do for now. With Caster watching over everything, we can't fully adjust your body until the Holy Grail War is over."
"Thank you," the homunculus struggled to open the can.
"Ugh, you're so useless," Gordes frowned and bent down to help open the can.
"Master, I'm not good at this kind of thing," Siegfried smiled wryly.
"Sieg…" the homunculus suggested softly.
"Huh? That's too plain," Gordes pouted.
"I want to replace Saber and protect you after the Holy Grail War," the homunculus stammered but looked at Gordes with determination. "Even though I'm not as strong as Saber…"
Gordes's mouth fell open.
"Then… I'm counting on you," Siegfried smiled and extended his hand to Sieg.
"Yes, I swear on my life," though weak, Sieg firmly grasped Siegfried's hand.
"Hey! Who's protecting who here? Get your priorities straight!"
