Jay watched as you listened intently to the recording that had been left at the scene. As the analyst that had joined Intelligence just a short while ago, the team was still getting to know you. But Jay knew that both Atwater and Ruzek were close to you, he also knew that Kim considered you to be her sister. He knew that the team while they didn't know that well, they would all protect you with their lives as you would for them. Jay would admit he was protective over you as he considered you family but his feelings for you weren't really familial more romantic. He couldn't ask you out due to Voight's no relationships rule. You looked at and saw Jay staring at you, red tinged your cheeks going a deeper red when he smiled at you. You dropped the headphones around your neck and called out to the team. You began to explain in detail what was going on after the recording had finished, Jay watched as your eyes lit up as Voight asked questions pertaining to how you analysed the recording.
Throughout your time at Intelligence, you had grown closer to the team and would join them for drinks whenever they headed to Molly's. Jay watched from the bar one night as Rhodes was flirting with you at the other end. Gabby headed over to Jay at his end and poured him a splash of whiskey. "You know she's not interested in him, right?" Jay stared at her, and he tossed the whiskey down. "Doesn't look like it, looks like she likes him." Gabby waved her hand when he tried to pay for his whiskey, but she took it when he asked for another. "I didn't say she didn't like him, I said she wasn't interested, she likes someone else." She shrugged. Jay tossed his drink back again and watched as Rhodes headed towards the exit, he passed Jay and nodded at him. It clicked in Jay's mind. "She's interested in me?" Gabby nodded, eyes slightly widened. "You're a detective aren't you supposed to notice these things?" She questioned. Jay rolled his eyes at her. "You should ask her out or send her a drink."
"You just want me to spend more money." Gabby nodded, "Yeah, but, I don't like seeing either of you pining like this it's annoying and frankly I want to see her happy." Jay nodded and handed Gabby another note, she raised her eyebrows. "Whatever's her favourite drink." Gabby smiled and made up the drink before walking down the bar and handing it to you. When you questioned her, she pointed at Jay who waved. You picked up your drink and headed down the bar, Gabby beat you to Jay and muttered to him. "You hurt her, and I'll hurt you." Jay nodded, "Noted." Gabby left to the other end to flirt with Casey. You smiled at Jay, "Thanks for the drink, any special reason you sent me a drink?" He smiled at you, "Yeah, I was working up the nerve to ask you out." You faked a gasp, "Are you telling me that the confident former Army Ranger, now Detective Jay Halstead needed help asking out little old me?" He gave a deep chuckle that sent butterflies dancing around your stomach before nodding. "Yeah, I did." You furrowed your brows and pursed your lips. "Why?" He grinned at you as you took your seat. "Your eyes." He leaned forward and brushed a lock of hair out of your eyes, "They are amazing, I love the colouring, the way they light up whenever your excited or really interested in something. The way they change shades depending the light, how expressive they are. You express your emotions through your eyes and they are remarkable." You had begun to smile during his declaration, and it had turned into a full-on grin when he had finished. "You know you haven't actually asked me out yet?" You stated, and Jay grinned. "Y/N, will you go out with me?" You gave a soft smile and nodded. Jay leaned forward and kissed you, the kiss was chaste and when he pulled away there was mix of longing and love in his blue eyes. He drew his bottom lip between his teeth before, "Would you like to go for a walk?" You nodded dazed slightly from the kiss. Once outside and out of sight of the windows in the bar, Jay turned and cupped your chin carefully before kissing you again with more passion, making the kiss deeper than it had been in Molly's. He pulled away, "I have been waiting ages to do that."
"What was stopping you?" Jay shrugged, "I have no idea."
Back in Molly's, those who were left that knew you and Jay all muttered finally under their breath before going back to their drinks. Voight moved over to Gabby, "You have a hand in this?" She nodded appearing unfazed. "Thank god, I was sick of all the pining."
"Weren't we all?" Gabby replied relieved.
