l woke up to the sound of cawing from the small swan. I sighed and grabbed my spear before heading outside and noticing the small swan was cawing because of the tiger. The tiger was chasing it, most likely trying to eat it. I smiled it was funny to watch the large tiger fail at catching the sall swan. I walked over to the place where the tiger was chasing the swan, and yelled "SOP" in a gravelly voice due to not speaking enough. Both animals stopped moving and looked at me curiously. I walked towards the tiger and started petting it before saying "We dn't hrt frinds." once again in a gravelly voice. The tiger seemed to understand before running away into the forest. I offered my hand to the swan and it jumped upon my arm and crawled before stopping and resting on my shoulder. Now that this incident was settled it was time for me to go and check the trap.
I walked over to my trap and the swan observed everything I did, almost like it was recording me. When I got to my tap I could tell instantly that it had been activated, and rushed over to see what was in it. It was a large pig that was struggling to get out of the hole whining. Finally I could eat meat again! I set the small swan down carefully and readied my spear. I prepared myself and thrusted my spear straight through its head with relative ease. It died, and I hopped into the hole and lifted it out. Back at home, I was taught by my grandpa to hunt. Of course hunting is different without a gun, but with a trap and a sharp object it was easy. I climbed out of the hole and picked up the pig carrying it under my arm. I picked up the swan and let it rest on my shoulder again. When I got to my camp, I made some basic utensils and a knife out of some wood and started skinning the pig. When I was done with that, I hung up the meat to let it dry. It would take a minimum of eleven days before the meat could be removed from the bone. Of course, I could remove the meat earlier it would just not taste as good and would come with the chance of me getting a disease. Due to me being in the wilderness, the chances of an animal coming to eat the meat is extremely high, so I don't think I can wait the full eleven days. I should probably eat it later today after I cook it, I don't think I can eat it all so I should try and make some of it into jerky.
For now, I would guard my meat until it was ready to be deboned and cooked. Until it is ready, I should make a few tools out of the leg bones of the pig.
I carefully carved one of the bones into the knife. Once I was done carving it, I sharpened it using a rock and used the excess bone to make a cup. I took the other leg bone and made a fork, spoon, and steak knife. With that done, I took my bone knife and started testing it. It worked quite well, and could probably be used as a dagger in case of danger. The small swan who had been watching me the entire time looked happy for some reason. I started stroking its back with one of my fingers. It was my only friend, despite maybe the tiger? In this new place. As I pet the swan, I wondered what else I could do with the body of the pig. I could use the skin to create some pants, and the rest of the bones to make .... I don't know what I could use the rest of the bones for. Maybe some arrows or needles. There were a lot of things I could do with them, I just didn't know what to do with them. I could figure it out later when I was done removing them from the meat. I liked to think that every part of the animal is important and could be used in some way. Except the organs which I had buried in the ground away from my camp. Other than the organs, the bones, skin and meat could all be used in some way. I planned to use the fat to make some candles. I would eat the meat, and use the bones to make tools. The skin would be used for clothes or a water pouch. I was knocked out of my thoughts when the swan started running away. That was odd, where is it going? I stood up and followed it.
It led me to an opening in the forest. The sun shone upon my face as I looked upwards. I wonder if the swan wanted me to see the sun for some reason. I looked at the sun for a while, it looked odd for some reason. It was off. Where the sun would normally be in the middle of the day back home, was a long ways away from where the sun was right now. The position of the sun was closer to where it would be in the middle of the day in India, but even then it was off. I started laughing, tears streamed down my face as I realised the sun was off in position by about 7000 years I fell to my knees crying.I didn't want to be right I had hoped I was wrong, about me traveling through time. I wanted to feel bad about traveling through the past but no, the universe had to fuck up and send me back in time by 7000 years, to India a place I know nearly nothing about to save me from dying. What a fucking joke, I tried to be happy about it because I hadn't died after I was shot and sure I was lucky to have survived, but that doesn't mean I can't be mad about being sent away from everything I loved right? Sure, that may be extremely petty and selfish, but I don't give a shit. I want to go home, I want to survive, I want to see my sister and parents again. No matter how long it takes, I will get back to my correct time and place. Once I do that, I'll find the reason I was sent here, and make sure it never happens to anyone else again. I stood up with renewed vigor, I wiped the tears out of my eyes, and made an oath.
"I swer no mater hw lng it taks I wil go bak to mhy corect place in hiztory, no matter wht it Taks I WIL DO IT." I yelled my oath, in a gravelly voice. The swan spread its wings and flew into the sky. Wasn't it supposed to be injured? I watched the swan fly higher into the sky. I too needed to spread my wings and fly, it was the only way I could ever hope to get home. With a new goal and conviction, I walked back to my camp with an excited smile. I would get back to my home, no matter what it takes.
I returned to my camp and started deboning the pork. By god Jesse, It's time to COOK!
...........Chapter break........
Author here, I'm not sure If I wrote this part right, if anyone has any problems with it and could tell me how to fix it, I will do it without a second thought. (I think I wrote the part decently, but I feel it could be better as well, and hope I can write emotional parts better in the future.) Anyways don't be afraid to comment! Also go check out wilderness cooking on youtube! It's awesome to see that guy work, I watch it while writing. See you guys again at the end of this chapter.
..........Chapter break end......
When I finished removing the bones from the pork, I grabbed a few mangos and different spices and began cutting the mangos into small pieces and mixing them with the different spices before spreading the mixture across the pork. I then rolled the pork into a cylinder and let it marinate for an hour.
During that hour, I started a fire and made a plate out of bone to cook the pork on. After that I used the rest of the bone to create some utensils. I disinfected them using some water and wood which can be used as soap. The hour was finished and it was time to cook. One could say it was "Cookin time."
I quickly grabbed the pork and started cooking it on the bone pan. It sizzled away causing an extremely good smell to waft through the forest. It took about thirty minutes to be cooked all the way, but once it was I created a makeshift table using a few sticks and branches. I cut the meat into small portions and put them onto the bone plate. I took a wooden plate out of my cabin and took some of the pork and started eating it. It tasted sweet and well seasoned at the same time. As I was eating I heard a voice speak out from behind me.
("You there boy, give me some of that food.") I turned around and saw an old man with a beard, wearing saffron robes paired with a saffron pagri upon his head as well. He was speaking Sanskrit which is a good sign for me, as I could kind of speak Sanskrit. He was being rude though, asking for food that I had made. I nodded though, and decided to share my food with him, as he was the first human I had met in a while. I wonder how he got here though. I cut a large portion of the pork off of the slab and gave him a knife and fork to eat with.
(A/N from now on, just assume they are speaking in Sanskrit)
We ate in silence for a while, before he asked me a question.
"Boy, did you make this food?" he asked curiously.
"Sir, yes" I spoke in broken Sanskrit combined with my gravelly voice.
"Hmph, be proud of your cooking skills boy, this is one of the best meals I have eaten." The man said arrogantly.
"Sir, you thank." I said once again in broken Sanskrit conveying my thanks for his compliment.
"Boy, my name is Durvasa because you have impressed me, I will grant you one wish but first state your name."
Durvasa? As in the partial avatar of shiva from indian mythology? Can he really grant the ability to commune with gods like in the Mahabharata? I looked at him in awe before he spoke again.
"Do not waste my time boy, or instead of a wish I will give you a curse." I decided to quickly come up with a name for myself as to not get cursed. He does have a short temper like in the stories though.
"Sorry sir, name is Parivrajaka." I stated, deciding to name myself wanderer as it was an apt description of what I was.
"Parivrajaka? An apt name for someone like yourself, though not your real name I assume that's what you would like to be referred to from now on yes?" Huh. He knows that I am not from this time then, I guess that makes sense. He is the avatar of shiva right?
"Now then, Parivrajaka what is your wish." He asked.
"Home." was all I said before he nodded and started chanting. Suddenly, he stopped and had an annoyed look on his face.
"I can't do that, instead I'll give you this." was all he said before a necklace appeared in his hand. He gave it to me and I looked at it curiously.
"That will allow you to commune with a god of your choice when worn, but only once. I must take my leave, if I ever see you again I expect you to cook for me boy." With that he stood up and disappeared into the trees. I looked at the necklace curiously before storing it in my pocket. I would save it for when I needed to use it. If it didn't work it would be fine it just meant that I was scammed out of some food. I continued eating thinking about what it would mean if I was stuck in the middle of the Mahabharata with the ability to commune with a god.
Title the sage Durvasa
