I no longer smell her or sense the evil that oozes from her. Instead, now I feel calm and at ease for the first time in a while. Knowing that I don’t have to worry about Marion skulking around in the shadows either, helps even more. I do have to hurry on out of here though before the cop cars start to arrive.
Barely making it out of town before I hear the sirens blazing in the distance, I smile and glance in the mirror at the horizon. This was a good place for a showdown. After fueling up in the next town, I hope that she will be in the next town that I come to so I can finally end her once and for all.
Not knowing where I am going, I look at the stars and when I see a shooting star off to the east, I decide now, “That way.”
As I say it, I turn the vehicle in the same direction and then I hit the expressway. “No more deserted dark roads for me tonight, thank you very much.” I say to myself in the empty truck, just before I see her cross the highway in front of me.
