Capítulo 17: The Lady In The Painting

"Well if you are then you just happened to make a big mistake," he smirked

Isla was stiff when approached her with his eyes scanning her and their surroundings.

"So what about the rest? They must be fast asleep by now," the look on his face gave her a hint that he knew that but he wanted to confirm, or was it to remind her that she was all alone.

She tried to take a step back, however fear gripped her heart tightly and she felt like vomiting.

Looking around to see if there was any possible way out of here.

Everywhere was still dark and she started to regret her decision of coming out this early.

He neared her and leaned down to whisper close to her face.

"Why do you look so oddly familiar?"

"I have no idea of what speak of," she managed to say.

"I can't be wrong about that," he insisted.

"Then where have you seen me from?" She decided to act tough in hopes that it might make him back off.

"You look like hesebel, the girl from the painting"

"Who is hesebel?"

"She.." he paused and looked at her with a sharp gaze as if he just recalled something disgusting.

Isla shrieked when he frowned, still maintaining his cold look.

"I should have known better!" He drawled and grabbed her wrist harshly.

He started dragging her with him. Isla's heart flipped in fear with how sudden things were getting. She was utterly confused about what he was talking about.

Who on earth is hesebel? And why was she identified as her?.

Something told her it was a set up and there was no such person or even name as hesebel.

The man kept pulling her with him, she soon realized they were heading to a dark alley.

No way she was going to walk to that dark alley with this scary man. Her instincts begged for her to scream and alert the rest or fight her way from this man.

The man turned, giving her a deadly glare that spoke of danger and she instantly knew it was a warning but she couldn't sit back and watch death walking gracefully towards her or was she the one hopping in fear towards it?.

"Let me go! My uncle knows how to deal with people like you so you better let me go," she said unexpectedly. This was her last result. Either she fights her way out of here or she threatens him.

He stopped suddenly, his back facing her which made it hard for her to guess what he was thinking.

He breathed in and turned to look at her.

"Oh?" He raised a brow "and who are they to you?"

Isla felt tongue tied.

"You are worse than people like me and you need to be executed for that."

He grabbed her arms harshly "you don't deserve to live after taking so many countless lives," he spoke in a loud whisper, shaking her with passion.

Isla felt her bones almost being shattered with his strong grips. He successfully dragged her to the dark alley.

"Right here will be your end."

Just as he muttered those words, he whistled loudly.

Isla got a bad feeling. She knew that whistle stood as a signal.

She decided to fight her way out. Wasting no time, she kicked his leg and pushed her way past him but he was fast to recover as grabbed her arm and slammed her against the wall behind her.

He gave her a strong punch on her stomach and she crouched down in pain.

Without giving her time to recover, he grabbed her neck and pinned her to the wall, lifting his fist in the air.

Isla shut her eyes instinctively. Her heart beating faster and rapidly, her stomach twisted in pain.

She dreadfully waited for the hard punch but nothing happened instead the hold on her neck was set loose.

She decided to open one eye before the other.

Isla opened an eye and looked in front of her. She saw thin air, not even a shadow of a person.

Agitated, she opened the other eye and scanned the whole place in search of the man, yet there was no one there.

Without wasting much time, she tried to move away from there as fast as possible.

Turning around, "uch!" She exclaimed when she bumped into something hard.

"Is that how you say thank you?" She knew exactly who the voice belonged to.

"Devon," she whispered.

Isla looked up to see his face, half of it was hidden by the dark shadow of the alley while half was made visible by the bright moonlight.

His hair seemed to have a glow in the moonlight.

She could see the gleam on his skin and the way his lashes moved slowly every time he blinked. His eyes shone in the darkness, it made her feel like a prey.

"Wha- what are you doing here?"

He stared at her silently before his gaze traveled down her body. He clenched his jaw and Isla wondered why.

He stretched his hand to touch her arm but she flinched back in both fear and pain

He looked down on the ground and crouched to lift something up.

She stared at his hand holding her shawl.

His gaze was on the shawl while he stalked over to her again and wrapped the shawl around her body.

His unpredictable movement made her both nervous and scared.

Devon's hands slipped from her shoulders to her arms. He gently caressed them and Isla found herself relaxing in his soothing touch.

"You should go back," he said, snapping Isla back to reality.

"What about you?" She asked, having a worried expression.

"You should inform the others before sunrise, we need to leave here," he told her and dropped his hands.

Isla wanted to object but kept shut because she knew he was right. This place was not safe for them.

A little reluctant, she had forced herself to run back to inform the others.

Isla rushed into the house in haste. Her legs were moving faster than her mind.

She walked hastily through the passageway with a beating heart. Her eyes were searching around the place.

Her foot stood their movement when her eyes caught something hanging on the wall.

A small painting hung on the wall. Isla took a step closer to it in order to take a better look at it.

She narrowed her gaze at it as she tried to understand the lady in the painting.

Her blank expression slowly turned into a shocking one. Her eyes widened in shock, she gasped and covered her mouth with her trembling hands.

No way! That was the first thing she screamed in her head.
