Capítulo 8: Old Man's Entertainment
Feeling of water being poured over my head made me wake up. Over short period of time I was able to get properly awake and I was able to see without blurriness. I was tied to a wood pole and unknown rat-faced soldier was standing in front of me with a bucket in his hands.
" You are finally awake lake-shit. You caught attention of commander, Lord Percival. He wants to see you now." - he waved his hand and two burly soldiers untied me from wooden pole and helped to stand up. But next second they put chains on my arms and legs. Huh, they are that scared of me?
They have quickly delivered me to a large decorated tent which was heavily guarded. I saw a lot of heavily armoured knights and their squires as well as some man dressed in rich clothes. After reporting to one of the knights that was guarding entrance that requested prisoner is here I was brought into the tent.
" So its you who made whole battalion of footmen shit themselves and stop advancing." - said grey haired old man wearing full plate armour.
" Yes, it was very likely because of that bloody mess caused by me."
" Hah you must be one from that damned platoon that kept fighting even after being encircled until reinforcement arrived and deblocked them."
" You are right but I am not just another soldier but leader of that platoon. Let me introduce myself Platoon Leader of Hangman's Fort platoon, Askar"
"Hmm surprising you have some manners, not what I expected from low-born. But your I have a question, why leader left his people in the middle of battle? Maybe you are just telling a fairy tale in order to save your neck from executioner's axe?"
" I got carried away by heat of battle"
" Yes, I can see that you are not lying and I saw myself how you fought all alone" - he stood up and ordered servant to get him two goblets with wine. After servant brought wine he passed one to me. I requested a small jar with water.
" Afraid that I will poison you?" - he asked with smirk
" No, in my condition undiluted wine is prohibited."
" You are definitely not a low-born, your words and manners show that you have received education. Who are you Askar? Disowned child or nobleman's bastard?
" I am just Askar, Solder of Hangman's Fort Garrison and Platoon Leader"
" You have guts boy, if someone else tried to speak with me in such manner I would flog him till death"
" I am a soldier and death always follows me"
" Hahaha you are one of very few truly brave person"
" Thank you for compliment but I doubt that you just wanted to have a small talk with Red Lake soldier"
" You will be surprised but I actually just wanted to see that brave warrior who was able halt the advance of one of my battalions which lead to stalemate in this combat. Moreover I want to reward you, I always respected true warriors that can fight despite the odds like heroes of old. Also tomorrow we will exchange captured soldiers with lake-shits and sign another white peace. So I wanted to see you before that"
" So after such bloody conflict our kings will just announce white peace?"
" This not the first and not the last conflict between our kingdoms, so maybe in a year or even less we will fight again. This time it was us who started it next time it maybe you. Just another circle of war"
" Well I hope to meet you again and I will prepare some good wine"
" Hahaha oh boy you are really true warrior, I can't wait for it"
" Thank you for your hospitality Lord Percival and before I leave can I request to get some hot water to cleanse my body, I reek of blood of your soldiers"
" I will pass order to my servants and before you leave let me pass your reward"
He has waved at servant and in few seconds he brought a long sword in decorated scabbard
" I have been told that your previous sword broke in half so I decided to present you with more reliable one. I hope to see you again young man but now we must part. Servants will help you with bath and guide you to exchange point"
I just nodded to him and followed servant out of the tent. Next few hours I spent tending my wounds and cleaning my body. Five Towers soldiers were not very happy to see unchained enemy but seems gossips about bloodbath caused by me have reached every soldier so nobody dared to irritate or provoke me so I could do mind my business without much problems.
Finally higher ups finished all diplomatic procedures and exchange of prisoners was given green light. It's time to find out what happened with my boys and what will happen to me.
