Capítulo 68: The Ace Number
The Next Day, In Kataoka's Office.
"We have to decide the lineup for the Fall Tournament now", said Kataoka.
Takashima and Ochihai nodded.
"All the other positions have mostly been decided for a while now but all that's left now is the ace position. Should It go to Rei or Furuya", said Takashima.
"What do you guys think?", said Kataoka nodding.
"Furuya", blurted Ochihai.
"Rei", blurted Takashima.
"It seems like you both have different opinions", said Kataoka.
"I would raise Furuya as the ace he has the skills and the attitude to be one", said Ochihai.
"I disagree because I think Rei should be ace. You cannot deny that he definitely has the skills to be an ace and he gets along well with his teammates", said Takashima.
Kataoka was in thought while Ochihai and Takashima waited for his decision.
"We will give Furuya the ace number and have Rei back him up when needed", said Kataoka.
"But—", said Takashima.
Kataoka glared at her silencing her.
During Evening Practice.
Everyone lined up since Kataoka had to make an announcement.
All the players were anxious since they thought that the announcement was probably about the fall tournament lineup. They knew this because Kataoka always decides the lineup last minute.
"I'll be passing out your numbers. Come take your number as I call you. First, Number 1. Furuya Satoru", said Kataoka.
This one sentence shocked everyone since they expected someone else.
"What are you doing? Come up here, Furuya", said Kataoka.
Furuya nodded and went up to grab his number.
Rei scoffed witnessing this scene.
Even Miyuki was shocked since he knew Rei was better than Furuya.
"Let's continue, Number 2, Miyuki Kazuya", said Kataoka.
"Yes, Sir", said Miyuki accepting his number.
"Number 3, Maezono Kenta.", said Kataoka.
"I accept", said Maezono Kenta accepting his number.
"Number 4, Kominato Haruichi", said Kataoka.
Blushing Haruichi accepting his number.
"Number 5, Higasa Shoji", said Kataoka.
"Yes, Sir", said Higasa accepting his number.
"Number 6, Kuramochi Youichi", said Kataoka.
"Thank you!", said Kuramochi accepting his number.
"Number 7, Asou Takeru", said Kataoka.
"Yes, Sir", said Asou accepting his number.
"Number 8, Tojo Hideaki", said Kataoka.
"Yeah!", said Tojo accepting his number.
"Number 9, Shirasu Kenjirou", said Kataoka.
"I'll do my best", said Shirasu accepting his number.
"Number 10, Rei Fujikawa", said Kataoka.
Rei nodded accepting his number. He didn't want to cause a scene, so he reluctantly accepted the number.
"Number 11, Kawakami Norifumi", said Kataoka.
"Yes, Sir", said Kawakami accepting his number.
"Number 12, Ono Hiroshi", said Kataoka.
"Yes, Sir", said Ono accepting his number.
"Number 13, Seki Naomichi", said Kataoka.
"NA!", said Seki accepting his number.
"Number 14, Yamaguchi Ken", said Kataoka.
"Yes, Sir", said Yamaguchi accepting his number.
"Number 15, Kanemaru Shinji", said Kataoka.
"Yes, Sir", said Kanemaru accepting his number.
"Number 16, Kijima", said Kataoka.
"Yes, Sir", said Kijima accepting his number.
"Number 17, Kawashima Kengo", said Kataoka.
"Yes, Sir", said Kawashima accepting his number.
"Number 18, Sawamura Eijun", said Kataoka.
"YES, SIR!", said Sawamura Eijun accepting his number. Even though he couldn't become the ace he will work hard until he could.
"Number 19, Kaneda Tadahiro", said Kataoka.
Yes, Sir", said Kaneda accepting his number.
"And lastly, number 20, Mimura Ryota", said Kataoka.
"Yes, Sir", said Mimura accepting his number.
"I'm sure you all will understand the lineup. If you have any problems, come discuss them with me in my office", said Kataoka.
At Night, In the Cafeteria.
Furuya, Sawamura, Kawakami, Miyuki, Haruichi, and Kuramochi were sitting at the same table eating their dinner but for some reason, the atmosphere surrounding the table wasn't cheerful despite them getting their numbers successfully.
"I can't believe Kataoka coach made this kind of decision", said Miyuki.
"I'm still shocked", said Kuramochi.
"There must have been a reason", said Haruichi.
"I think so too but I don't think anything else matters. Just look at Rei's skills compare to Furuya it's completely on a whole another level. If we made it further in Koshien I bet, he would have been scouted for other colleges already. Even though he's only a 1st year", said Kuramochi.
'The mound Is mine and nobody more than me deserves it', thought Furuya eating his dinner. Even though he thought this way he was feeling guilty.
"Wait, guys…I don't see Rei anywhere", said Haruichi dumfounding everyone at the table.
"Don't tell me—", said Kuramochi.
"He went to the office!", said Kanemaru joining them.
"ANO BAKA!!", said Miyuki frustrated. He didn't know what was going to happen in the office, but he did know that Rei had a temper, and it was going to worsen his reputation in front of Kataoka and Ochihai.
20 Minutes ago, outside Kataoka's office.
**Knock** **Knock** Rei knocked on Kataoka's office.
"Come in", said Kataoka.
Rei entered the office.
"I was expecting you", said Kataoka.
'Obviously, you would', thought Rei scoffing.
"Let me get straight to the point. Why am I not the ace? Clearly, I have better skills than Furuya and even the whole team thinks that way", said Rei.
"I think you are not suited for the role and even the assistant coach Ochihai agrees", said Kataoka.
"Stop beating around the bush and straight up tell him", added Ochihai coach from the side.
"I don't need an arrogant brat like you in my team", said Kataoka bluntly glaring at Rei trying to intimidate him.
"And you think Furuya fits the ideal role of Seido's ace", said Rei.
Ochihai and Kataoka nodded.
"HAHAHHA…F****** S*** C***", cursed Rei as he walked out of the office.
Takashima, Ochihai, and Kataoka were left stunned inside the office.
In Rei's Dorm.
'I think it's best that way', thought Rei as he had come to a decision that will change his future.
The Next Day, Morning Practice.
Every player was either running or practicing on the field since 4 days from now was the fall tournament.
"Where's Rei?", wondered Sawamura lapping around the field.
Kataoka who was observing the practice took notice that Rei was nowhere to be seen on the field.

Author's Note: Since you guys hated the last cliffhanger I wrote another chapter today. I read the comments and I found it funny how everyone was saying Rei should go to Yakushi. In the Director's Office.
"Come In", said the principal.
Rei entered the office with his packed bag.
"How can I help you, Rei-Kun", said the principal. She was a little surprised to see Rei bring along his suitcase.
"I want to transfer schools", said Rei surprising the principal.
"Are you sure? Please take a seat and think this through", said the principal calmly gesturing for Rei to sit down. But her mind was in turmoil, 'EHHHHHH!! Why does my number 1 student want to switch schools? The board members will kill me if they know this. Rei alone is raising the school's popularity because of Baseball. That's how popular he is', she thought.
"You can't change my mind, please prepare to let me withdraw my scholarship", said Rei stubbornly.
"Are you sure?", asked the principal.
Rei nodded and said, "Are you guys going to keep the scholarship, or I will be allowed to keep it?".
"You will be allowed to keep it since it was a scholarship gifted to you", said the principal.
Rei nodded seemingly happy.
"Please start my transferring process", said Rei.
"To which school?", asked the principal.
"Yakushi High", said Rei smirking.
"But isn't that school poor? Why would you go to such a school? You deserve much better", said the principal convincing him.
"Yakushi High!", repeated Rei and the principal nodded quietly.
"How long would it take for the transfer to process?", asked Rei.
"2 weeks since it is Yakushi High. That poor school…", said the principal.
"That's too long. Can't you shorten it a bit", said Rei.
The principal remained silent for a while and replied, "I'll call in a favor, but it will still take a week max".
"THANK YOU!!", replied Rei as he walked out of the office.
"He seems enthusiastic to transfer out of this school. Something must have happened, let me call the Baseball club's director and ask what happened", muttered the principal.
In Rei's Dorm, At night.
"Where did he go? I haven't seen him during evening and morning practice. Was Furuya being ace that big of a shock to him? Well, I would be shocked too if I was in his place", said Kanemaru eyeing Rei's bed.
Looking at Rei's bed, Kanemaru felt odd because it seemed way emptier than usual.
Curiously, Kanemaru walked up to Rei's bed and looked underneath his pillow to find the necklace his mother gave him, and it wasn't there.
Kanemaru got the gist of what was happening. He opened Rei's closet to find it empty.
In Miyuki's room.
"Where do you think, Rei went?", said Miyuki.
"Maybe he stayed in his dorm the whole day".
"I'll go ask Kanemaru", said Miyuki.
As he was about to open the door to leave, it opened revealing Kanemaru.
"Oh, what are you doing here?", asked Miyuki.
"Rei…Not here", said Kanemaru panting as he ran to Miyuki's dorm.
"What do you mean?", asked Miyuki.
"He's not in my dorm!", said Kanemaru.
30 Minutes later, in Kataoka's office.
Kataoka was about to leave for the day, but he heard aggressive knocks on the door.
"Come in", said Kataoka.
Sawamura, Miyuki, and Kanemaru walked into Kataoka's office.
"What brings you guys here late at night?", said Kataoka yawning.
"We want to ask what happened to Rei. We haven't heard from him the whole day and I can't find his belongings in the dorm anymore", said Kanemaru.
As soon as Kanemaru said this, Kataoka's landline started ringing.
Kataoka immediately picked it up as he recognized the number. He signaled the kids to sit down and remain quiet.
"WHAT HAPPENED IN THE TEAM, TODAY? The principal just informed me that Rei is transferring to another school. I need an explanation, Kataoka", said the director pissed over the landline.
Even though Kataoka was shocked hearing the news, he still explained the Ace number situation to the director.
"Ok, I got the gist of the situation. Do you really think making Furuya the ace is the best decision for the team Kataoka?", asked the director.
"Yes, I believe so", said Kataoka.
"Then I see no problem with Rei transferring. He's still a kid what is he going to be able to do even if he transfers? People are glad to be able to join Seido, if he wants to leave no one needs to stop him", said the director as he hung up.
"Now, as you heard Rei is being transferred from this school", said Kataoka.
Sawamura, Miyuki, and Kanemaru looked at each other shocked.
The Next Day, In Seido.
Everyone found out about Rei transferring.
"How can that ikemen transfer".
"This is injustice".
"He was so perfect. He was good at sports and studying".
"no one could compete against him".
"Did you guys hear the reason Rei's transferring?"
"I heard that he fought with one of his teammates".
"I knew this was going to happen soon. Rei was too perfect I bet they were jealous of him".
"Now I wonder where my Ikemen is".
"I'm starting to hate those baseball boys because they derived Rei out of the team".
Discussed the girls in Furuya's classroom.
Furuya who overheard the conversation almost broke the pencil he was writing with. He had gotten anxious as the day went by. His mental health wasn't good and tomorrow they had to leave for the tournament.
Meanwhile, Rei in his house.
"Omma, look at this check", said Rei as he flaunted his scholarship check.
"I can't believe they let you keep this much", gasped Chiaki looking at the amount.
The Check was for 1.4 million yen.
Currently, the Fujikawa family was celebrating their overnight richness.
"I'll keep the 400,000 yen for Yakushi High", said Rei.
"Isn't that too less for a school tuition?", said Chiaki concerned.
"Nope. That school is totally different from Seido", said Rei as he went outside the house to do his daily workout.
The Next Day, The Fall Tournament Started.
