Capítulo 90: Chapter 89 - Gaining the upper hand in this bloody war

Two days have passed since the attack and the unfortunate loss of some of our people. The next day after the attack, Abby and Pike's team return in a hurry while Kane and some of the guards stood behind in Polis for political reasons not exactly important to my friends or me.

As much as I hate the way Abby did her job as a leader of our people, I have to admit that she was probably the best medic we could have ever dreamed to have. Thanks to her, Finn survived the injuries that almost killed him, but even now, two days later, he still wasn't waking up from his coma. Clarke was the one who suffered the most after her boyfriend went into a coma, and despite the strange relationships, she was in while away, Clarke still didn't forget about Finn. Only Abby and maybe Jackson knew how long Clarke had gone without sleep while staying next to Finn from the moment he was brought out of the operation room.

At the same time, I was forced by Byrne to come back to Arkadia, the new name they granted to Camp Jaha after the man betrayed everyone and run away with a small group before our assault on Mount Weather. Before I left I tried to talk with Raven, but unfortunately, I couldn't find her in time, forcing me to put our conversation on hold until we met again.

Right now, I was standing next to the fence listening to Pike holding his speech in front of all of our people, as well as the survivors from Farm Station.

"The grounders had attacked our people ever since our children put foot on this place, and yet, we somehow are allies with them. The truth is that we all die someday, but how we die is up to us."

Pike looked at the people of Arkadia and the remaining people of Farm Station that did not die in the Mount Weather attack as they gathered for the memorial of that tragedy. He looked around the room as he read off of the victim list.

"We will miss all of our brave men and women who gave their lives for a better future. May we meet again."

"May we meet again!"

"Who will speak for Gina Martin?"

As I was looking through the crowd, I noticed Bellamy as he clutched a book in his hand, making me realize how terrible he felt for believing the words of a woman that was probably a spy from Azgeda.

Meanwhile, Bellamy could only remember how unfair it was to Gina the whole time the two of them were together. She made him happy, and yet he couldn't bring himself to be as happy as he could've been with her because of his mistakes. After taking a deep breath, he stepped up and walked down, turning to the crowd before him.

"Gina was real. She always saw the light, even here. She deserved better. May we meet again."

He turned and set the book on the table and then rushed back to his seat, trying to calm himself down. I wasn't exactly the best person to offer my shoulder in such a situation, but that was the least I could do for him, so as any good friend would do, I sat across from him, with two glasses of good alcohol in my hands before passing one to him.

"Let's make you realize how wrong you are. Knowing you, Bellamy, you probably blame yourself for the death of Gina and all of the people that defended the bunker, right. But the truth is that even if you, Pike, and the rest of the veterans remained, the Azgeda would have still attacked, maybe in an even bigger force."

Bellamy glanced at me for a moment before he drank the whole glass in one go, not even feeling the alcohol burning his throat as he spoke to me.

"I blame myself because I lost the girl I love. But yes, I was foolish to believe the words of an Azgeda spy, even more so when even from the beginning she befriended me so suddenly."

"I know what it's like to lose people that you consider family, Bellamy. Maybe not specifically the girl I love, but I do know what it's like to lose people and not be able to do anything about it. And you're right, it was your fault."

He looked at me in shock not expecting me to blame him for the deaths of those people, not after how bad their deaths hurt him.

"Don't give me that look. We all are guilty and responsible for their deaths in one way or another. If Pike would have been here, he would have definitely put the blame on the grounders as a whole, then again, he wouldn't be wrong. What I try to say is that you are right to seek revenge for what they did to Gina, but for the love of God don't start a whole vendetta against all of the grounders, unless you are prepared for another war."

Bellamy stood silent for a few seconds before he closed his eyes for another second, most likely making peace with the thought that he lost Gina for good and nothing would bring her back.

"Thanks, Leon, you made me realize something, and thanks for being a friend."

"Hey, didn't we go through hell and lived? That's what friends are for."

Suddenly, I heard Byrne's voice coming from my walkie-talking asking for me. While I would have remained more with Bellamy, the prisoner that we took from mount Weather was brought here to be interrogated, and probably, he had finally broken.

As if he waited for an opportunity to find Bellamy alone, Pike came to him as soon as I left with two shot glasses of alcohol. Sitting down, Pike handed one of the glasses to Bellamy before he spoke to the boy about how lost his girl.

"Kane's words may seem nice and all, but despite whatever he and Abby say, we are still at war, a cold and bloody war against the grounders. "

"Yet, sir, I was the one who led you and your soldiers away, long enough for the Ice Nation to attack our bunker."

"A lesson learned in blood. Our people die because the grounders let them die. The coalition and their commander knew that Azgeda planned another attack and yet they barely sent a proper army to keep their boy safe from harm."

They both drank their shots, before Pike leaned forward, whispering to Bellamy so that no one near them could hear him.

"Kane's a good man, and he somewhat sees you as a son just like he does with Leon. However, he doesn't want to believe that we're fighting a war. He thinks Grounders can police Grounders and now they're in the woods outside our home, with a peacekeeping force? Why would they send a peacekeeping force here? To keep us at bay or maybe to attack us again?"

"What would you do, sir?"

"What I wouldn't do is wait for them to hit us, son. I'd rather avoid another massacre like the one the grounders did when my people landed in the lands of Ice Nation."

Pike quickly looked around, before he told Bellamy something that shocked the boy.

"My scouts told me that this peacekeeping force has around three hundred warriors and not a single gun between them and us. Ten highly motivated men with automatic rifles are all it would take to get rid of them! I've got the men, who are willing to take part in such a risky yet heroic mission, but I need your help, Bellamy. Please, help us, avenge our people!"

"You're asking me to get you the guns?"

Pike nodded at him, expecting a positive response from the boy.

"That would get me killed, sir. It's treason."

"No, son. That's called survival. Those grounders disguised as peacemakers will attack our camp and our leaders do nothing. Right now, we have the element of surprise and the means of ending it all for all. If we wait, we die! Now, if Byrne and Kane call it treason, then, I for one, I'm willing to suffer the consequences to save our people. Tell me, Bellamy, are you willing to suffer the same consequences?"

Hearing those words, Bellamy slowly nodded before he got up from the ground, ready to help Pike get the upper hand in this war, forgetting everything he and Leon had discussed a few minutes ago.
