Capítulo 43: Escape 1

CHAPTER 43
A smug smile appeared on the corners of Raven's lips as a glint flashed in her eyes.
"Got you."
Taking a dive to her side, Raven evaded the attack just the same time it landed against the wall.
Instantly the barrier came to view and with equal force to which….
BOOM!
The sound at which her powers surged out against the barrier echoed within the room.
However, an equally powerful force was sent at Sky the next second, throwing her out of balance and slamming her body hard against the open door as she landed with her face down on the ground.
'To every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.' Raven thoughtfully recited in her mind. The corners of her mouth curved up, adding to the menacing glint in her eyes.
She looked like a well-achieved queen looking down at her friend.
'I am sorry, Sky. You made your choice.'
Taking a good look at the opened door, her one chance at freedom, Raven steeled her resolve with both small fists clenched at her side.
'This is it.'
Instinctively turning her head to the side, her gaze landed on a petrified Layla who remained on her feet with her tails standing on end.
"Let's go, Layla."
'No.' The nine-tailed fox echoed in her mind and shook her head at Raven. ' I can't. He would kill me.'
"Layla come on. We can't lose this opportunity," Raven said, convincingly.
To her dismay, Layla refused to take one step forward. Having her pet fox behave this way was the last thing on Raven's mind now.
She was sure that with Sky's attack against the barrier, it would be only a few minutes before Xavier arrived to check what had happened.
Not only that, considering the attack used wasn't a fatal one, Sky was only out. Who knew when she was going to come around?
Not wanting to take any chances with that, she pleaded with Layla once more with a pitiable expression.
"Layla, please. This isn't the time for this. We've been here and we barely have a clue about what he wants to do to us. Come on, please, girl."
'I can't. You are my saviour, Raven but he is also my saviour. Without him, I would not be here. I cannot leave. Besides, when he catches you, it would be hell for you and me.' Layla remained adamant.
Raven huffed a sigh and took a step towards her. Instead of taking the assumed step, Layla took another back.
"Umm…"
Having Sky stir to the side where she lay on the ground, Raven's heart skipped a beat.
She felt her breath leave her as her chest rose and remained still. But when she did not move afterwards, she released the breaths she was holding in.
"Damn it," she cursed through gritted teeth and pulled her gaze back to Layla.
"Then I am leaving. So many lives are at stake here. I cannot sit by and watch another war happen because of me. I need to leave. Come if you must."
She did not look back and dashed off.
Here was her one chance at freedom. Should she escape she was going to come for Layla but at the moment, she could not afford a drag or fight that would stir Sky up.
As soon as she stepped out into the hallway, she whipped her head to the side and briskly walked in that direction.
By the time she came to an opening, she ducked her head out first, moving it from left to right, scanning to see if the passage was safe to move.
Once she had ascertained it was clear, she waited no more and took to her heels.

An Hour Later
"You have a single and simple order," Sky began with menacing cold eyes. I do not care what it takes. Find her." Came her unquestionable order.
"Who?" One of the men standing before Sky questioned.
"One target. Lord Zephyr's daughter, Raven Drake."
Immediately, everyone exchanged puzzled glances at one another before bringing their attention to Sky and Zeno.
"As you may have heard. Lord Zephyr's daughter is within these palace walls, under the command of his majesty, King Xavier. No questions asked. She must not escape from this palace or we have ourselves to blame," Zeno strictly informed them, making sure they understood how grave the situation was.
"Yes, Lord Zeno."
"Find her before His Majesty finds out for himself. Please."
At the last word, Sky's eyes shimmered with tears as a shuddering thought crawled up her senses. It was already given that should she fail in finding Raven, she was going to get the worst punishment from Xavier.
To make matters worse, it was a responsibility attached to her. And since she wouldn't carry on the responsibility, she could only plead.
"Surely, Lady Sky," Dristan enunciated.
"You heard her, begin the search, share yourselves to different areas of the palace and start a thorough search," Xanthos resonated after them.
Instantly, the heavy sound of boots and shoes echoing against the palace grounds reverberated along the palace corridors while men and women raced about, following a given order and pristine pattern.
She hated doing this and knew she would still be punished notwithstanding by Xavier. Nevertheless, she knew the most important task was this.
Should she lose Raven and also cause this uproar, then her doom was sure.
She sure has hell and should kiss her title and boast out the window. "Raven," Sky breathed out. "Show yourself," she let out thoughtfully.
*Flashback*
Sky stirred on the ground and let out a soft murmur. A few seconds passed and all she did was remain there until she felt eyes pore at her.
Like fire set in a rice field, her eyes flew open instantly as her gaze darted about, trying to figure out what went wrong.
'Seriously?' Layla wondered in her mind but all that came out was a purr. To Sky's magnificent hearing was a soft purr.
Swiftly, Sky rose to her feet and glanced around for Raven but all she found was a lonely-looking Layla by the corner, staring right back at her.
"She left huh? That conniving...!" Her teeth ground sharply to the unsteady sound of her heartbeat.
The heavy thudding in her chest spoke volumes as more of the situation she was in finally dawned on her.
"What do I say to King Xavier? And who knows how long I've been kissing the ground?"
'Oh, I'll tell you.' Layla teased her inwardly.
"I have to find her, now."
*Flashback Ends*
"Search for her. Do not just stand there, find her!" Sky ordered out loud.
