The old woman let out a chuckle before responding. 'The use of force is unfortunate, but sometimes necessary.' She paused, then added, 'Greetings, Jack River.'

'Jarvis?' Jack asked, shell-shocked.

'Sometimes,' agreed the old woman almost regretfully. 'I prefer being Jenny Goldman, lately arrived in Manhattan as deputy head chef of Vegas Kitchen.' She brightened. 'You know, my egg rolls are the finest in Midtown.'

Jack just stared at her dumbly.

'But what am I thinking?' the old woman went on. 'You've had a terrible ordeal. You need a strong cup of java. I know someplace we can go.'

The old woman headed back to the street down the alleyway, still clutching the frying pan.

Jack watched her go, his spirit shaken. This daffy old lady was Jarvis, the fabled medicine man who was actually a woman and the scourge of wolves across the USA. It was a blistering anti-climax.
