Mila stepped into the bus and showed the driver the ticket she had purchased. He scanned her ticket and welcomed her aboard the bus before an attendant showed Mila to her seat.

The bus pulled away from the bus stop. Mila saw the pack border patrol stop to inspect something. She sat in her designated seat.

The scenery of trees and fields passed swiftly. Mila had taken painkillers before the bus arrived, anticipating the pain of separating from the pack. She put on the sleep mask with frozen gel inserts and ear plugs.

The pain was worse than when she first left Red Fang. She could feel her bond with the pack break en masse. It was excruciating.

She sucked in a breath and gritted her teeth as she leaned against the window. A flash of rage appeared on the pack link, then silence.
