Capítulo 20: Depending on performance

Andrew began to feel uneasy as they approached Angelina's apartment. He didn't want to drive her home after infuriating her.

Finally, the car came to a halt at its destination. Angelina was in the car when she noticed his nervous expression. She couldn't figure out why he was so nervous about making her angry. 'Did he think that I would back out of the investment?' She shook her head as she presumed his thought process.

She exited the car without saying anything. Andrew regained consciousness when he heard the sound of the car door opening. He immediately got out of the car and approached Angelina, standing in front of her.

"What made you appear in front of me so suddenly? It frightens the hell out of me." She said this while resting her hand on her chest.

Andrew stood there silently in front of her. He had no idea how to approach her.

"If you don't have anything to say. Then I'm going." Angelina walked right by him.

Angelina moved her feet. She was about to scrabble away when...

"I'd like to tell you something."

The man's voice rang behind her after only a few steps. The man strode swiftly towards her.

"I Like you." He said this while looking her in the eyes.

His unexpected confession surprised Angelina. She froze like a stone statue as she stared blankly at the man who had confessed to her. She hadn't been brought to her senses in a long time.

The man stared at her, his eyes filled with her reflection.

As he studied her face, Andrew's eyes flickered with emotion.

"Goodnight," he said a split second later, straightening his back. "Prepare to be courted." He then walked away from her, leaving her speechless.

Angelina stood rooted to the ground, looking at his residing figure. A cold wind blew, bringing her back to reality. She felt as if she were walking through a dream.

'Who makes a confession in such a stupid way?' she thought to herself after clearing her mind. 'He did not seek my permission.'

The night came to an end with the first rays of sunlight. Morning is the time when we feel the most refreshed and active. We'll be bursting with energy.

Someone's energy appears to have been depleted with the passing of the night. Angelina sat motionless in her office. Her mind kept replaying last night's confession scene.

She needs to force herself to return her focus to her work.

Lucy entered the room by pushing open the door. "I've been knocking on the door for quite some time. However, I did not hear your response." Lucy stated, while looking at her boss,

"You appear to be exhausted. What happened last night?" Her lips were set in an amused smile.

Angelina noticed that her assistant knew what had happened the night before. "You were aware of what he was up to."

Lucy shrugged and gave her a look. "It's not my fault you were so clueless around him. You were to blame for failing to notice his feelings for you."

"You think I'm a fool." Angelina continued by folding her hand in front of her. "I'm sure he liked me. I didn't expect him to confess to me. After all, I am quite attractive, so it is not surprising that I have some admirers."

Lucy's mouth twitched as she observed her self-appraisal behavior. ""Can you be a little serious about his confession? Have you considered how you will respond to his proposal?"

Angelina was irritated because Andrew literally ran away after confessing his feelings for her.

"I do not consider such a cowardly person, who did not even have the courage to face rejection." Angelin stated irritably.

Lucy found her contradictory words amusing. She could tell Angelina was not opposed to Andrew's confession.

"Boss, you need to think twice. It was extremely difficult for you to find someone who matched your exact preferences. He is attractive and less wealthy than you, and you can make him fall in love with you with the snap of your finger."

Angelina was very tempted after considering all of the factors. Yes, she had a set of rules for an ideal partner for herself because she didn't believe anyone would be willing to be with her without any ulterior motive.

She has already experienced a fair share of human greed. People call her greedy for money, but at least she expressed it rather than hiding it behind a mask.

"Whether or not I accept him is dependent on his performance." She looked at her and said, "And you came to my cabin to gossip about my private life? If you have so much time on your hand. I can delegate some of my work to you."

Lucy knew it was time to stop dwelling on her personal matters. Otherwise, her personal life will inevitably turn into chaos.

"I came to inform you that Mr. Austin's 60th birthday banquet will be held next week. We can't avoid him because he's an important business partner."

Angelina was not a fan of going to such boring parties where everyone laughed at each other's faces but then started bad mouthing each other after turning their backs.

"When do we need to be there for the event?" Angelina inquired.

"It will take place next Saturday. You can bring a partner to that banquet," Lucy said after a brief pause.

Angelina cast her a cold glance. Lucy sprints out of the office, sensing that her boss is about to burst. "I have a lot of work to do."

Grayson became dizzy as he noticed Andrew walking back and forth in the room. "Can't you find a seat?"

Andrew sat beside him and gave him a serious look. "What should I do now?" he asked, holding his hands together. " I've told her about my feelings, but what if she rejects me? What am I going to do?"

Grayson yanked his hand away from his grasp. He couldn't figure out why he was acting this way. He was attractive and at the pinnacle of his career. Many girls wanted to marry him. Grayson observed Andrew's stress and concluded that love causes people to doubt themselves.

"It's pointless to listen to your advice. You didn't even take Lucy out on a date." Andrew launches a personal attack.

Grayson, who had been attacked for no apparent reason, looked at him with exasperation. "You are simply unreasonable. I am better compared to you. I did not run away after confessing my feelings." Grayson cut Andrew off before he could respond, "Instead of arguing with me for these childish things. Go confront Angelina. If you wait a little longer, someone else will take advantage of the situation."
