Rowan raced towards the mouth of the cave, his boots hitting the floor, the sound echoing after him, as he ran for life. He looked over his shoulders, catching a glimpse of the burden of darkness that was rushing madly behind him in a hot chase.

The unsettled spirits he had been fighting had now merged themselves into one big even ball of darkness, their dark form emerging at different angles of the creature they had formed as they chased him. 

The sounds they made were unnatural, their snarls, and the absence of shadow they had. 

They were the Damned.

The shadows themselves and they were hungry for souls to devour, to possess, to destroy.

Right now, Rowan was their prey. 

They matched his speed and he focused on being faster.
