Chapter 5 Village of Xir
(Have not been proofread)
…
The mist is actually not that dangerous. It only corrodes some kind of energy in your body making you unable to exert any kind of semblance of power or energy. When you are engulfed by the mist, there are two things that I would always want to do… one is to sleep, and the other is to remove anything that encumbers your body.
That's it… after you do that; you will have no energy to do anything until the mist disappears.
However, the problem is not the mist itself but what is in the mist or what comes after it.
Some kind of weird creature lurks within the mist. And there are also some creatures that follow where it goes. Those creatures would always be the cause of my demise. Though I might not die for real, the pain of dying helplessly is something I don't want to experience again.
And so, without hesitation, I ran as fast as I could.
Arrgghh!!! Nooo!!!
Helllppp! Don't! Don't! Arrgghh!!!
The cries of those soldiers behind us echoed in the forest, but I dare not turn around to see.
The young woman who was struggling a while ago when I picked her up is now clinging strongly to me after hearing those wailing sounds behind us.
While running, my strange sight is darting everywhere and when I find what I am looking for, I would pick it up as fast as I could.
Soon, after gathering the things I needed, I followed my instinct and quickly mixed the things I picked with my right hand.
After that, I did not hesitate to put the mixture in her wound which startled the young woman.
Arrgghh!!!
She suddenly cried in pain as her grip on my neck strengthened.
"It's okay… This will help your wound fight off the bacteria and also staunch the bleeding." I explained so that she would not misunderstand.
But I could already see her glaring at me.
However, after a few seconds, her eyes suddenly close.
I knew that she fainted because of fatigue. I might not know medicine, but first aid treatment and survival are something that seems to be engraved in my bones.
…
It seems that I have been running for a while now as I noticed the sound of flowing water not too far from our location.
Without hesitation, I quickly run towards that location.
After checking the place up, I could not find any creature of threat in the vicinity so I found a place to put her down and get some water from the river.
While traveling, I have actually died a few times because of river water.
Some because of the creatures living in it, others because of the strange plants growing near the river.
They produce some kind of toxins that kills any creature coming towards them.
So far, I could not see those kinds of plants, so just to make sure; I decided to drink the water first.
The taste of the water is a bit sweet so I could not help but take more mouthfuls.
I waited for a few minutes and nothing happened. I quickly take more water using my animal skin flask.
I then began preparing the fire and a makeshift pot using one of the animal skins I carried.
After boiling the water, I put it aside to cool it.
After checking the wound of the young woman, I decided to find a giant tree where we can hide for the night.
…
Ugh…
A slightly moaning sound woke me from my stupor as I turn my attention to the side.
It seems that she has already woken up.
As I walk closer, the young woman's figure suddenly moved her hand but she stopped as she patted her side in confusion.
"How are you feeling?" I casually asked not wanting to make her feel afraid.
"You… What… What have you done to me?" she asked as anger flashed before her eyes.
"Done to you? I… I think I helped you sure your wounds…" I replied in confusion.
She frowned and checked her body.
Finding that nothing is amiss except for the bandage on her arms and hands, she relaxed her vigilance.
She suddenly turns her gaze to her stomach.
Seeing the dry blood and the wound made her frown.
"I did not wrap your wound in there… I know my limits… You're still a woman after all…" I explained.
She did not show any reaction and just looks at me with her scrutinizing eyes.
"You don't sound like your age…" she suddenly broke the silence.
"My age?" I suddenly thought.
"I… I don't even know my name… How much more is my age…" I added feeling a bit hesitant.
"What? You don't know your own name?" she asked with a hint of suspicion in her eyes.
"Yes… I… I woke up without a memory." I said as my eyes trail to the ground.
"Hmm… Maybe you are from Xir village which is near here." She suddenly said.
"Xir village? You mean there is a village near this place?" I suddenly asked feeling a bit excited.
"Uhuh…" she suddenly pointed outside towards the opposite side of the river.
"It is either in that direction or that…" she said while feeling a bit unsure.
"I just smelled a familiar scent of flowers growing within this area, so I know this place… But I need to go out to make sure of the direction…" she explained.
"Don't worry… We can go out tomorrow…" I assured her.
An awkward silence once again came between us which made me feel a bit uncomfortable.
But then she broke the silence between us as she heaves a sigh.
"I'm Yan Xhiling…" she said.
Hearing her words, I suddenly wanted to ask that thing that I am curious about.
"Are… are you a soldier?"
She did not say anything but just frown deeply. After thinking for a while, she seems to have made a decision.
"I am… But I am not the kind of soldier that you are thinking of. I cannot say anything besides that." She then turns around and lies on the makeshift bed.
…
That night, I did not sleep. I just stand on guard on a tree branch while spreading my eyes around.
Meanwhile, in my subconscious mind, I could now see the strange writing.
I accidentally learned how to see this strange writing a few days back.
At that time, I suddenly focused on something, and in my subconscious mind appear some kind of information data.
I think it's talking about me.
What caught my attention are the words that say, bound soul… primary immortal.
I could understand the other stuff in there, but that bound soul… primarily immortal is something that eludes my mind… but raises my imagination to a new level.
When it said primary immortal, does that mean there is middle-level and advanced too?
Well, who knows…?
Anyway, after checking the strange writing, I have learned that it is showing the current status of my body through those strange writings.
Host:?
Age: approximately 10 years old (according to bone density)
Strength: 500 kg
Reflex: 200 kph
Speed: 100 kph
Ether: 2
Status: Bound Soul… Primary Immortal
Abilities: Heightened senses (intermediate), Enhanced muscles (primary), Exoskeleton (primary), Blood Manipulation (primary), Spirit Eyes (50 meters)
As I learned of my so-called status, I was a bit flabbergasted upon learning that I truly have no idea who I am. But at least, I could now determine that I am 10 years old.
My curiosity began to be piqued by something else though.
The reason for this is that, though my age says I am ten, I have some kind of memory fragments that shows I am not that young.
In fact, some of those memory fragments suggest that I am much older. But I am not also sure as those are incomplete scenes in my mind.
As I rested my back on the tree trunk I carefully feel my surroundings and checked for any danger.
Suddenly, I noticed something strange that is floating around me.
I have traveled the forest in tenterhooks all the time and have no time to observe my surroundings calmly. Now that I have, I noticed those strange colorful things floating around me.
There are 5 different colors… red, blue, green, yellow, and brown.
I observe those things floating around me and then they would land on any surface and be absorbed. Even my body would absorb them, but I feel nothing.
I felt a bit strange, but then since it is happening normally, I did not bother with it any further.
…
The next day…
Yan Xhiling woke up with a bit of a headache. But for some reason, she felt her body feeling a bit energized. The pain she was feeling last night is now gone and her wound seems to have not flared up.
As she opened her eyes, she feels a bit confused at first but upon registering and remembering what happened last night, her expression relaxes.
She carefully touches the wound on her stomach and felt something rough on it.
She carefully lifted her body up and looks at her wound.
To her astonishment, she could see scabs already forming on the wound.
She was flabbergasted as she knew how deep her wound was.
"Is this the result of the medicine that the young boy used?" she thought.
She carefully tried to make some movements and felt a little stiff but everything was still fine.
She looks around but saw no one so she stood up from the makeshift bed and walked out of the shelter she was in.
As soon as she peered out of the opening, her figure suddenly froze upon seeing the unbelievable sight before her.
