Chapter 32: End of the Battle

Thanks to his swordsman's reflexes, William curved his back enough to avoid the slashing attack. Even so, several drops of blood flew out when he failed to dodge completely.

In his eye, there was a not-too-deep cut. Luckily, the human body is specially made to avoid hitting the very fragile eyes. Madam Sharon had only managed to leave an ascending wound that ran from cheekbone to eyebrow.

Of course, the female Beyonder did not desist in attacking him, and she followed up with a stab. William's eyes narrowed as if they belonged to a beast, not a person, as he stood with his back still curved.

Using his instincts, he dropped back to the ground. At the last moment, he braced himself on his hands, pushing himself off as he threw both legs toward Sharon's face.

The Demoness Sect member had not expected this move. She tried to cover herself with a thick layer of ice, but William's punches could bend iron, it was the same with kicks.

Bang.

Madam Sharon went flying about thirty feet and she felt her head spin. Luckily for her, the ice was hardened by some supernatural element and minimized the damage.

'It's okay.' The woman smiled as she saw how some traces of ice had been stuck in William's legs.

Wrath's effects began to wear off, and William's mind returned to clarity.

"Darling, if you use me we can match her." Debris's voice went straight to her head, but it was more frustrating than anything.

'I know, but you are truly the only secret I don't want to reveal.' He remained alert, ready to act the moment Sharon made a move. 'He will not come near again, we have lost that opportunity. Defeating her now will be difficult even with you, and the others are coming. I don't want to risk them watching me fight with an invisible sword.'

"But... without a sword, you won't have enough power to reach her." There was genuine concern in Debris's voice.

'Don't worry, I'll concentrate on buying time. Don't forget that was our initial goal.' William reassured her. He had forgotten this point when he had activated Wrath, but now the purpose of the ability had been served, so he deactivated it.

Madam Sharon was not at her best, she held her head as her vision blurred slightly.

John Maynard had come upstairs at some point in the conflict, and neither Beyonder knew what he was doing. As a member of high-class society, Maynard most likely had some knowledge regarding the Beyonder world, but he had probably never seen anything like this up close.

Madam Sharon raised a hand, and the ice on William's leg began to expand, slowly but surely, as a myriad of threads tried to wrap him like a fly in a spider's web. William didn't want any of that, so he slammed the ground with all his might, cracking it apart.

The opposing force he received was enough to destroy the ice forming, and with this, he could easily escape from the approaching threads. He tried to go directly to Sharon, but more strings got in his way.

He easily dodged them by moving backward. Then, he saw the remains of his sword on the ground and decided that they would be useful. He grabbed the piece, though it wouldn't do to fight properly because he could easily cut himself.

But he didn't want him to fight hand-to-hand. With an extremely quick movement, he threw the metal blade with all his might at Madam Sharon's head.

It would have been difficult for her to raise an ice barrier so quickly, so he had no choice but to dodge it, pulling her body with some strings that were attached to it. That would have been a great dodge if it weren't for the fact that her head was damaged from the blow she had received.

She staggered and fell to one knee as she clutched her head.

"This is my opportunity!" William wasted no time moving as fast as he could. He did not lose sight of the thread that was approaching him, trying to stop him. 'It won't work twice.'

He sped up more so as not to give the thread enough time to catch up with him.

Thud.

"Wh-what?" William looked at his chest.

An ice stake had come out of the ground, due to his speed he hadn't seen it in time. He spat out blood as he ripped the stake out of his chest.

"Hm, did you think I had already shown it all?" Madam Sharon staggered to her feet. "I'm not stupid, from the first moment I noticed that you were quite powerful, so I had to act to take you by surprise. You fought quite well, however, I did not expect that kick to be so powerful."

William took two steps back, trying to cover the wound so that too much blood would not come out. His stamina as a Sequence 8 Beyonder was far superior to that of an ordinary person, so he was able to stay conscious, but that was it.

"Darling!" Debris cried out, worried about his condition. "You must resist, I can feel them, they are already here!" Sure enough, the door opened, and a good part of the Tingen Nighthawks entered.

"Huh?" Madam Sharon looked at them, stunned. "How did the Nighthawks find us so quickly?"

She then looked at William.

"I see, he probably communicated it to them somehow, he must be a Nighthawk as well."

"Kenley, take William and take him to Old Neil, he can do something." Dunn Smith gave the orders loud and firm, and Kenley White followed suit.

"Come on William." He put it on his back and went out. Sharon ignored them because she didn't have the luxury of being distracted by so many Beyonders against her.

"Damn, you're heavy." Kenley groaned as he carried the wounded man. "You can relax now, you won't die from this, you're lucky we made it just in time."

William said nothing as his consciousness faded. He would not forget this defeat.

As they say, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
