Capítulo 330: 336: A Plague of Phantoms: A Reason to Reflect I

Chase

'Almost….almost…just a little more mana…' I thought as I reorganized the last few sequences of Bahamut's revised genetic structure.

I knew hours had passed since I started this endeavor with Bo, Alberto, Jane and Astrid along with all my evos. However I wasn't sure how much time had passed. Since I had some experience revising and editing defective and redundant genetic sequences thanks to Alpa'nagia, Grimm-Guard, Bellial and Mzazzi, it was going by a lot faster than it did with them.

As I rewrote the last few lines of his sequence I felt an enormous presence suddenly emerge inside my mind. I opened my eyes and found myself floating deep underwater where not even the brightest of sunlight can reach. If it wasn't for me channeling shine attribute mana I wouldn't have realized I wasn't alone either. Bo and Alberto floated next to me, both confused and panicking slightly.

"What happened to the subject?" Bo asked, his head perking from side to side to look for any sign of the evo but there was nothing around us or rather there wasn't enough light for us to see anything around us.

"Fuck if I know!" I exclaimed.

"We're inside your farm crystal! I feel like you should know!" Alberto snapped. I frowned and slapped him on the back of the head.

"Are you aware of everything that goes on in your body?" I asked which earned me a eye roll from Alberto.

"This is a little different. Since it's your mental landscape…kinda…I think." Alberto retorted.

<Sub…ject?> A voice whispered. It was soft but carried surprisingly well underwater.

I shared a look with the others, I didn't feel any hostility coming from the voice or sense any bloodlust so I was relatively relaxed. Bo suddenly stiffened while staring directly at me or rather behind me. Alberto noticed Bo's reaction and turned to look in the same direction. He froze and his expression turned grim. Now feeling a little concerned I turned around and saw what had freaked the two out.

There was a light glowing faintly in the distance. It was obviously some sort of bioluminescence or mana channeling. Though I was more included to believe the latter.

<Subject…fracture…mind…> The voice whispered again, louder this time. I noticed that the light flickered each time the voice spoke.

"That has to be Bahamut. His mind is trying to recover its lost memories." I told the others. Bo and Alberto both looked at me and frowned.

"Why are you so calm? Do you not feel that right now?" Alberto asked.

"Feel what?" I asked, genuinely confused. Bo shook his head, not taking his eyes off the glowing figure in the distance.

"Of course he can't feel it. With his natural mana capacity plus the amount of mana that flows through him regularly thanks to his evos this amount of mana probably doesn't fully register." Bo exclaimed.

"How! This pressure is like double any of his other evos!" Alberto exclaimed.

"Not combined, it's not!" Bo snapped.

<Evos…Bahamut…Who am…wait…> The voice muttered loudly. I frowned at that remark when I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my hand, in my farm crystal.

<Evo…I am evo! I am…evo!> The voice said

The glowing figure in the distance started moving closer, .moving faster and faster. As the glowing figure got closer it also got bigger and the water around us got brighter from the ambient light. The true size of the figure became apparent at this point, as it was still coming and seemed to be the size of a mountain and still growing.

"Chaaaaaaaase!" Bo whined.

"Bahamut!" I yelled as I released a wave of mana into the surrounding water. Bahamut stopped about six hundred feet away from us and I had my first look at the new and improved Bahamut.

I modeled his look based off of dragons from European lore and mythology. It had the typical dragon body with small aquatic touches. He had small fin on the backs of his hind legs, his tail had the signature liger shark tail fin, and instead of a reptilian head it had the head of the liger shark. His entire body was covered in black crystalline scales. Horns made from the same crystal sprouted from his forehead and curved around the side of its head and resting just below it's jaw. Two ginormous wings sprouted from it's back only there was no webbing between the joints, giving it a skeletal wing look.

"IT'S FUCKING ENORMUS!" Bo screamed as he hid behind me.

"CHASE WHY THE FUCK IS IT SO HUGE!?" Alberto screamed.

"You guys read the lysdale script! Why are you surprised?" I griped.

Bahamut had no eyes but regardless I could feel him staring at me. Probably his electromagnetic vision focusing in on me specifically. Bahamut inclined his head down towards me and I could see the gills on the side of his neck puff out with each breath he took.

<Lord…Boss…Pretender…Savior…> Bahamut muttered, repeating several of the moniker my other evos used for me. He shook his head, baring his fangs and showing multiple rows of teeth. <No, neither. Architect…diviner…sculptor…titles befitting thou.>

'He's starting to gain a personality…it's more formal than I thought it would be.' I thought.

"The way you spoke earlier…do you have memories of before?" I asked. Bahamut shook his head then looked upwards.

<I have flashes. Fleeting visions of a world of nightmares.> Bahamut replied then tilted his head own towards me. <I know mine place and memories of a useless past serves no one. Certainly not thou. So I humbly ask to take mine place at your side, my master.>

"I see…then…" I froze as I felt a unpleasant sensation, like a rope snapping in the back of my mind.

I instantly knew what that sensation was. The tattoo that I had placed on Chad that tracked his movements was dispelled, however the only way to do that was that Chad was dead. I gritted my teeth then looked to Alberto and Bo.

"We have to go! Now!" I barked at the duo. They both looked confused until I forcibly pulled everyone out of Bahamut's biome and the others out of my farm crystal's crossroads.

***

"OW! FUCK! MY HEAD!" Alberto yelled as he rolled on the ground, clutching his head. Bo, Astrid, Damon and Iris all rolled on the ground in a similar way to Alberto. It was the effect of being forcibly ejected from my farm crystal with no warning.

"Pull yourselves together everyone! Chad's dead!" I barked and jumped to my feet. Madilyn sat on a stool not too far from us and looked alarmed at the sudden screaming and groaning everyone was making.

"Chad? How do you know?" Madilyn asked.

"Mystical Magical Bullshit!" I exclaimed then focused on my manacite communication ring and on Sin's ring.

<SIN! Chad is dead! Where the hell is he?> I exclaimed.

<Wait what?!> Sin replied, his confusion obvious.

<CHAD! LOCATION! WHERE?!> I yelled through the ring.

<The Briar Lieon containment cage! Fuck! Nate is with him now!> Sin replied. I felt a cold chill run up my spine as I looked up at the navigation column.

"King's Glaive, set location to the Sadamas center! Full speed! Remove all safety locks!" I ordered.

"Destination received. Traveling to Sadamas center at full speed allowed, safety measures deactivated." King's Glaive responded.

I felt a sudden jerk as the King's Glaive started to move. Picking up speed much more rapidly than normal thanks to the safety restraints being removed. Looking at the navigation column I could see that it was changing its elevation to fly several feet above the tree line in order to cut the distance between us and Sadamas center.

"Chase, what do you mean Chad is dead?" Iris asked. She was getting up off the ground and still holding her the side of her head with one hand.

"The tracking tattoo that I put on him is gone. It would only do that if he dies. Even if the part of the body that the tattoo is on is cut off the tattoo would just reappear on another part of his body. He has to be dead." I explained.

Iris expression turned serious and her hand instinctively reaching for her daggers and manacite revolver. I could see her mind already running through a bunch of different scenarios.

"Sin said Nate is supposed to be with him now." I added in a lower tone, so Bo wouldn't hear which made her stiffen.

"How do you want to handle this?" Iris asked, her voice dropping to a icy cold crackle.

"I WANT THE FUCKERS HEADS ON A PIKE!" I growled. Iris nodded, then turned on her heel and walked over to the control car's door and waited with a eerie calm.

<Boss, I'm almost to the containment cage. Pogs, Rubis, Cobalti, and Twilight is with me. Haws and Jane are watching Jade! I've tried reaching Nate on the ring but I can't reach him! I'll keep you posted!> Sin informed me.

"Estimated time of arrival: six minutes!" King's Glaive announced.

<Be there in six!> I replied.

I Looked back over to Alberto, Damon, and Astrid, all of who were standing and had serious looks on their faces. Bo was standing with crossed arms and a look on his face that was supposed to be intimidating, which would have worked if he wasn't ten and had Gadget on his shoulder. I felt my anger grow when I saw Bo and knew that his father could be in danger and he didn't know.

Splicer Fact: Women are more important to sustaining a noble splicing family's status than men. Since the splicing gene is a dominant gene in women and a recessive gene in men it's much easier for a woman to pass a high mana capacity to their child than it is for a man. There have been several documented cases of splicers being born to women with no splicer ancestors and men with multiple splicing ancestors. Those children are typically weaker than your average splicer but have a deeper connection to evos.
