"The celestials and titans are growing restless!" Fenrir stated. He was in his wolf form, laying on the floor next to Loki. And right he was.
Ragthor and the rebelling Nords had nothing to do as of the moment. There was nothing they could help with, as the wall took care of everything. This left them to their own devise. Some played different kinds of games with one another, others focused on their religions and worshipers. Others lost themselves in liquor drinking away their trauma.
They were waiting to return home, something only possible when the fussing process finished. Only Ragthor had a place to return to and the soldiers were battle-hardened. Their very existence raised for war. They did not wish for the battle to finish yet, they had waited for millions of years just to participate in the battle; but Ragnar cared little for their thoughts.
Efficient, cruel and indifferent to life; such words could describe Ragnar. 'Life is a renewable resource' was one of many ideals he had come to follow, under the millions of years spent coursing through time itself.
'Emotions are needless, and only harm a warrior's capabilities to perform their task!' he had come to understand. Even if they wanted a drawn out war, where they could shed their wings and bathe in eternal glory, Ragnar did not have time for such pleasures.
Even if he didn't know everything about the seventh dimension, and saw but glimpses caught in the many echos spread through the rivers of time. He was was still sure of one thing: war awaited him. He was hated by the Sun Dinosaurs and would soon enter an ancient war, older than any celestial could comprehend.
"I know of their worry commander Fenrir. If you wish to put an end to it, be my guest. But needless deaths of my people will not be tolerated! There's no need for them to go beyond the wall at this point. Their only purpose was to conquer Svartalfheim, while the others distract Norse Mythology on other fronts!" he answered at last, pointing towards the gigantic dome surrounding them.
Before Fenrir could answer, Ragnar sighed, as he sensed Odin and his people again. Once again they came to attack the wall. So, wordlessly Ragnar unsheathed his Katana-like blade and left to fight of the invaders of their own homeland.
Fenrir frowned and followed, together with Loki, Jörmungandr and Surtr. Each one was to deal with the inconsistencies that visited today.
"Idun, it's a pleasure seeing you again. Ready for a part two, I take it?" Ragnar asked, his arrogance reaching the enemy.
"So it seems, are you going to false ascend, get the ire of the All knowing and leave five seconds later?" she mocked. Last fight she accidentally turned back time on Ragnar, a mistake she wouldn't repeat. Ragnar knew this and sighed.
Unlike last time, he couldn't really throw her into his realm, not that it seemed to do anything to begin with. He'd just have to do with his base strength outside his home.
Before they could start fighting, Odin stepped forward.
"This will be a two on one, bastard. Just like you teamed up on me, with that blue thing!" he proclaimed with no shame.
"So be it!" Ragnar said. When he saw the two of them, he already knew it was a possibility. He groaned and pointed his blade at Odin.
'Hey Existence me, want to fight Odin, while I take care of Idun?' Ragnar thought. This would be a test, one that had been pushed to this date.
'Sure' he answered and just like that a water version of Ragnar formed next to him. It was made out of water, not Nightwater. Something that surprised Ragnar slightly. But he got over it quickly.
Ragnar ignored the water version of himself and attack Idun.
The black blade cut the realm, creating an eerie energy that spread through the realm, killing some celestials close to it. Bathing in the ocean of material, the blade greedily divided everything in its path, till it reached Idun.
As the sharpened edge of the blade reached Idun, a clear, liquid-like mirage appeared in front of her, defending her for a moment. But the blade refused to be stopped and only needed Ragnar to exert more strength to break through.
Their short exchange echoed throughout the realm, as celestials were forced to flee the scene. Nevertheless, like always, Ragnar cared little for the enemy's lives. He wasn't trying to destroy their souls with their exchanges, so they'd live again.
Idun morphed out of existence, as their fight reached another place. The blade cut through the mirage and her escape path, opening a gate to the foreign world.
Ragnar knew Idun would be stronger in the new world, but he followed her nonetheless. Simply because he knew he's also be stronger.
Finally the sword swipe came to an end, as Ragnar failed to cut Idun with his first attack. He was specialized in fighting only one person, so he was happy about not facing three or four bastards at the same time.
Finishing his motion, he started a new one using the old force. Four images of the blade appeared simultaneously, as he slashed at Idun. The four slashes each brought with it an unstoppable force, unrelenting on the sword itself. They left a path of destruction behind in their wake, as they slammed into Idun. Yet she was uninjured.
"Your blade cuts everything, but even that has weaknesses. Here, existence is naught. Meaning I was never there, you can cut time, but not me, when that is unrelated to me." she said, teaching Ragnar of his own flaws. Beings tended to do so to quench each other's curiosity. And it usually never changed the outcome of the fight.
The world was empty of everything, there was no distance, or sense of self, only time. To exist in this place was but a dream, there is only time. There's a reason why time is the only concept that can interact with the two others, because its an empty medium that makes things move.
Ragnar was but one being in time itself. He wasn't in some made up realm that Idun threw together. He was in time itself, similar to the rivers of time, but different.
Ragnar felt a string race against his presence in time. It attacked him, trying to remove him forcefully. So he fought back, even managing to push the thing back and trace it to its origins. He found Idun once more, not a spectrum, but her very place in time. An immovable object. As long as he could reach her, he could cut her.
So that's what Ragnar did, he sought to reach her and end her charade, bringing her back to the realms of Norse Mythology.
His sword struck true against her, but was somehow blocked. Then he was thrown back, suffering a severe headache. His presence in time dimmed for a second, but returned with an explosion seconds later.
"Are you crazy, you're going to have to find another solution, buddy. This is beyond you, what you tried to cut was a tendril of the 'Time'!" she said. She sounded scared, almost like she feared retaliation by time. But what happened next was to neither's expectation.
They felt a presence, more overbearing than them appear and disappear again. With it, a wave of power swept over them and they were thrown away.
Reemerging with existence was a weird feeling, he felt it grow into him, almost like it was a new entity. The worst part, he had no idea where he was and he was disconnected from the rivers of time. Next to him was Idun, she looked frail and weak. Like someone had taken all her energy.
"Well, well, well, what do we have here?" something asked, and Ragnar jumped up.
They were in a wooden cabin, no celestial stuff. Overbearing, covered in gold and expenses, just a wooden cabin.
'What is he, where am I?' Ragnar thought, the feeling of weakness still weighing over him.
"You're in the between, I don't know how the frick you made it here, but congratulations on screwing yourself over!As for where you are, that's simple; in my house!" It answered Ragnar.
'Great another mind reader.' he thought.
"Great, another home intruder." the being answered.
"How do we get to our home?" Idun asked, making it turn to her.
"Well, I don't know, trace your steps or something not my problem!" he said and left the tow of them, laying on floor.
"Umm, excuse me, but could you help us?" Idun asked and ran after, Ragnar following her example. They reached the door to the outside and threw it open, revealing absolutely nothing.
Nothing, not even darkness, there were no realms no other beings. "What is this place?" Idun asked.
"The Between, don't you ever listen young lady?" they heard from their left, turning they saw nothing.
"You wonder if I can help you, but the real question is, can you help yourself?" it asked, this time from their right.
"Nothing is a coincidence younglings. As I said trace your steps, I can't find your home, or help you, if you don't!" he told them.
"Why can't we see you?" Idun asked.
"It's not that you can't see me, you simple can't perceive me. I'm beyond your meager comprehension, now trace your steps so we can get this over with!" he said once more.
Ragnar did as told and slowly went down the memory lane, eventually he came to when he entered the rivers of time.
"You can stop now." the being told them. Idun looked relieved, while Ragnar frowned.
"Listen younglings, for what I'm about to tell you is very important. Ragnar, your freedom granted to you by the 6/6 story is very powerful indeed. But that freedom will be gone when you become seventh dimensional.
"I will give you two options! One, fulfill your true potential and become a traveler like me, or two, return to your Instance and lose that freedom. You can never return, or finish what you started if you chose to stay here." the being told Ragnar.
"I can't leave everything behind, and that's my home world! Or instance, whatever you call it." Ragnar answered.
the being's emotions could be felt all over the place, it felt like it was frowning.
"Very well, if that's how you see it, so be it!" he said.
"Why were we sent here?" Ragnar asked.
"Time and Sloth's clone thought it to be funny to ask you this, give you a choice. Call it a punishment for attacking Time itself, even if you accomplished nothing by such hearsay.
"Now, you return. Remember, you've had much freedom, traveling through eras and everything in your Instance. But when you become seventh dimensional, you will gain many things, but some will also be lost. You will forever be trapped in the seventh dimension. It is a prison, not a hotel!" the being told Ragnar.
A second later they were in the house again and the entity stood before them again.
"You've chosen the simple route, something I sometimes wish I did myself. But never forget, you sacrificed your potential for it. May you find happiness in the simplicity you've chosen!" he said and Ragnar lost consciousness again.
The next moment they were back at the realm. Ragnar's sword was about to slash Idun in two and would do so with no trouble, for she stood there motionless, staring into Ragnar's eyes. He too stopped his actions, to the displeasure of his sword, it did not get to cut her in two.
"What just happened to us?" she asked herself, knowing full well Ragnar didn't know the answer.
(An: Now with Ragnar choosing his path truly, he will no longer be free. What this means is that he won't randomly travel into time and meet powerful entities beyond anything he's seen. He chose his world for good.
(Next week I will publish two or more chapters and the week after that, maybe even more :) I plan to edit some early chapter too, due to the constant i instead of I problem up to chapter 90 or something. But yeah, stay tuned, write a review and have a great day, night and even week. Author out :) )
